Relevant section:

Meanwhile, a woman who criticised a transgender charity on Twitter has been questioned under caution by police and told she will be arrested if she tries to leave the country. Kellie-Jay Keen- Minshull accused the group Mermaids of “suppressing free speech”.

She had accused Mermaids, which calls for children to be allowed irreversible sex-change treatment the NHS currently prohibits, of “prey[ing]” on gay teenagers and of “mass child abuse”. Mermaids declined to comment.

Ans the crowdfunder RT

twitter.com/KTHopkins/status/980609836684644353

Melamin · 03/04/2018 14:29

It got 1.2K retweets, which is a lot more that usual.

SimonBridges · 03/04/2018 14:31

I don’t want to be in with Katie Hopkins and her crowd though. I think this is where the ‘wrong side of history’ worry is coming from.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/04/2018 14:34

Yep I don’t want to be associated with KH.
I did fleetingly for about 30 seconds ago hope someone along those lines would propel our cause into the press but I talked myself back down straight away.

KH is a racist, misogynistic, xenophobic bigot she doesn’t represent me and I can’t imagine she represents PP.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/04/2018 14:35

For about 30 seconds a few weeks ago*

MrsJoshDun · 03/04/2018 14:35

I sincerely hope Crowdfunder don’t take the appeal down.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/04/2018 14:35

Neither do I Simon but if anyone can bring attention to an issue it's her.

And this madness needs to be brought to the attention of 'normal' people.

MrsJoshDun · 03/04/2018 14:37

As far as KH is concerned a stopped clock is wrong twice a day.

Yes, she’s a vile racist and I would have concerns that she’s simply transphobic and homophobic but maybe, just maybe she’s concerned about the erosion of women.

Winewinewinegin · 03/04/2018 14:38

This will raise visibility but won't help promote a nuanced, respectful debate. The way Labour (and the Original report) have approached this is hugely irresponsible IMO. Discussing things properly rather than shutting things down leaves far less oxygen for those who don't do nuance and respect so well.

Melamin · 03/04/2018 14:41

There are a lot of messages for the 2nd April and they all look fine and above board. Is there someone behind scenes filtering out the anti- messages like the ones posted on the JJ crowdfunder?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/04/2018 14:43

I don't agree wine. The fact is that she happens to agree with our position on this, and there is nothing we can do to shut her up.

It doesn't mean we have to agree with her or align ourselves with her on her other views.

We can outline the logical, scientific arguments and hope that sensible people will understand them.

Winewinewinegin · 03/04/2018 14:48

I agree with all you say on your post Assigned, and have made similar points on the JRM thread.

OldCrone · 03/04/2018 14:53

The downside to this is that if debate is now allowed, they might pitch the Katie Hopkins/ Jacob Rees Mogg view against the TRAs. So you will get a debate, but the feminist view will still not get heard.

Ereshkigal · 03/04/2018 15:02

Discussing things properly rather than shutting things down leaves far less oxygen for those who don't do nuance and respect so well.

So true. I've said this time and time again, re street grooming gangs etc as well as this. People don't stop having feelings just because they're not allowed to talk about something. They're just more poorly informed about them.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/04/2018 15:10

Yes I suppose we can agree but not align.
Hopefully a bit of googling about the topic will bring people to these boards and to talk about it elsewhere.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/04/2018 15:13

The downside to this is that if debate is now allowed, they might pitch the Katie Hopkins/ Jacob Rees Mogg view against the TRAs. So you will get a debate, but the feminist view will still not get heard.

That is a worry.
If their view points on this don’t get written off as crackpot right wing views but rather discussions about freedom of speech and liberty then hopefully other people will be brought into the debate.

KH sickens me, I’ve swung back and forth on hating the idea of her getting involved with it. I don’t know where I’ll end up sitting with this.

SuitedandBooted · 03/04/2018 15:27

I'm not sure about this too. Yes, she's not someone I would particularly like to have for a friend (!), and yes, I would prefer it if this was picked up and championed by someone with a less extreme stance....

BUT, she has 848K followers.......

Does Mumsnet have a "conflicted" emoticon?!

Melamin · 03/04/2018 16:11

At the end of the day, things go out into the public domain, get picked up and retweeted etc, and there is nothing much you can do about it, other than to hope for the best. Sort of like children Confused

Melamin · 03/04/2018 16:16

It is probably a bit late to attach the petition - I am not sure what her support is like in Leicester East.

Datun · 03/04/2018 19:09

I can't believe they are this stupid!

Shutting down a crowd funder that was set up in defence of free speech???

The media will have absolute field day with this.

People who've never even heard of the trans issue will be all over it.

Their relentless own goals are never ending.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/04/2018 19:22

Update from @PosieParker:

"Hi there,

I had no idea, but am pleased to learn, that you all get an update email when I update here!

This morning I had a disappointing email from Crowdfunder explaining that in their very murky T&Cs is the condition that if something is related to a criminal investigation it's not allowed.

Three things may happen in two days time, either you'll get a full refund, my campaign will close and I will use another secure account (like a charities account) to keep funds or this campaign will remain as is until it officially ends in 34 days. Under their own rules it's unlikely to be a refund as it's neither illegal or regulated.

The criminal investigation into me is over, it's a CPS matter.

I am determined to keep campaigning for free speech and for children's rights to grow up without needless medical interventions.

I hope this clears up any questions anyone has.

Have a super week, I'll keep you posted."

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 04/04/2018 09:33

I just had a look at my emails this morning and was just about to post that @BoreOfWhabylon, thank you.

This is disgusting.

Juells · 04/04/2018 10:28

I just had a look at my emails this morning

Flipping cheek :(

SpringNowPlease2018 · 04/04/2018 10:52

Posie saying "The criminal investigation into me is over, it's a CPS matter" - I'm not clear on the law here, I wonder if anyone can help? If the CPS still have it on their list as a matter, then surely some kind of investigation or possible charge is still afoot?

This is beyond Orwellian and also not being reported.
