Well this should be interesting. According to Twitter, Linda Bellos will be on it. Anyone want to phone in?

'We should let them have every thing they want so that they will be happy. Lie down on the floor women!! '

That's pretty much what it comes down to. We must have all of the things all of the time because we say so. Women, stop bloody whingeing and get out of our way Hmm

AbsintheFriends · 23/05/2018 14:24

Juells - ha, spot on. An advert on a prime time BBC radio slot - literally priceless! Thanks Jane (I'm sure you're still here Grin)

HotRocker · 23/05/2018 14:25

I think they should get back in the kitchen. They are women after all.

JessicaJonesJacket · 23/05/2018 14:39

It wouldn't have been that difficult to have an interesting discussion about AWS and self-id. Little introduction on the history of AWS - why they were introduced and why certain people always objected to them. Some stats on how poorly women are represented in public life/politics. Stats on % of population who are women and the % who are trans and then the % that are transwomen.
Context is key. AWS weren't introduced to represent every minority group. They were addressing a key problem of patriarchy.
I would have loved if JV had asked JF why they couldn't campaign for ATS. That would be a reasonable position. After all their suicide stats, surgery/hormone experiences, etc, aren't shared by women.

Just had a phone call from my daughter. Her word, my redaction.

"I'll believe those are real women when like me they get called into work on a whim on my day off. I've got a pile of washing and a house like a shit tip because I'm always at fucking work. It's ok for them, men with all that privilege so good jobs while I have to work around childcare, and schools. (her husband) is also working his fking balls off so we can survive. Fuck 'em and all the perks and hand-holding they get while I get shat on from a great height because I had the temerity to become a mother".

Oops, not a happy DD today.

I listened, and much as I love and respect LB, I was very disappointed with this.
I think talking about transing being trendy and how she would have been diagnosed as trans now rather missed the whole point of self ID and AWS.
She could have talked about biology and oppressions as a direct result of the biology we are born with.
The discussions after with the transman and the mother of a transman were entirely besides the point, and to bring it down to that makes us sound transphobic. The whole point to me is that people can be whoever they want to be, but that women still need spaces due to discrimination, male violence etc.
Jane Fae was usual insidious Jane Fae. Nasty creepy porn fetishy man that she is.

If you're reading this, Jeremy;

"Didn't try very hard - badly researched - could do better"

4/10

You describe yourself as a journalist. Act like one.

R0wantrees · 23/05/2018 15:09

I think people will be thinking about some of the points raised for the first time. There were things that Jane Fae said that may well spark further thoughts. I'm not sure that some of Jane's comments will be as convincing as anticipated.

Discussion about the points made on the show also on this thread:

@spontaneousgiventime 😁

"There's more to being a woman than genitalia." Genitals still pretty damn important though, eh? When my babies were born, I didn't expect the Drs and midwives to guess their sex from any other feature!

Mxyzptlk · 23/05/2018 16:08

AWS wasn't meant to be the topic, tho. It was Labour Constituency Women's Officers.

Lottapianos · 23/05/2018 16:13

Guess their sex? I thought gender was just randomly assigned Wink

Pratchet · 23/05/2018 18:07

We should all complain. I think you get a fob off letter. But at least we are registering with the BBC how bad it is. They must at least take the numbers into account, otherwise how did transactivists get them all running scared? Because they mass report, complain etc. We should go that.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2018 18:21

I didn’t feel it was biased so much as ...meandering.
