This deserves its own thread: straight couple get married. But she identifies as gay.

The pair have been in a queer, polyamorous relationship for 12 years. Nico identifies as pansexual while Bethany identifies as gay.

This is not the only woman I've come across in a heterosexual relationship who identifies as queer or gay or something that isn't 'boring white straight person'.

And while it's not okay to appropriate black experiences or exploit other peoples' cultures for LOLs, it's perfectly okay for straight people to piggyback off gay culture because we're all genderfluid now.

Fuck off

That whole article reads like a bumper edition of Pseud’s Corner.

MrGHardy · 20/03/2018 17:54

Saw this on Twitter. They're all nutters.

ElspethFlashman · 20/03/2018 17:56

I think this is hipster for "we're both bisexual in an open marriage"

OvaHere · 20/03/2018 17:59

Being in a heterosexual marriage or relationship is too boring now.

Especially since being 'queer' became relatively safe and socially accepted.

It's wearing the struggle of marginalised groups like a piece of jewellery.

joystir59 · 20/03/2018 18:01

Anyone can marry anyone of course. But lesbians are sexually attracted to other women so I assume the woman in this couple is either not having sex with the man she has married or having sex she finds revolting with the man she has married

Tralalee · 20/03/2018 18:02

I give it a year.

smithsinarazz · 20/03/2018 18:02

Interesting- this doesn't upset me in the slightest. It's a bit putting-on-airs-to-be-interesting but that's all. But then, I'm not gay, so it's not for me to say whether this is colonising gay space.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2018 18:03

Do words now speak louder than actions

CAAKE · 20/03/2018 18:03

Is there a sardonically raised eyebrow emoticon?

Here you go - 🤨

thanksjaneshusbandatcaresouth · 20/03/2018 18:03

ah, she looks really pretty though.

All the best to both of them.

PavlovaPrincess · 20/03/2018 18:06

The comments underneath that article make me want to gouge my eyes out.

Everyone spouting on about 'labels' and who or what the couple might 'identify' as, with everyone trying to be as right on as possible when all it really is, is 'Man and Woman get married'.

Fekko · 20/03/2018 18:06

If she's gay how come she is married to a man? Unless she says she is a gay man. Either way, those photos made me laugh, so I thank them for that.

TammyWhyNot · 20/03/2018 18:08

Maybe her polyamorous activities are with a woman.

Maybe she and Nico are in an asexual marriage with each other, or just too busy dressing up.

Who knows?

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 20/03/2018 18:09

Is she trying to identify as more interesting than she actually is?

Time40 · 20/03/2018 18:10

Maybe I could self-identify as a gay man (perhaps on a Friday) and then I can have the civil partnership I want.

VioletteValentia · 20/03/2018 18:13

Some people use “gay” as an all encompassing term for non straight.

I’m bisexual, and in a relationship with a man. I wouldn’t say it’s a “queer” relationship though. It’s a straight relationship with one person who happens to be bisexual.

joystir59 · 20/03/2018 18:13

I don't self identify as a lesbian, I am one because I fit the definition of lesbian

miri1985 · 20/03/2018 18:14

So you give yourself multiple labels and then claim "labels help people understand, but not labels that define us". I don't think anyone asked if they're polyamorous, I think they volunteered to publicise that themselves.

Anyone else anticipating a lot more of this in Hollywood since the inclusion rider became a thing?

ElenOfTheWays · 20/03/2018 18:31

I don't understand why they thought their marriage (whether straightforward hetero or not) would be at all interesting to anyone except themselves and their loved ones.

I personally don't care at all.

And, I'm sorry but he looks a right dick in that crown. Grin

Fekko · 20/03/2018 18:33

Two letters 'P' and 'R'.

I'd never heard/seen either of them before this thread!

Doobigetta · 20/03/2018 18:33

You have FEET OF CLAY, Elen. I for one am truly moved by the royalness and awesome beauty of it all.

Fekko · 20/03/2018 18:36

Feh, the Beckham wedding meets game of thrones.

ElenOfTheWays · 20/03/2018 18:39

Ah. What do I know Doobigetta? I just married some bloke. Grin fell off my pedestal years ago

Boulshired · 20/03/2018 18:43

The LGBT might as well add the H along with all the others as anyone can claim to be pan sexual or bi sexual, even those who only have partners that have the opposite anatomy. It just words.
