Meanwhile, a woman who criticised a transgender charity on Twitter has been questioned under caution by police and told she will be arrested if she tries to leave the country. Kellie-Jay Keen- Minshull accused the group Mermaids of “suppressing free speech”.

She had accused Mermaids, which calls for children to be allowed irreversible sex-change treatment the NHS currently prohibits, of “prey[ing]” on gay teenagers and of “mass child abuse”. Mermaids declined to comment.

I don't often pop my head over the wall here (doing positive stuff elsewhere for this, and for the record I am not anti-trans, respect the right for all people to be treated with dignity, but I am anti-erosion of female and women's rights). I am appalled at the O'Brien interview. I am saddened by what's happening but also raging. Just wanted to make an interesting point re Fox Fisher.

One of their latest retweets is an implied horror about the Kinder Egg stereotypical 'gendering' to pink and blue.

This is where ther illogicality rises - this is a theme that I've seen many posters on Mumsnet fight against for many years. Pink 'girly' does not mean 'girl' etc. Stop squashing people back into stereotypes of behaviours. We've been fighting for the right for people not to be forced into boxes determined by social stereotyping for years.

And yet O'Brien and seemingly Fox are at the same time also mocking women who do so and squashing people into boxes of 'gender' to enable some people to 'trans' to the other box (which seems entirely filled with Kinder-girl/boy-egg stereotype roles from all that I can see).

This. Makes. No. Sense. Posie, I stand with you.

That James interview was sickening.

He starts off explaining that trans children just prefer playing with things and wearing things that are usually associated with the opposite sex. So how awful it is to be against that. Why not allow children to be free and play with and do what they want?
See.... He just. Does. Not. Get. It.

No one wants to stop boys liking pink dolls! These boys need to be encouraged to do these things as boys not be told they're really girls.

As for the rest of it... he basically admits he does not have a problem with transwomen in women's spaces because he does not believe women should have a problem with men in women's spaces.

I actually couldn't listen to it. It was so annoying because he didn't understand the issue at all (as pombear and padodp have mentioned) but he wouldn't shut his stupid fucking mouth for five seconds so he might actually learn something.

Wow, that radio clip! James O Brien doesn't let Posie speak at all, he keeps saying 'I really want to try and understand where you're coming from' but then every time she starts talking he interrupts her.

I would so love to know if JOB would be willing to have sex with a transwoman or suck a 'lady dick'. I know that sounds so crass, but honestly, if women are being expected to accept them as women then men should be fully accepting of them as women as well, which would mean the likes of JOB would be willing to do the above. Its actually a really important question. My bet is that he would run a mile, but I could be wrong.

My take on some men on the left that rise to positions of influence, ie the O'Briens etc.

Narcissists who love the sound of their own voice and wish to have access to women who think they're caring individuals. Obnoxious, but wearing the fashion/ideas of someone they know women would admire (superficially).

Watch carefully though and you see they will not change their mindset on anything and you will be lucky if you get a word in edgeways, let alone heard.

I don't think those men like women, unless they're the adoring, worshiping sort of "tell us oh wise guru".

A more succinct description would be : dishonest.
