Amy, the architect and hero of ManFriday has been invited on Good Morning Britain this morning. As far as we know the interview will be 7:40am. Please tune in.

I’ll take one for the team and watch from now, updating the thread when I see she comes on Grin as it’s the very least I can do considering she is going up against Piers Morgan and Peter Tatchell.

Good luck to her!

Well done Amy!!! Anyone got a link so I can watch? 😊

EllieMe · 19/03/2018 09:42

So much love for Amy.

Weebo · 19/03/2018 09:43

Yetanother, look, this was a nice wee thread cheering on someone who put herself out there for what she/we believe in.

You came along and said 'actually you did that wrong'.

Did you really think people wouldn't get annoyed about that?

Elendon · 19/03/2018 09:44

This debate is also relevant to trans people if it makes our lives more difficult and leads to abuse on the streets because people see that interview and decide to take actions into their own hands.

I have read your thread on AIBU.

Take this debate back to that thread. You are hijacking this thread which I find disturbing.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 19/03/2018 09:44

Janes need to knit is because she can’t control herself.
Jane is not a good person.

What we need is the men to start getting it and the genuine transgender community being supported to safely speak up.
Then we can look at helping up our lesbian sisters who’ve been totally ground down by these bullying bastards.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 19/03/2018 09:46

Oh and we’re not making your lives more difficult. We are the only peeps helping you so far, we’re fighting for you too.... if you are genuinely who you say you are.
So point your finger of aggression in the correct direction.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 19/03/2018 09:47

THAt was for yet

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 19/03/2018 09:48

Here's Jane, knitting away

Isn't that racist, biologically determinist wool they're using? Or am I getting lost amidst all the strawladies

LangCleg · 19/03/2018 09:50

This debate is also relevant to trans people if it makes our lives more difficult and leads to abuse on the streets because people see that interview and decide to take actions into their own hands.

Mate, if you keep going like this all that will happen is that women withdraw support from transsexuals too.

Amy's action is about self-ID. It has been extraordinarily successful. Every post you make shows that you - you, not the self-ID mob - feel threatened by that. You need to reflect on why that is.

And I'll say it again. I don't care if you feel threatened. I didn't lump you in with the crossdressers. Neither did Amy. Take your derailments to those who did.

VivaKondo · 19/03/2018 09:56

YetAnother I get why you are worried about the backlash for you, as a transwoman, who, I imagine, doesn’t cause any problem at all to women around her. Or at least is sure/convinced she doesn’t.

I would like to highlight though that it is clear that sometimes want seems to be best for transwomen and transmen are at odds with what is best for women and men.
The changing rooms issue is one of them. So is the idea that you can come to work as a man one day and as a woman another (see the issue with he Police. How can we accept that a transwoman can physically search a woman one day because she is coming to work as a woman but not the next because they are coming as a man?? There are a few examples of that already!!)
You can’t expect women to protect themselves whilst also protecting transwomen if our aims are different.

I think this highlighted how bonkers the self identification is. Until now, men had no issue with it at all. It didn’t affect them! Now that they can see how they can and will be made uncomfortable too, they aren’t so happy.
Maybe this will then lead to a law that will be more balanced in its approach. Getting rid of self assessment would be one good step.

I have to say I’m also Hmm at the fact that few (.??) of those men’s comments have elicited a ‘you are transphobic’ when women saying the same thing are getting so much abuse from every angle (trans people, men etc...)
Another sign of the male privilege I suppose....

Elendon · 19/03/2018 10:00

Here's another video showing Fae's views on the GRA.

VivaKondo · 19/03/2018 10:00

Btw well done to Amy
I hope she will see this thread!
I wouldnt have had the guts. But this is probably one of the best way ever to show how self Id is something totally impractical and leaves the door wide open to abuse.
WELL DONE

DontCisgenderMe · 19/03/2018 10:03

Just watched this on catch up. Well done Amy! You were great, so calm and clear. Well done for getting a mention of the petition in there too!

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/03/2018 10:06

Sweary. Thanks for the info and for all you’re doing to support women.
Well done Amy. You’re a star and an amazing woman!!

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/03/2018 10:06

Amy you were fab

Jane on the other hand made herself look a complete idiot she made no sense at all and even her own example tripped her up.

Stuffofawesome · 19/03/2018 10:10

Bravo Amy.

2rebecca · 19/03/2018 10:12

Excellent well done Amy, just watched it on catch up although had to change my postcode to an English one to do so and wait for the endless adverts to finish. You came across really well.

Juells · 19/03/2018 10:19

Here's Jane, knitting away:

Watching the first 1:50 of that video I was reminded of descriptions of Steve McQueen, who was notorious for scene-stealing.

Jane is never still, there's non-stop 'business' so that one's eyes are drawn away from the main speaker. Flips pages, clicks pen, messes with paper, wags pen, raises water bottle and examines it, drinks, moves around, then finally out comes the knitting.

Ekphrasis · 19/03/2018 10:24

In both those clips it's really noticeable that JF avoids eye contact, rolls eyes pulls faces while JB and MY give warm smiles to each other and JB to JF.

The free speech clip was the first time I really 'got' why free, respectful debate is important v no platforming and found myself actually quite warming to MYConfused as a result of the ability to discuss honestly. And to be fair, at least JF engages in debate. The body language always strikes me however.

Ekphrasis · 19/03/2018 10:27

It all says "ffs, what's all this fuss, it was sorted out years ago, you're all being silly, this is unnecessary, im not listening, I don't really want to be here, I'm bored."

LabourLostMe · 19/03/2018 10:36

Well done Amy Star

I don't usually watch GMB and was shocked to see Piers Morgan harassing Susanna Reid telling her she should touch him, it was disgusting to witness.

CadyHeron · 19/03/2018 10:36

Trans is the new puberty, India Willoughby told us this. It makes middle aged former men into 15 year old girls so we have to be patient with them until they reach full womanhood

Whaaaaa? Said as a joke right?! Please tell me that was said as a joke.

Weebo · 19/03/2018 10:39

I was finally able to watch on catch up just now.

Amy, you were marvelous. Cool as a cucumber.

conservativeuterus · 19/03/2018 10:40

How can I watch on catchup?

ShotsFired · 19/03/2018 10:42
