So channel 4 set up a documentary that was supposed to present gender essentialism as something to aspire to and ended up with them all calling for gender erasure and for a stop to using labels. Interesting.

I had huge huge empathy for all of them. And I felt incredibly sad that the seemingly only solution for some of them was to undergo surgery on healthy, well functioning bodies.
Ignoring the wider issues of sexual cross dressing fetishists and potential sex offenders coming under the now incredibly broad trans umbrella - there still must be a better way to help people accept that their personalities CAN exist in the bodies they have. And they can dress and act how they like as long as no harm comes to others.
Seriously, can the medical profession find no better answer?

Bi11yOneMate I felt very sorry for Saffron, she just needed to be told it was ok to not be as pretty as some other women, and just be who you want to be. She seemed quite surprised to reach that conclusion at the end. It was a bit sad and reinforced a lot of my prejudices about a lot of this crap tbh

Ooh Sarah is good! And yes in the eighties we had Prince and Grace Jones who were genuinely gender fluid, but didn't think they had to mutilate their bodies to be true to themselves. Wasn't that more progressive?

So many teens feel like they don't fit.
So many teens have issues with how they look, and their changing bodies. Ffs I was anorexic and HAIRY. I KNOW.
It's too easy to identify with whatever "outcast" misfit trend is around at the time, but the trans trend has so much longer term serious physical affects than any before.
I'd rather they pierced themselves with safety pins and identify as a goth than cut bits off themselves.
