Well this should be interesting. According to Twitter, Linda Bellos will be on it. Anyone want to phone in?

TIF on now.

SwearyG · 23/05/2018 13:56

HIs description of Hyde Park is atrocious. A woman was attacked by a man. It wasn’t a confrontation between two “factions”. It was men trying to shut women down and resort to violence when they meet opposition.

JessicaJonesJacket · 23/05/2018 13:56

Oh interesting that JV is asking about surgery.
But I can't believe he called Hyde Park a ruckus when a TA was found guilty of assault. No need to misrepresent it like that.

Flomper · 23/05/2018 13:57

I have listened to the Wright Show and Jeremy Vine today on this and so far all the phone ins have been trans people. Do biological women ever get to voice their opinions anymore?

JessicaJonesJacket · 23/05/2018 13:58

Ffs a call from a transman and a transman's mother. Will there be two calls from the other side?

Destinysdaughter · 23/05/2018 13:58

Mother of a trans man saying women aren't defined by their reproductive system. How else do you bloody define them then??Hmm

'But I can't believe he called Hyde Park a ruckus when a TA was found guilty of assault'

Sounds like he may not have been entirely across all the facts. What a surprise Hmm

Melamin · 23/05/2018 13:59

How else do you discriminate against women? Hmm

AbsintheFriends · 23/05/2018 13:59

And yet another phone call from a trans ally.

So - that's one TRA panellist in the studio, 2 lengthy phone calls from trans allies (playing TRA bingo - suicide stats, 'woman not defined by genitalia' etc etc)

one FWR supporter on a crackly phone line.

Poor.

spontaneousgiventime · 23/05/2018 14:00

If we don't define women by their genitals and reproductive role, how do we define a woman? Crazy folk out there.

Melamin · 23/05/2018 14:00

And the suicide rate is falling - how can anyone possibly know when the statistics for the suicide rates are all over the place?

Larryduff · 23/05/2018 14:01

waste of time, the AWS was barely touched on it was just a dig at feminists and completely missed the point. doesn't help when LB couldn't remember the word discrimination and then said trans were only coming out because it was trendy.

ScienceIsTruth · 23/05/2018 14:01

So bc we haven't all lived the queen's life and had her experiences having the prefix, 'trans', in front of the word, 'woman', is just like having the prefix, 'poor', 'rich' or 'young', etc.
So, JF is talking a load of bollocks, which is rather apt & not really a surprise!

Helmetbymidnight · 23/05/2018 14:02

That was all over the place, wasn't it.

I think JV was trying hard to use the right language - he was far less fluent than usual.

'There's so much more to being a woman than genitalia.'
I've heard this a lot, but when pressed they never articulate what they mean.

Are there stats that show that suicide among trans is dropping since transitions became more wide-spread?

Melamin · 23/05/2018 14:03

That was a typical BBC mush.

It is all because we are stupid and don't like the poor, poor trans people and are nasty to them. We should let them have every thing they want so that they will be happy. Lie down on the floor women!! Let them trample you!!! We cannot know how much they have suffered.!!!!!!!!! They deserve it.

Melamin · 23/05/2018 14:04

There's so much more to being a woman than genitalia

Do we ever hear 'There is so much more to being a man than genitalia'?

spontaneousgiventime · 23/05/2018 14:04

The only good thing about that was that JF came across as obnoxious as usual.

ScienceIsTruth · 23/05/2018 14:05

Also, Hyde Park wasn't a punch up, an older woman was attacked by a Trans activist. It seemed very biased towards trans. JV didn't seem well informed and didn't seem to have done any research/reading around both sides of the subject.

Disappointing.

Destinysdaughter · 23/05/2018 14:05

That was so disappointing. Mathew Wright show discussed it much better. I hate how they just have these poor Trans pp come on looking for sympathy rather than DISCUSSING THE ACTUAL ISSUES!

OP posts:
AbsintheFriends · 23/05/2018 14:06

It makes me furious when coverage is so biased, but I think that actually no one is fooled. Those voices are not representative of what ordinary people think, which is probably precisely why they are picked and given airtime.

I don't think anyone who didn't know about this issue already will be any the wiser.

I don't think anyone who did know about the issue already will have had their minds changed.

What was the point?

JessicaJonesJacket · 23/05/2018 14:07

Yy maybe the BBC will stop booking JF. They misdirect, obfuscate, talk over other guests and deliberately waste time. Everything you don't want in a guest.

ScienceIsTruth · 23/05/2018 14:13

I couldn't hear LB very well either, especially as JF spoke over her all the time.
JF was extremely rude and entitled .

Juells · 23/05/2018 14:18

@AbsintheFriends

JF mentions mumsnet! waves

TRAs never seem to realise that's a bit of an own-gaol

SuitedandBooted · 23/05/2018 14:20

I agree, Matthew Wright was much better.

Vine's default was , as always position is always, "better check I'm suitably trendy and on message". God forbid he takes a strong line, that's out of step with the BBC. Remember what happened to Woman's Hour.

Lots of talking over form JF, which of course Vine allowed to happen.
I think JF's early life socialisation was showing, wasn't it?

HotRocker · 23/05/2018 14:20

Something jumped out at me, JF saying it doesn’t matter that TW have no lived experience of being a woman, then in the next breath says that ’I would stay away from topics such as pregnancy because I have no experience.’ Isn’t that the point?

That made me shout at the radio in a most unladylike manner.
