MNHQ Deletion Policy

TheUterati · 30/04/2018 17:03

Earlier today the Trans Park Run thread was deleted in its entirety because SOME posts alleging cheating were deemed to be 'not in the spirit' of MN.

We have a thread about that running.

I have just been deleted on the Heather Peto thread for posting this:

"Bless..."

A post intended to be mildly dismissive.

That was deleted for breaking talk guidelines.

Give me a fucking break MNHQ.

"Bless..." gets a deletion!??!?!

TRA really have got you on a short chain, haven't they?

In the days of yore, a poster signing up with a goady name who said they were here to report posts would have been considered 'not in the spirit of mumsnet'

Quite. @HebeMumsnet would you please comment on why 'bless' and 'yawn' are more inflammatory and less 'in the spirit' than signing up with a goady username in order to vexatiously report posts?

Thank you.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 30/04/2018 20:53

Deleting posts simply saying "bless" and "yawn" not only makes a thread more difficult to read but gives the impression that something awful was said. That must help the TRA agenda that MN is a hotbed of transphobia. It makes posters look transphobic when they aren't. It makes threads look like they are full of deleted transphobic comments when they aren't

Absolutely

Oh come on, it's gone beyond yawn today so don't pretend that all the deletions are down to just yawn and bless

cady mate!! I thought we had an understanding!!

Only joking

But seriously...i don't give a shit if a transphobic post is deleted i dont give a shit if a personal attack is deleted ....so i dont feel i need to comment on those

But i do care about stupid little remarks being deleted

When they never have before...at no point have i ever seen 'yawn' treated as a personal attack

Ereshkigal · 30/04/2018 20:59

Supermatch might be interested to learn that several of their posts have been deleted. Do you stand by your approval of deletions?

loudaloneknows · 30/04/2018 20:59

I think they're getting what they want: us squabbling amongst ourselves - divide and rule and the ones who get a sexual thrill out of being ridiculed for being female are getting their wank material sorted too.

Yawn indeed.

ReluctantCamper · 30/04/2018 21:01

in the last 5 days there have been 222 posts containing the word 'yawn'. while many of them are quite inoffensive, some contain text like 'stealth boast', so are meant to be goady.

people just don't report those because those threads aren't being policed by self appointed vigilantes.

just something you might like to bear in mind MNHQ

TheUterati · 30/04/2018 21:01

Been out and now come back to the thread.

@MNHQ. Bollocks. Utter bollocks.

Just come out with it and say your chains are being yanked by TRAs and this is what you are now prioritising.

What's your point? So have yours. Posts will be deleted if they break talk guidelines, whichever viewpoint you're coming from.

thebewilderness · 30/04/2018 21:05

So that free speech that MN is in favor of only applies to those who make derogatory and abusive comments directed at Feminists!
I understand perfectly.
Mods judgment is impaired by their bias.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 30/04/2018 21:07

ereshkigal

Really?

That's ironic

(Or is it ...i might have that word wrong)

LangCleg · 30/04/2018 21:07

MNHQ need also to have a policy about vexatious reporting.

Yes, it does.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 30/04/2018 21:08

Wait a minute

I thought we were going to be self-appointed vigilantes

I was gonna get us a badge and everything

LangCleg · 30/04/2018 21:12

Cady - I think that's a reference to another recent thread, in which Super said none of their posts had ever been deleted. It provoked a to and fro about who was reporting posts (most of the regulars were saying that they didn't report).

So it is kinda relevant here. Point being - what do you do if there are two sides to an argument with one side being more on the free speech side so doesn't do any complaining while the other is more on the authoritarian side so does do a lot of reporting? Because you end up with uneven moderation.

I managed page 3.

HUMANS CANNOT CHANGE SEX. FACT.

I will not be bullied in to telling lies about biological fact.

I am sick to death of women been told what to do when to speak and what to say.

No man tells me what to think and that includes the ones wearing feminine clothing.

RedToothBrush · 30/04/2018 21:16

People behaving like this by jumping on the slightest thing as I battled to try and process things without the freedom of time and space, just demands DID NOT WORK.

More to the point trying to erase my reality, my memories and understanding of the world have contributed to me having two nervous breakdowns.

If you think you are protecting people by reporting every god damn word you wrong.

It is harmful. It will not end well. And no amount of bullying (and yes this counts as bullying) will change that. It does not matter what the law is on this. The law only holds if public consensus is behind it.

Bring people along with you. Reassure. Don't do this.

I found myself in a space where behaviour, meant I have to walk away. Not identity. Behaviour. I could not support what was harming me. Not out of malice. But self preservation.

The more this ramps up in this way, the more I fear.

You NEED to let people talk. There NEEDS to be debate to process all this and work it all through. Silencing removes that possibility but the problem still remains. It does not go away because it is unresolved. Instead it festers.

You do more harm by not allowing people to talk in the long run.

Ereshkigal · 30/04/2018 21:17

The other thing it does is impeach the credibility of the mods to the people who saw the comment before it was removed.

I agree.I don't want the debate silenced either. Women's rights are important. Here is one of the only places you can talk about it.
Letting debate slide into attacks though does more harm than good.
