Just want to give a few vibes out because it's been a little depressing on here today. We will do this. We will get there. Women of mumsnet, you are incredible, and when it's all over, your role will go down in feminist history.

Much dramatic. But I don't care Grin

it makes me really happy to be (virtually) surrounded by an ace bunch of women. clever articulate cross fierce but also super compassionate.

we will get there.

a thing i really really hate is when watching syfi set in the far future there's still rape and misogyny and prostitution and stuff, as if the writers can't even imagine a future existing without such things. but you lot can. and do what you can to push towards it.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 30/04/2018 19:19

I have up days and down days about this Pratchet. There does seem to be a change in the air in terms of people peaktransculting. I hope that spoilt ballots in the local elections this week might help too.

Upwards and onwards!

Floisme · 30/04/2018 19:21

Yes indeed.

And god bless us everyone Wink

Cheers! Let's start the journey by keeping this forum. I came very close to leaving after they deleted that parkrun thread. But no, we must fight on.

I give new sci-fi shows a bit of leeway, but if they resort to these boring tropes and don't shift gear, I've taken to abandoning a series after a couple of episodes. If enough of us stop watching, they'll get the message eventually.

Also, keep on keeping on lovely women of MN. Don't let the haters grind you down.

SwearyG · 30/04/2018 19:29

Thank you for the timely reminder, Pratchett, we need to remember that we have to keep going. And that we will not be silenced.

Everyone on here plays their part. We’re in this together.

There's far more of us than anyone realises.
We are not about eradicating anyone - just insisting that women are consulted, our rights respected and that children are safeguarded.

I’ve been very despondent for a few days. So glad voices are still being heard despite having cotton wool stuffed into our mouths. I outed myself to one of my four children at the weekend, so I’m waiting for that backlash. But I am patting myself in the back for having the courage to say what is true even though he (as will his siblings) completely disagree with me. He’s just finishing his 2nd year at uni & all that seems to have done is brainwash him & remove his critical thinking.

Pratchet · 30/04/2018 21:00

Woman matter!
I had a very unpleasant knock back last week. Really tough. But I pushed back and am still going forward. What keeps me going is, I owe this to all of us and to all our daughters. How does one eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Here's to us Wine 🏆🏆

There's loads of us out there who believe in biology and freedom of speech.

Cheers amazing women 🍷🍷🍷 proud to be part of this forum.

CharlieParley · 30/04/2018 21:50

Pratchet as I'm facing an existential threat on a completely different level (although funnily enough if I hadn't been a SAHM I wouldn't be) and am now very aware of this threat to women's rights, sometimes it seems hopeless.

Hopeless and entirely Kafkaesque. The mindfuck is just too much sometimes.

So I decided to unplug for a bit, spent the weekend fighting horsetail and wild garlic and try out my new sun lounger and it's been bliss.

Now feeling refreshed, sending Flowers and Cake and Wine to you all. Onwards and upwards. Nothing easily gained is worth having or something like that...

MsMcWoodle · 30/04/2018 22:13

Cheers all.

Stilettosandan0venglove · 30/04/2018 22:39

Thanks Pratchett I've been a bit despondent today after trying to discuss with a (male) friend, who I think thought it didn't much matter, and it's a non-issue that I'd got riled up about after too much internet. I was talking about trans kids. I need to work on my speaking skills.

BlytheByName · 30/04/2018 22:47

I got 'Nevertheless, she persisted.' tattooed on my arm at Easter, I'm 53 and never had a tattoo before. It's to remind me that there is no stopping. Words mean something and that means we will prevail. Eventually.

Pratchet · 30/04/2018 23:19

Charlie sounds gorgeous. yy to 24 hours out. We can be like a relay of righteous energy.

Stilletos don't think it's because of your speaking skills! Men don't get because it doesn't affect them, and they never ever want to say 'oh I see now' when a woman explains something. Thanks for speaking up. It's incredible to find one's voice on this.

Pratchet one of my sisters told me years ago about eating the elephant, a bite size at a time. It's true, don't look to next year, next month or even next week sometimes, just bite off today's plateful of elephant and get it down.

Today I've hit peak misogyny too, nothing personal, just transcult stuff, men who murder their children, women offered rooms to let in return for sex (and if they don't comply violence), another woman beaten/tortured/raped/murdered by a man - everyday stuff in the news. I'm feeling down but I'm going to spoil my ballot paper on Thurs and wear the elephant pendant my lovely sister bought me to remind me about resilience.

As Tracey Thorn says - "But I'm used to things that hurt, and I fight like a girl".

MountainWitch · 30/04/2018 23:43

Hear hear. It's been a rough few days here and I was seriously considering leaving for a bit. But this thread is a timely reminder, so thanks all.Gin
