Relevant section:

Meanwhile, a woman who criticised a transgender charity on Twitter has been questioned under caution by police and told she will be arrested if she tries to leave the country. Kellie-Jay Keen- Minshull accused the group Mermaids of “suppressing free speech”.

She had accused Mermaids, which calls for children to be allowed irreversible sex-change treatment the NHS currently prohibits, of “prey[ing]” on gay teenagers and of “mass child abuse”. Mermaids declined to comment.

pallisers I totally agree with you. As yet I have not written to my MP, because I wanted to just focus on one aspect, to see what her response is. I thought about sport, as my DP is involved in women's sport. But I think the saddest thing is the medical transitioning of children.
The damage will be irreparable
This is fucking tragic.
Sadly my very decent MP will probably follow the party line, so she doesn't get de-selected by fucking momentum bro's

CapnHaddock

As far as I know Jackie Green was put into residential care for a while.

Susie Green talked about it in an article, I believe in the Daily Mail.

SmurfOrTerf · 11/03/2018 22:55

Datun Shock
I didn't know that about Mermaids coming on here and outing parents,
that is awful.
Wouldn't that be a data protection issue ?
Someone should also put in a complaint about SG's friend in the police, surely that is an abuse of their position ?

MrsJoshDun · 11/03/2018 23:03

Think I’ve totally peak transed dh.

Part of me hopes the cps prosecutes Posie so there’s a court case and media attention. Because I don’t think a court would ever find her guilty and I think any media attention would be massively negative for Mermaids and maybe make people sit up and pay attention and do something to stop other children having this happen to them.

But obviously that wouldn’t be nice for Posie. Dh doesn’t think the CPS will want to move forward with this at all.

It was awful. They tried to discredit the woman. The post was deleted pretty quickly, though.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/03/2018 23:09

And we all know who it would have been doing it too

CapnHaddock · 11/03/2018 23:14

@Datun - I didn't know that. I didn't read the DM article thoroughly. Jackie must have crammed a lot into their 11th year then

SmurfOrTerf · 11/03/2018 23:22

Thanks Datun.
I'm sure The Times article will be re-hashed in the Mail, and probably a few other papers.
I hope they also show some TRA tweets, so Joe Public see what the TRA are.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/03/2018 23:26

I remember that thread Datun

It was awful

Waves to that poster, who I'm sure still is here Flowers

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 23:27

Ah I remember the thread with the mermaid outing, datun.

A woman was sharing her negative experience with them re her own child, someone who knew her from mermaids came on and used her name in the reply they wrote - telling all of us how she was a liar cause mermaids are only stunning and brave, and never anything even vaguely negative.

Funnily enough, mners didn't react well to it and rallied around the outed woman, and mnhq deleted and banned the mermaid pdq.

I wonder if she is still here...?

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 23:28

X post, assigned! Grin

Terftastic · 11/03/2018 23:56

This is terrifying. I am honestly terrified - wtf is going on??

Posie - Solidarity to you, I'm sorry this is happening, and I applaud your bravery in the face of it.

Will also donate yo your, and any women's, legal fees to fight this.

ArcheryAnnie · 12/03/2018 00:03

Is anyone else thinking about handing themselves in to the police for thought crimes if Posie is charged (and if Posie doesn't object to us doing so)?

ijustwannadance · 12/03/2018 00:05

It just baffles me that someone could be so homophobic that they would convince their own child that they were the wrong sex and must transition.

Yet these women are seen as heros.

The bullshit about no therapy or counselling is the worst part.
If a kid says they are trans you must not question it at all. Fuck the fact that there could be any underlying mental health issues/trauma/abuse/attention seeking/peer pressure/normal bloody puberty/could just be gay.

WooWooSister · 12/03/2018 00:06

I'd donate to legal fees too.
I must admit I am vaguely amused by the Mermaids' supporter on this thread trying to distract us with shiny alternative feminist issues. Completely oblivious to the fact that MN is full of women who have been campaigning on women's issues across the globe for decades. That's how we can easily spot MRAs; TRAs; bullies and gfs.

SmurfOrTerf · 12/03/2018 00:11

Annie - I could do that

I might actually re-read 1984 and list all my crimes

I have some free time on my hands Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 12/03/2018 00:15

I must admit I am vaguely amused by the Mermaids' supporter on this thread trying to distract us with shiny alternative feminist issues.

Could they make it any more obvious that they don't actually care about any other issues, they just want us to shut up?

We're not going to shut up, so get used to it. There are millions of us, and you can't silence us all.

SmurfOrTerf · 12/03/2018 00:21

Angry - its funny how they can only manage a few posts before they run away

MarSeeAh · 12/03/2018 00:30

Is anyone else thinking about handing themselves in to the police for thought crimes if Posie is charged (and if Posie doesn't object to us doing so)?

Yes, I was thinking of doing that. It would be good if we could organise ourselves to do it in groups, and publicise it.

littlequoll · 12/03/2018 00:57

It is really disturbing that for boys, liking things labeled by our culture as feminine (ie liking girl's stuff) is so taboo that there is a movement to have boys who break these unspoken rules permanently physically altered. (For comparison, when was the last time someone tried to sex-change a girl because she liked wearing shorts and playing with toy cars?) Then for the authorities to intimidate and place restrictions on someone who dares to question this really concerning movement... I am gobsmacked.

ShovingLeopard · 12/03/2018 01:05

Am disgusted at the police action, and will totally chip in with the crowdfunder. If required, I think we should all help as much as possible so Posie can get the the most shit hot barrister possible, to wipe the floor with them.

I didn't know anything about Susie Green before reading this thread. I'm somewhat baffled that the WYP are so kiss-arse with her, given she took her child abroad for treatment that would be illegal here. Surely that is an offence? Did she ever get investigated or charged for that? If not, why not?

thebewilderness · 12/03/2018 01:32

She started a charity and gives the police free things. I guess it doesn't take much.

I'm curious about this as well. Is she wealthy/connected? Are these 'abroad' surgeries expensive? It is astonishing that she was able to do this to her child and not be investigated. And now she has the police at the beck and call, really? How is this happening?!

AngryAttackKittens · 12/03/2018 03:16

Having the police threaten someone with charges because she made factually correct statements on Twitter (yes, reassignment surgery on males involves castration, wtf do they think the surgeon does with the balls?) because one of our officers is friends with the Mermaids CEO's son and you can't say bad things about our mate's mum or we'll bully you into shutting up...this is banana republic levels of police corruption. How is this being allowed to happen in the UK?
