God knows I am accepting, tolerant and open-minded, but if this is our future www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/outrage-transgender-prisoner-living-woman-12022675 then I am truly afraid.

I have known various people who now identify as women and vice versa and the vast, vast majority have no intention of behaving in any way to draw unwanted attention to themselves or to upset the status quo.

IMVHO there seems to be two evolving types - the totally self obsessed delusional - realised that being LBG was now no more unusual than having blonde hair - being gay no longer warranted being a protected characteristic in the UK - and wanted more. Wanted to be special, wanted to be the Only Trans in the Village - the attention screaming Loooook at MEEEEEEEEEE..

And there are others abusing the 'white female privilege (confused)' who will no doubt resort to their birth gender when no longer a trans athlete/offender/rapist/activist, the upkeep of being an invisible female over the age of 60 becomes too onerous and our gender has served its purpose.

I just wish women would wake up (angry).

I'm so fucking sick of these articles...what is wrong with people? Even the paper referring to him as "she" is wrong. He's a bloke, with a penis, and needs to be treated as such.

@Freshlylaidterf - not being a regular reader of the Mirror, strangely, I came across the article when I googled the Youtube shooter......

This gentleman seems less clear cut - he is non-gender? But why is he now a non-gender she? If he is keeping his tackle, (and using it) why not remain a non-gender he? How would he be treated in England as a SI non-gender? How would he be treated in Scotland?

It’s so shocking that in the prison, it’s the male prisoner who claims to be a woman who’s in charge, not the prison officers. This can’t be a good precedent to set, can it?

Sorry, when I say treated, I mean if he committed a serious crime and was sentenced to imprisonment. Where would he be sent?

And the Eddie Izzard autobiography womens' toilet trauma is just bizarre in the way he is viewed as being the victim. He was scared to use the gents as he thought he would be beaten up as a transvestite, so used the ladies toilets - as a man dressed as a female - as any women in there would not dare to criticise him and if they did, unlikely to cause him serious physical harm. He did not count on the feisty North London schoolgirls though. But my mother would have been very afraid and countless other women too, finding this man in his dress & heels in their private space.

Sorry, I am ranting now :o

I have so many questions - I feel that I have just woken up, but why is it taking our politicians to long to do the same?

As a trans woman I entirely agree. This kind of thing increasingly shows why self ID would create problems if it happens without the existing gatekeeping.

We should not be removing proper medical and psychiatric assessment in favour of someone just saying so.

We have to have a degree of confidence in the sincerity and mental stability of someone asking for such a major step in recognition from the rest of society.

Trust has to be earned, not granted on presumption.

If you are genuinely transsexual then I can see no reason why you would not want doctors to assess and advise on the proper course of action.

If you want to skip that and just express your personality differently, then okay do so, but the law should not treat that as more than self expression.

I have googled and all the news articles refer to is how unusual it is for a woman to commit such a crime. If they’re transgender then the narrative it totally fucked.

As far as I can see this is just another example of someone pretending they are trans in order to get something they want. Maybe I'll do that too. I could pretend to be a bloke then I'll get paid more.

I feel like I’m waiting for some one to come along and say ‘ha! It’s all been a shit joke!’

I tried talking to another mum over coffee who was a big shot in pharmaceutical (so would hazard a guess she was marginally intelligent) and she had no idea what I was talking about. I sounded like a fucking loon explaining why I was reposting articles on facebook about it.

She is completely oblivious to it.

Saying that a couple of years back I posted an article on FGM and no one like it or commented - I posted a cheese pie recipe just as a piss take a few hours later and got 14 likes...

Is it too early to open the gin...

I particularly hate this dismissiveness:

The women inmates have had to accept that Stewart is being allowed to live as a woman, despite not having had surgery.
That means she is in the showers at the same time as other inmates, which some have found quite awkard.

Why is this person "pretending to be trans"? How would we know? The accepted definition of transgender used for public policy accepts men like this. They are as "transgender" as any other.
