Are you a woman in your dreams?

Just thinking about what it means to feel like a woman. I am a woman in dreams involving my daughter and when I am being chased. Other dreams it is indeterminate or male. Indeterminate probably dominates these days but as a girl/teenager male dominated. Ok I have sometimes been inanimate objects also.

I only have one dream I ever remember and I'm always female in it. I. Always a female ninja brought from the past to save the future. It's really violent and I have no idea why I keep dreaming it. I'm really quiet and shy in real life. I never seem to rem ember my other dreams.

@KittTheCar Ooh I wonder if that was my thread! Am chuffed if so. I started one recently in AIBU asking whether everyone has a narrative running constantly in their head (someone told me not everyone does and I didn't believe them) and it turned into a really interesting discussion about how different people think, with people describing what the internal landscape of their mind is like.

AnitaLovesVictor · 23/04/2018 23:42

I'm always a woman in my dreams, always me.

Except one time, when I was going through a stressful time at Uni, a very vivid dream that was like a movie that I was watching. I was sort of the male in that one, and kinda like Rod Stewart Confused T'was very strange.

TripleRainbow · 24/04/2018 00:15

I am always me in my dreams and therefore female. I nearly always experience and remember my dreams vividly and I dream in colour. But I'm usually 10-20 years younger. Which has led to genuine confusion and disappointment when waking up. Not so much now but when I was in my 20s (I'm in my late 30s). I attach less age to myself in my dreams, but the appearance is similar.

blackteasplease · 24/04/2018 01:32

Usually I am myself and a woman, but I have been a man or ungendered.

I have also had dreams where I was thinking of myself as a woman but had a penis and was aware all women had penises.

And that was long before I knew anything about the GRA/ self id etc so it wasn't to do with That!

GraceMarks · 24/04/2018 15:29

I'm always myself in dreams, but sometimes I'm a male version of myself. Still me, but a dude. He's a bit of an arsehole really, and I never really enjoy the dreams where I'm him but it's interesting to think about!

Ofspartacus · 24/04/2018 17:57

I'm always me- but sometimes a version of me with magical witchy powers 🧙‍♀️

TheBonyFinger · 15/11/2018 20:53

Sometimes, I'm not exactly male, but I have a penis, which I wield to the joy of all concerned.

Years ago, I dreamed that I was an elephant, caparisoned and dignified. It was a lovely dream and I wish it would happen again.

Doobigetta · 15/11/2018 21:01

I don’t remember ever having a dream where I wasn’t me.

halfwitpicker · 15/11/2018 21:03

God I've never even asked myself this :I'm always a woman in my dreams, never been anything else.

halfwitpicker · 15/11/2018 21:04

When I have sex dreams that result in sleep-orgasms

Some people have all the luck

I think they can be quite annoying

^

Yes, you wake-up slightly unfulfilled though. Frustrating.

AwkwardSquad · 15/11/2018 21:08

I’m me in my dreams, so therefore female, but it’s never particularly relevant (unless it’s a sex dream, I’m definitely female in those). I have really bad nightmares at times, involving threat, peril to vulnerable people (children or, weirdly, kittens) and violence, and I know I’m getting better when I start fighting back in them. I’m still me, though, whether fighting or fleeing.

AwkwardSquad · 15/11/2018 21:09

I agree with the pp about sex dreams. Never quite there...

rightreckoner · 15/11/2018 21:10

How interesting. I've only ever been me in my dreams - my female body does sometimes feature like when I dream I've given birth or am pregnant again or am naked in a public place. But normally it's just me, trying to do something frustrating like trying to get to Heathrow in a canoe.

I've never dreamed that I am someone else or that I am a man. I'm just so CIS Wink

NewWomensMovement · 15/11/2018 21:19

I dreamt of having a penis years ago - the whole thing was really realistic. I can't remember the detail of the dream now apart from the fact I had a strong sense that if I was a bloke and had a cock - it would be exactly like that. It wasn't like anyone's I've seen in real life, but I remembered it being slightly disappointingly lacking in girth Grin

In dreams I can flit between male female and sexless, but I have had loads of giving birth, breastfeeding, etc dreams.

I am pretty sure I've had sex dreams from both the male and female perspective but they don't relate to reality much.

RagingWhoreBag · 15/11/2018 21:21

I’m quite often pregnant in dreams - I can feel that writhing lumpy feeling when their foot pokes out really vividly. So given that both men and women can be pregnant I guess that makes me neutral hey?! Wink

IncomingCannonFire · 15/11/2018 21:22

I'm always me in dreams, so a female although I don't really focus on my feminine physical characteristics except when have sex dreams or the being pregnant one. I have occasionally had a dream from the perspective of my dh or my dm or other. Where I dream I am that person. It usually switches back to me in a different narrative.
I can influence my own dreams since I was about 7 or 8yo.

WomanOfTime · 15/11/2018 21:22

Sometimes I'm me, or a younger version of me. Sometimes I'm another person, male or female. Occasionally I'm a sort of disembodied onlooker. I once had a dream in which I died and my consciousness merged with the cosmos and I was everywhere.

In the dreams where I'm male I don't have any sense of it being somehow wrong - that's just me, for as long as the dream lasts.

arranfan · 15/11/2018 21:26

I haven't remembered a dream in decades (might be related to a series of head injuries from childhood on that also had a substantial impact on my sleep patterns).

The only ones I recall from being young are nightmares. I was definitely me in them.

VickyEadie · 15/11/2018 21:27

I'm always me.

AspieAndProud · 15/11/2018 21:31

I’m always me but younger. I don’t ‘see’ me but I know I’m younger because the dreams nearly always include family who died years ago. It makes me sad when I wake and I remember they’re gone all over again.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 15/11/2018 21:32

I'm almost always me in my dreams, so therefore a woman, but that is usually incidental to the storyline. In the last year, I think due to some medication I'm currently taking, I have had some especially vivid dreams and have even been aware on a few occasions that I am dreaming. In one case I was actually trying to pinch myself in the dream to prove to myself it was a dream (as I wouldn't feel it) and I've also tried to wake myself from a dream before thinking 'this is a dream, wake up!'.

Since childhood I have had a few experiences of great dreams in which I could fly and have woken up feeling amazing and also horrid nightmares from which I have woken up sobbing.

My dreams are visual, like watching a movie but usually not very vivid in terms of colour, quite muted really.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 15/11/2018 21:35

To add that I've also had dreams in which I was pregnant and had a real sense that I could feel the baby kicking etc so I have had physical sensations aligned with my dream as well. Also anytime I need to actually go to the loo and I'm in the dream the dream shifts so that regardless of what I was doing I start running around looking for a toilet. This can go on for some time before I wake up and realise what's going on! Thankfully never actually gone to the loo in a dream Confused

umpteennamechanges · 15/11/2018 21:45

I've only ever been myself in dreams (a woman). Except one time when I was a giant tiddlywink.

FermatsTheorem · 15/11/2018 21:51

Like a PP just me - unless I'm having sex in the dream in which case I definitely have a clit and vag.
