Romario was in the wrong to keep it from Filomena considering how clear she was on her feelings. It wasn't Marcus's place to tell her , and on Romario's birthday. I don't really get why Romario stripped off though.

AfterSchoolWorry · 07/05/2018 22:03

Romario was definitely wrong. It's not ok to conceal material facts from someone you're romancing. That's high handed and disingenuous.

I enjoyed the programme though, more than I expected.

Italiangreyhound · 07/05/2018 22:03

@bellabelly "I do think Marcus (the two tone hair guy) relished the drama of telling Filomena. Have gone off him rather."

I think he was right to say something. He was the only one to speak to Filomena, it was her business too.

Tinycitrus · 07/05/2018 22:04

I watched this with my older daughters and it led to some interesting discussions about sexuality and gender Smile

Terfragette69 · 07/05/2018 22:04

Shit stirring bastard!!

I told them there was too much snogging though so I might not let them watch next week

cistersofterfy · 07/05/2018 22:06

I liked it. Interesting programme. I think they did well to choose a broad range of views and identities and just shows the confusion about who we are exists for all of us.

Wrong for Romario to be 'outed' but then I also understand why Marcus did what he did as Filomena was being lied to. It shows how difficult a situation it is.

DJLippy · 07/05/2018 22:07

@Italiangreyhound He didn't tell her to be nice though he had malicious intent.

Both the black housemates somewhat on the outside of this group, and I don't know why that might be, surely it could be nothing to do with the colour of their skin could it? That's not very woke is it?

Terfragette69 · 07/05/2018 22:10

Was it just me or did none of them appear overtly political... As in tra?? Just ordinary people living their lives without shoving it down our throats??

@DJLippy "He didn't tell her to be nice though he had malicious intent."

Why do you think that?

@Terfragette69 "Was it just me or did none of them appear overtly political... As in tra?? Just ordinary people living their lives without shoving it down our throats??"

Yes, I agree, they did mostly come across as quite normal young people, not political etc.

I thought Campbell came across very well.

BlytheByName · 07/05/2018 22:16

I felt the whole group were gossiping about Romario and leaving Filomena out which was very unfair. She deserved to know as she was developing feelings...
I think Marcus was right to inform her because Romario was not going to which is not fair.

However I suspect Romario was put in there precisely to force this kind of drama and Filomena was just a pawn in the TV producers narrative. She is the exploited one here.

DJLippy · 07/05/2018 22:17

Because it's pretty obvious if you have eyes. For starters he had that 'chummy' chat with Romaro where he helpfully told him how everybody knew and was talking about him behind his back. Unlike Marcus, who was telling him to his face because he's so honorable. He couldn't wait to out him! He's milking Romaro's anger, twisting the situation round so that he is the victim. He's all malice.

AfterSchoolWorry · 07/05/2018 22:18

Woman perusing someone not knowing they were a transman

Well, more the transman pursuing her. She's quite a traditional Irish girl, the trans fella didn't feel any obligation whatsoever to disclose his trans status. He knew she wouldn't be into it. Which I thought was wrong of him.

I know the guy who disclosed it was unpopular for that, but whatever his motivation, Filomena was definitely entitled to know.

That's not how I read it. Marcus' ex boyfriend cheated on him and as a result he strongly believes that honesty is always the best policy. I thought that seemed plausible.

Still, it wasn't his place to say.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 22:27

Thank you everyone for the synopsis. I appreciate it.

MrsWooster · 07/05/2018 22:28

It's tomorrow night, fellow viewers, not next week. See you Here!

Italiangreyhound · 07/05/2018 22:43

@BlytheByName "However I suspect Romario was put in there precisely to force this kind of drama and Filomena was just a pawn in the TV producers narrative. She is the exploited one here."

I agree. And with @AfterSchoolWorry tooo.

I also think Romario is pretty dopey to go on a programme specifically about gender, knowing that he is a trans man and knowing he does not want to out himself and then to go topless swimming! Very odd behaviour.

@cistersofterfy I agree because Marcus' ex boyfriend cheated on him he has a strong feeling about honesty.

But "Still, it wasn't his place to say." Why not? What if a friend hooks up with someone and a mutual friend knows that person is married already, or in a relationship or something, is it OK to tell the person who hooks up with the married person? I think of it like that really, if you know something about a person that a friend would want to know, maybe you should be free to tell them that thing?

crispbuttyfan · 07/05/2018 22:45

Was it just me or did none of them appear overtly political... As in tra?? Just ordinary people living their lives without shoving it down our throats??

Newsflash!!: Thats the same for 99.9% of trans people. Although that is actually how things are in reality, you would need to see the reality of trans people to accept that, rather than echo chambers.

cistersofterfy · 07/05/2018 22:49

I agree with you but clearly Romario is touchy about it and could've been planning to talk to Filomena about it very soon but all of those options were taken away.

I'm bi and totally open about that but if I wasn't, I'd be within my rights to be fuming if someone outed me without my consent.
