This was an interesting read. It seems IW has taken to channeling Katie Hopkins. I'm not going to try and pull it apart as there is so so much wrong with it...

"I’m sure most people who use the site are decent folk. They want nothing to do with the rabid mouth-frothing going on by so-called “feminists.”"

Reductio ad Hitlerum is a form of association fallacy

American attorney and author Mike Godwin coined his eponymous law on Usenet in 1990
Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule of Hitler analogies)is an Internet adage that asserts that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Adolf Hitler or his deeds. Promulgated by the American attorney and author Mike Godwin in 1990

My mind was changed after I attempted to explain the trans debate to my husband using preferred pronouns and terms like “trans lesbian” and realised after a few minutes that he’d not followed the basic meaning and didn’t know who was what sex.

YY. I think people familiar with this debate forget this.

Ereshkigal · 25/04/2018 17:17

Of course this confusion tends to benefit transactivists.

RefuseToDenounceBiology · 25/04/2018 17:51

I agree. And I think the obsession about 'deadnaming' and supposed 'privacy' protecting from 'outing' helps to obscure and confuse even more.

When you look at pictures of the person before 'transition' or read things they said in their male name it does clear the mists in an instant. You realise 'oh that's who you are' and 'ah that explains the view that seem so masculine and male and unlike women' and 'so that's why they are pushy and confident about dominating discussions, taking control of interviews and interruping with out any sensitivity or restraint even though they are wearing make up and a dress'.

I remember an interview with Caitlyn Jenner and I was taken aback at the brazen confidence.

The fact that we are not 'allowed' to mention their sex or their former name is a deliberate move to stop us grappling with what is happening.

thebewilderness · 25/04/2018 18:26

Can someone please clarify why these deletions have been made? What transgressions were committed?
As best I can understand it we are not allowed to speak our opinion of any individual transgender identified male as it is defamation under the current Orwellian interpretation interpretation and application of the Equality Act.

LangCleg · 25/04/2018 18:51

Can someone please clarify why these deletions have been made? What transgressions were committed?

Yes, please. Because I neither misgendered nor talked about looks.

TerfAndSerf · 25/04/2018 19:31

@SandyDrawsBadly has got us to a T.

I tenched up when I saw this thread title, but after a good chuckle at your fish puns, I feel eely chilled.

I think sometimes when an iffy post or two gets reported for MNHQ to take a look at, some mods maybe get a bit overzealous. I once had a post deleted for 'misgendering' on a rather febrile thread ... the 'he' I was referring to was Donald Trump.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 26/04/2018 07:45

I've had no explanation for the deletion of my comment - it referred to said non-woman's narcissistic rage and how obvious it was.

I also reckon that the trolls report posts of those of us who disagree with them and as every complaint is assumed to be valid, so the payback happens. Covert weaponising of law enforcement - just like reality...

womanformallyknownaswoman · 26/04/2018 07:46

Do they have male mods?

busyboysmum · 26/04/2018 07:56

Oh yes I had a post deleted and was puzzled as to why. As far as I'm concerned I said nothing in anyway wrong. This is a new low for MN. I've never had a post deleted before ever.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 26/04/2018 08:31

If "diagnosing" people with PD traits is now a deletable offence, they might as well ctrl-alt-delete the whole site Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 26/04/2018 09:04

On another thread a comment by Datun was deleted. If Datun's comments aren't calm and measured enough then we've officially entered the Orwell Zone.

AIBU to ask if peaches have autism?

(On AIBU you can apparently say whatever the hell you want.)

LangCleg · 26/04/2018 09:14

I've had no explanation for the deletion of my comment - it referred to said non-woman's narcissistic rage and how obvious it was.

I made a comment that said India finding women on Mumsnet talking about a wide range of topics was experienced by India as narcissistic injury and that is the reason for India's rage.

It wasn't deleted.

I can't remember what I said in my deleted posts but I was scrupulous to avoid misgendering and personal comments on looks and similar. (I think India looks perfectly fine anyway!)

So I am genuinely at a loss.

Trumpdump · 26/04/2018 10:36

Maybe we should get India Willoughby in for a web chat to clear the air? I can't wait to hear her thoughts on peaks, biscuits, and other lady things! Smile

Beyond11cisRetinol · 26/04/2018 12:47

Pleeeeeaaaassssse
Please please please please please!!

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 26/04/2018 12:50

It would be interesting as India used to be against self-ID but has changed her mind.

UpstartCrow · 26/04/2018 12:54

Pram emoticon requested for IW webchat. Perleeaaaase.

Pythagonal · 26/04/2018 13:24

In case this hasn't already been added, here's Lisa Muggeridge's 'Short Message to India Willoughby'.

curiouserand · 26/04/2018 13:39

Thanks, SpiderwebHammock

Yes, the idea that the real, actual Nazis would have the historical reputation they had if all they'd done was called Jews by the wrong pronoun or 'deadnamed them (as of course they did do - I have my family passports with the name 'Israel' (male) or 'Sarah' (female) added, to make it clear they were Jewish) is ridiculous.

The point is that the real, actual Nazis also murdered millions of people in the most brutal way.

And actually, ignoring that crucial second point is what make's IW's claims not just ridiculous but incredibly - and surely deliberately - offensive.

She is trying to pretend the Nazis are looked on as the epitome of evil for a bit of misnaming. She is overlooking the murder of millions.

Unless she can give the example of a single person murdered by MN users (and something tells me THAT would have hit the papers), she should a) apologise profusely to both MN users for the slur and to Jews for the minimisation of mass murder and then b) SHUT THE FUCK UP.

curiouserand · 26/04/2018 13:43

And yes, it is hard to see it as coincidental that she posts stuff minimising the Holocaust just at the same point that Labour Holocaust deniers are springing out of the woodwork everywhere.

There are plenty of people nominally on the left who would like both Jews and women to shut up and know our place, as despite all the blatant attacks on both groups, we are (supposedly) the privileged ones.

BarrackerBarmer · 26/04/2018 13:59

Can I link to this thread the next time someone tells me that old fashioned post op TS just want to live their lives in peace and not stomp over women like the TRAs?

Every time someone references the True Scotsman/no True Scotsman trope of good/bad trans activism I think of this person as a perfect example of why not to generalise.

Operative status is no guarantee of lack of misogyny.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/04/2018 14:01

@curiouserand I agree. Lisa Muggeridge’s piece is spot on.
