Labour Party confirm that all women shortlists are open to anyone who IDs as a woman

They did not consult as promised, they did not discuss. They just decided.

Jennifer James has instructed her solicitors.

Fuck the Labour Party. That is the final nail in the coffin for me. Anyone got any ideas about how best to spoil the ballot next month?

I think it's good that they have confirmed this before next month's local elections. It would have been really underhand to have left this statement until after, as they had obviously made the decision months ago. I hope it gets some press attention.

Weezol · 17/04/2018 14:57

Dear Labour,

Why don't you just send canvassers out with the instruction that if the door is opened by an adult female, the canvasser should shout 'Fuck off bitch, we don't want your vote' in her face.

Surely that would display a more open and honest standpoint than you current shenanigans.

I'll take my 25 year northern working class history of voting Labour and throw it out of the window, maybe Owen Jones can pick up the pieces of it as they blow south and write another nice book to bolster his Bromentum credibility.

Winewinewinegin · 17/04/2018 14:58

*Also, what do they call adult human females?

Going by the LAT FB group, Cunts.*

Lol. Except not lol.

UrsulaPandress · 17/04/2018 15:01

Sorry but you've really made me laugh.

Maybe we should start referring to ourselves as cunts rather than women.

Havoc · 17/04/2018 15:03

How long before TRA are claiming they are cunts too?

PeterManYum · 17/04/2018 15:05

Havoc maybe soon it will be transphobic not to call TRAs cunts?

Havoc · 17/04/2018 15:06

I'm looking for someone to vote for next month. I note the trades unionist and socialist coalition are standing in my area, does anyone know their reputation on women's issues ?

TurningTables · 17/04/2018 15:09

We could rock up on the Spartacus thread saying "I am a cunt".

Weezol · 17/04/2018 15:11

Without Lab I've got a choice between LD or Green. This is such a Labour heartland that the Tories aren't even contesting the seat.

FencingFightingTorture35 · 17/04/2018 15:17

Well, bye Labour. It was nice knowing you. I was a fervent supporter of yours until all of this. No more.

RosenbergW · 17/04/2018 15:19

Do you think they released this now as a virtue signal in response to the grassroots conservatives statement against self ID?

SirVixofVixHall · 17/04/2018 15:26

@TurningTables @Winewinewinegin Absolutely.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/04/2018 15:28

I'm very surprised that they stated it quite so clearly given that TIMs (Trans-identifying males) with no GRC (gender reassignment certificate) on AWS (all-women shortlists) is probably illegal.

flowersonthepiano · 17/04/2018 15:28

I dunno. I am still a member (just). Wrote to my MP, who is not a Corbynite, a few weeks ago. I've yet to have a response. I may follow up based on this. She was selected via an AWS, and I did mention that in my first letter...

SirVixofVixHall · 17/04/2018 15:30

If the Conservatives talk any sense on this I will be voting for them, for the first time ever. I will not vote for any party who doesn’t care about the safety , privacy and rights of women and girls. I’ve begun to think that politicians in general hate women.

Anyone know what Jess Phillips thinks of all this ? She seems a decent person, with integrity.

LangCleg · 17/04/2018 15:37

I hate to say it but you'll likely be disappointed. Gender affirmation is the one thing the Corbynites and the centrists can actually bond over.

Popchyk · 17/04/2018 15:46

I'm also a bit surprised by the wording. I would have expected a bit more obfuscation around it.

Very clear that those males who do not have a GRC are able to be on All-Women Shortlists in the Labour Party.

It seems like this should be quite a simple case, no? It is a single issue, not complicated and shouldn't take long to get to court.

Be very interesting. Not that I care a whit about Labour any more, but I'd really like to know how a court would rule on this. Because this sort of casual dismissal of women's spaces has far-reaching effects beyond Labour's back yard.

Havoc · 17/04/2018 16:01

It will be interesting to see if the number of TIM included on AWS represent the proportion of TIM in the population.

It will be interesting to hear what the Labour party are doing to insure TIF are included in decision making.

CackleCrackle · 17/04/2018 16:14

it's slightly worrying to share any concerns with grass roots tories!
Casual dismissal of women's spaces though - exactly.

Ereshkigal · 17/04/2018 16:18

So from the update JJ posted which I received by email, she seemed to be saying they were now going to proceed with legal action, is that right? Haven't been on social media much today.

Sarahconnor1 · 17/04/2018 16:37

No discussion or debate nicely illustrates the utter contempt the labour party now hold for womans opinions experiences and concerns. I know some people argue to stay and fight from within, but that is frankly pointless now. i wont be voting for a party that doesnt represent me.

Hopefully i will have an independent candidate I can vote for. Otherwise it cartoons and slogans for me.

Sarahconnor1 · 17/04/2018 16:43

Ereshkigal yes it looks like Jennifer is meeting with legals next week with a view to starting court proceedings

TheCrowFromBelow · 17/04/2018 16:55

Gah.
I will not be voting Tory either with their rape clause for child benefit.
Everyone seems to hate women.
