There is some very unfortunate name-calling now in the comments under Julie’s video - from both sides, not so many of sisters uncut but TGLWGH out the window Hmm

StaplesCorner · 22/04/2018 01:14

Well done Spending!

JustAnotherSpartacus · 22/04/2018 01:29

Another clip, where a protester goes ape shit over being called she ""I'm not she you F*king C*t my pronouns are they"

MadBadDaddy · 22/04/2018 01:38

I had to force myself to watch that. How can they think that this is what will help anyone? The entitlement is sickening.

JB did a good job of standing up to "The Militia Wing Of The Nutcase Orange Fringe Militia Job"

SpringNowPlease2018 · 22/04/2018 02:05

@MadBadDaddy they seem to be gaining power so it is helping them.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 22/04/2018 02:17

I am sadly disappointed (i.e. fucking totally disgusted) by the Men's Rights Activists.

EasterRobin · 22/04/2018 03:30

Is this a new low for the women's meeting protestors or normal MO? I'd imagined them protesting outside the venue with shouty rude words and banners. I'd never thought of them protesting inside the venue.

thebewilderness · 22/04/2018 03:44

For a while they were taking seats and then making a big show of interrupting a speaker with a planned shouty walk out but it didn't get them much traction because there are so few of them.

ChattyLion · 22/04/2018 05:02

Oh my fucking god. I never in my life thought I would see masked men physically stopping women from attending a public meeting to discuss proposed changes to UK law.

^ What she said.
It’s horrifying. Why is peaceful demonstration, leafleting, making placards not enough for these a-holes? Why do they need to add in threatening behaviour specifically to silence others? Why can’t they take part in a debate about a legal change if they are so convinced that they have right on their side??.

thebewilderness · 22/04/2018 05:06

Their hashtag is #nodebate because they do not think rights should be a matter of debate.
Women are in the unenviable position of claiming that we want to debate our rights. We really don't. What we want to draw attention to is the erosion of women's rights that have taken place as a result of the application of of the Gender Recognition Act and the Equality Act.

Well said.
Also, the last real time there were (male) blockades to women holding political meetings, was in the days of First Wave Feminism (women's suffrage). So frankly, I think that shows 'what side of history™' the ones in black masks are on.

Trumpdump · 22/04/2018 06:20

Can you imagine if this wasn't in the U.K. and was happening in a less-developed country, like India? The Guardian etc would be all over it (and quite rightly too!)

"Working class women physically blocked from discussing feminism by angry masked men" Sad

PlowerOfScotland · 22/04/2018 07:23

Is this a new low for the women's meeting protestors or normal MO?

This is the first time the venue hasn't pulled out due to threats and another one found at short notice. There was hand slapping, pushing, blockading, verbal abuse. There's just been a TRA convicted of punching a woman in her 60s at a meeting, judge didn't give victim compo though, as victim declined to use she to describe a male in lipstick.

EasterRobin · 22/04/2018 07:56

Women are having to discuss their legal rights in secret locations to avoid this kind of intimidation to themselves and the threats to the venue. The people attending next week's meeting won't even find out where it is until just before the event. How is this seen as progress?

SophoclesTheFox · 22/04/2018 08:56

That's a disgrace.

Julie did so well to stay calm.

As for Magdalen's video, I am compltely appalled. When I saw her at the HofC meeting, she is a) tiny and b) quite frail due to her recent illness, and walks with a stick. That someone would think it is OK to try to slap the phone out of the hands of such a person, threaten them, and physically block them absolutely beggars belief.

Cowards and bullies. You are NOT on the right side of any history, you awful, stupid people.

Bespin · 22/04/2018 09:02

I am often disheartened at young people's approach to activism and thia idea that it is all about the shouting. It's not it's about going in and making points in a reasoned way all the time they spent outside could have been better spent inside listening and then presenting alternative views no one tends to listen to you when you are shouting. Violance and intimidatation is never the answer

MadBadDaddy · 22/04/2018 09:12

"It’s horrifying. Why is peaceful demonstration, leafleting, making placards not enough for these a-holes? "

IKR? A bit less chest-beating and jungle noises, a little more crying hugging and singing, and we'd probably get a bucketload more sympathy. Then you would only be upset about us ripping off the Old School Feminist Songbook.

SophoclesTheFox · 22/04/2018 09:14

I'm not at all sure how to read that comment, madbad. I can't tell if you're taking the piss or not.

Lancelottie · 22/04/2018 09:16

I watched this and didn't really see it as violent (more as camera wobble). I take it there was actual contact that I missed. Bloody annoying self-righteous students, is what I took from that video.

(As an aside, is everyone else much better at judging ages and sex from half a face? I struggle until I've seen a chin or a bald patch.)

If this is going to be a frequent occurrence, I suggest someone like Julie would be very welll placed to ask the questions that need to be asked : 'Do you intend to prevent women from discussing matters affecting women? Do you think transwomen have more right to be heard than natal women?' come to mind.

merrymouse · 22/04/2018 09:16

then presenting alternative views

If only somebody could present a coherent alternative view instead of a range of memes.

“Transwomen are women”

“So how are you defining women here?”

Crickets.

Lancelottie · 22/04/2018 09:17

As in, to ask them right there, on the staircase, while filming. We want a discussion, whether inside or outside the meeting.

MadBadDaddy · 22/04/2018 09:31

@SophoclesTheFox sorry I'll try again.

"It’s horrifying. Why is peaceful demonstration, leafleting, making placards not enough for these a-holes? "

IKR? If TAs stopped going low, women wouldn't have to keep going high, everyone could unclench and Trans topics wouldn't be constantly smeared all over the Topic lists.

Ekphrasis · 22/04/2018 09:31

I missed a lot of that women's meeting; what happened in the end?

AngryAttackKittens · 22/04/2018 09:57

The fact that one of them lunged at Magdelyn gives me the rage. She's just been treated for brain cancer ffs!
