Is it just me who hates the word "transphobic"?

Because it's bandied about and shouted from the rooftops every time a person dares to comment on a trans thread with anything other than dazzling praise? You know, with things like facts or biology.

Say anything that disagrees = transphobic.

Say anything that is biologically and factually true that they don't like = transphobic.

And never mind the utter bollocks I saw on another thread about using the wrong pronoun being violence

Or rather, it’s so fucking lazy isn’t it? It seems that disagreeing with a trans identified person or ally is transphobic and it’s a word used to shut down debate. I tend to think most people who use it aren’t very bright.

I don't give a single solitary shite about the word transphobic, I'm afraid. It's lost all meaning in common usage by activists and hence also any power it ever had over me.

These days, I see at as a synonym of all the other expletives indicative of narcissistic rage. Usually used immediately after a woman has said no. Same old same old.

Women's rights and child protection are about women and children.

I used to bridle at the word bigot. But that's also been so overused I don't even register it these days.

I think it's used too much. But I also think it's inaccurate to describe what is (theoretically) being described. Surely transism would be more accurate.

Bizarrely, having been focused so much on making a living over the past ten years I didn't notice that people l had started to believe transing meant actually changing sex. I am still a bit discombobulated that people believe it! It's like believing the angel came down from heaven and put the baby Jesus in Mary's uterus! I guess people like magical thinking.

I find it depressing too Pandora. It and bigot. They’re used when anyone asks a question or gives a point to which there is no logical reply. It’s an insulting version of #nodebate.

Words and phrases like transphobic, bigot and "on the wrong side of history" indicate that the person is just parroting something they have heard, rather than really thought the issue through and made up their own minds.

I dislike the word "phobic" or "phobia" being applied to anything indiscriminately in order to describe the phenomenon of someone not agreeing with someone else's views about the subject.

We could have "brexit-phobic" and "brexitphobes" or "Takethatphobic" or "Hollyoaksphobe".

It's simply unreasonable to ascribe a psychological fear to something because you don't agree with the views being expressed. A phobia is an unreasonable fear, isn't it? Phobia means something - it's not just a description of someone's views you don't agree with.

But honestly, if I see someone described as a transphobe or a bigot nowadays, I just assume they're a sensible sort of person who hasn't realised they're supposed to pretend a whole load of old bollocks is true.

Maybe there are claims of transphobia, because here, there are conversations suggesting trans (a tiny, tiny minority) rights somehow trump women's rights, young butch lesbian identity's being erased, children are being sacrificed to appease the trans lobby, singling out individual trans people for fun and derision (justified or not is it necessary?), when murder is committed, multiple threads suggesting the perpetrator is trans or looks trans despite the fact they're plainly a woman, and basking in the 100 crimes committed by people who say they're trans videos etc...
I appreciate Self ID is contentious issue and many women may not like the idea due to privacy and safety concerns. I'm quite dubious myself about how it will be implemented. I thought the system as it is was imperfect but it works most of the time.
Why does a campaign against Self ID require so much demonization, derision, mocking and probing into trans identities if the issue is so cut and dry in the minds of the regular posters here? To the outsider it does seem like transphobia sadly.

Disagreeing with trans ideology does not make you transphobic, in the same way disagreeing with feminist ideology doesn't make you a misogynist.

It's all part of the same nonsense that has men calling themselves Incels. Just a nutty lack of understanding that other people can say No. Women should have no entitlement to boundaries, identity, safe spaces, the right not to have sex with someone, the right to be rude to men if they want to...
