Doesn’t this have have the potential to rugby’s operation Yewtree? People need to start using that word and mentioning the Saville inquiry and the impact it’s had on the BBC. No-one is invincible.

Bumble I am so sorry and wish that justice could be done.
There must be decent people in the IRFU and UR.

Well. I was brought up in a poor Catholic household in a Catholic town in Mid Ulster and this case is another reason I'm glad about that!! We all had nothing - we are as common as muck!!!

But our community is so strong!! I would HATE to belong to another community rather her ham my nationalist one. I love mine. The oppressed always have qualities that are superior to the oppressors'...it simply stands to reason.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 08/04/2018 20:59

Oops...rather than mine!! Literacy obviously isn't one of our excellent qualities!!!😉

summacummamumma · 08/04/2018 22:09

LastGirlOnTheLeft...you emphasised the fact that you are catholic? Is your religion important for that statement? Do you see yourself as oppressed? In what way?

Badgerthebodger · 08/04/2018 22:57

Last what are you on about? Are you making a badly worded point or are you being a dick on a very serious thread about rape?

Totallymyownperson · 08/04/2018 23:00

Last girl on the left
Please don't think I am having a go at Catholics but all communities have at some point colluded or simply turned a blind eye to sexual abuse including catholic communities such as peodophile priests.

bluebell1981 · 08/04/2018 23:12

I hope last is joking (no idea why on thus thread though.....). I'm from the same community background and utterly ashamed to be at times given the extent of misogyny and abuse within it.

bluebell1981 · 08/04/2018 23:12

this** thread

dinosaurkisses · 08/04/2018 23:18

Lastgirl- are you serious?

The Catholic Church covered up mother and baby homes, rape, child abuse, ran industrial schools, Magdalene Launderies. I could go on.

If you want to start about oppressed groups coming together, why don’t you start with the biggest and historically group that has even been oppressed- women.

TheCraicDealer · 09/04/2018 00:16

Yeah let's not make a shitty situation worse by bringing sectarianism into it. There's many facets to this case but genuinely I do not think that that has anything to do with it.

buckeejit · 09/04/2018 07:16

I think last might be under the impression that it wouldn't happen in her tight knit community. I feel the same sort of attachment to my poor Protestant community but it can happen here and it can happen there and it does happen anywhere -irrespective of perceived community values.

buckeejit · 09/04/2018 07:18

Sorry that sounded a bit Dr Seuss 😬. My point being that when something like this happens, everyone in that community is usually shocked & thinks I can't believe it happened here.

Step · 09/04/2018 08:37

LastGirlOnTheLeft why bring that one up? It's clearly a one eyed view on things as this crap goes on no matter what community. Don't cod yourself. The abortion debate down south with its constant references to rape victims is testament to the fact that religion does not suddenly act as an anti rape panacea. I could easily argue that the Catholic church has wilfully oppressed women for years - Magdalene laundries anyone? www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/religion-and-beliefs/catholic-priests-call-for-talks-on-equality-for-women-1.2414201

Please don't try and make this one a community based issue, it's not. NI, and I'll argue Ireland (although the South seem to be making more progress of late) is a deeply misogynistic society. Both sides of the divide..... Can we unite behind what clearly is a deeper issue in the North.
Back to the subject. PJ and co, top shaggers. I have a feeling now talking from to some CI rugby types, that we're actually getting heard now. Feeling there may be some progress.

sashh · 09/04/2018 09:16

Well this is depressing - 2000 people want them back playing rugby.

NotTakenUsername · 09/04/2018 09:35

This is not a religious issue. It is not a political issue. It is not men vs women. It is not women vs men.

It is the whole country, north and south vs misogyny.

Let’s hope the judge lifts the media ban today to further expose these men and their appalling misogynistic ‘antics’.

Heart goes out to all the rugby fans who defended Paddy Jackson's awful messages as just 'banter' and now find themselves cast in opposition by their hero who now describes them as "degrading and offensive"

Such cognitive dissonance
Much confusion

sashh 2000 is not a big number for an online petition. I’m very pleased Belfast Telegraph didn’t link the petition (although I’d be interested to see if it has gathered more signatures or not).
