Just wondering, if we self identify as TERFs then when we report a punch a terf comment for violence we can honestly say the violence is being threatened against ourselves. So you think that will get TRAs responded to more harshly?

This shadow banning is scary.

R0wantrees · 04/06/2018 19:24

This shadow banning is scary.

Isn't it?

As far as I can understand, you are not notified if your Twitter account is shadow banned.

People who follow you will still see your tweets, so they won't notice.

If someone who is not following a shadowbanned account & are searching for something, they won't know what they're not seeing.

Bowlofbabelfish · 04/06/2018 20:08

"All of this shadow banning will be handled by an algorithm,

So it’s likely to be illegal under GDPR.

I have always done this. Then you get a little box to write about what's happened to you and you can say, "sort out your misogyny problem, stop letting abusive males bully and silence and threaten women". You don't have to identify as a slur to know it's aimed at you.

MipMipMip · 04/06/2018 21:17

Ok, I am officially a terf. I believe male bodied people, no matter their gender orientation, should not be in female spaces. Technically I suppose that makes me a mterf as I don't object to female trans but that complicates the issue.

I will now take every post recommending violence against TERFs to be targeting me.

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 21:20

I bet the algorithm puts more weight on a personal complaint.

drspouse · 04/06/2018 21:29

mipmip maybe you are a MERF?

mipmip or a PERF (penis excluding)

I gave written this and will use it for any kill/punch/hurt TERF tweets. Feel free to adopt or edit!

TERF is a term used exclusively for women who know trans people are still the sex they are born and not the gender they identify with. They know that trans women continue to offend at a male rate and that as a group men are a danger to women. They believe sex segregation needs to continue to protect women.

I am a TERF and I feel threatened by this tweet.

PencilsInSpace · 04/06/2018 22:44

That's really useful MipMip, thank you. So far I have only reported people for targeting someone else or a group of people and I've never had a box I could write actual words. I shall start taking TERF more personally in future.

My edit:

TERF is a slur directed exclusively at women. Sex is a protected characteristic under the UK Equality Act 2010. TERF is used to incite violence and hatred towards women who seek to uphold their sex based rights under the law.

I have been called a TERF and I feel threatened by this tweet.

Any algorithm-based moderation is wide open to gaming.

There are positive things we can do too. If the algorithm is based on positive reactions to tweets then let's all make an extra effort to like, share and give positive responses to gender critical tweets, especially those from people who may be shadow banned and also those we don't (yet) follow.

Sounds good Pencils. I've been going on Twitter and reported until I got too depressed.

Good ideas for playing the algorithms.

The first of my reports has come back as not upheld. Sad

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 22:50

Yes this is exactly the kind of thing to write. And true!

MipMipMip · 04/06/2018 22:52

2 refused now. I'm not optimistic.

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 22:53

You know that's how transactivists will be doing it after all, reporting anyone who says "transwomen are men/male" as personally violent towards them.

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 22:54

That was quick! Mine take ages and I don't generally hear unless they are upheld. Perhaps I have different notification settings to you.

MipMipMip · 04/06/2018 22:59

One account locked until account holder complies. So someone is at least considering it.

Ereshkigal · 04/06/2018 23:04

Well done!

R0wantrees · 04/06/2018 23:06

I think its possible to see how Twitter's policy might work:
help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/hateful-conduct-policy

MipMipMip · 04/06/2018 23:12

Interesting, thanks R0wantrees.

MipMipMip · 04/06/2018 23:28

Another refused. Maybe it's making a Twitter auditor think at least.

R0wantrees · 05/06/2018 00:12

Do you think a human sees it? I have my doubts.

MipMipMip · 05/06/2018 00:31

Maybe. I can hope.

MipMipMip · 05/06/2018 17:33

Another one locked. Apparently I reported 29 so I think this could take a while. Hopefully the tide is turning....
