Just that really!

There is quite a lot of theoretical stuff on the board.

High School drop out. Circa 1962.

And that leads to my second question. There seem to be lots of Americans too.

I was for a while (6 years lecturing) - now research scientist in R&D outfit for large organisation. Quite glad to have got out of higher ed when I did - I don't like the way universities have gone in the 15 years or so since I left. I got on very well with most of my students, but I had a take-no-prisoners attitude to sloppy thinking and indiscipline (I used to kick students out of lectures if they talked) which I don't think would go down well these days.

Lemonjello · 09/03/2018 20:24

Not in a theoretical subject at all though.

CarcerDun · 09/03/2018 20:25

I'm a reader rather than a poster, I have a post graduate degree and enjoy the well constructed ideas on here. I'm a Brit.

PastaOfMuppets · 09/03/2018 20:26

I'm an academic but not a Brit or American

AstraiaLiberty · 09/03/2018 20:27

MA student. Hopefully a future academic.

I left school at 16, after several years of very low attendance. Started university at almost 30 after many years of worthwhile but low-paid caring work. I began reading second-wave feminist theory as a teenager, though. I've always been quite academically-minded - just hated school as an institution!

Guess I should say I have an English literature degree. Then law. Seeing as I am being nosey and all.

“Started university at almost 30 after many years of worthwhile but low-paid caring work.’

Cool (both the work and the uni)

Not an academic but I do have a BSc from a decent university. Critical thinking is a sadly unappreciated skill these days

ChattyLion · 09/03/2018 20:37

No and no Smile

Patodp · 09/03/2018 20:39

Nope.
I was a prostitute. In between loads of other really shit low paid jobs.
Now I'm a full time sahm.

HerFemaleness · 09/03/2018 20:40

I don't think that many of the regulars here are academics. I do think that they are experts though by virtue of having studied the topic extensively for years.

Oswin · 09/03/2018 20:42

No left school at at 15. Managed to get a gcse and maths functional skills. It's not that I don't enjoy learning, I do. I was just having a hard time. That's why I love it here. Even though I have failed at life I still get to engage and learn from some really bloody clever feminists.

malaguena · 09/03/2018 20:45

I am sort of. Hoping to start a post-doc later this year on a topic that includes some gender studies. I read the threads but don't comment much, the amazing women on here are much more clued up than me! I always saw myself as a feminist but didn't really connect feminist theory with my own experiences. I went totally rad fem since I discovered this board.

thanksjaneshusbandatcaresouth · 09/03/2018 20:45

I like this!

cheminotte · 09/03/2018 20:47

I'm not a regular and I'm not an academic either.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 09/03/2018 23:31

I have a BA and I work in HE but not in an academic position.

LangCleg · 09/03/2018 23:34

Brit. BA. Work in a commercial area and not the academy.

4catsaremylife · 09/03/2018 23:41

BSc and MSc gained in late 40s after leaving school have just started applying for university jobs so you never know 🤞

OlennasWimple · 09/03/2018 23:47

I'm a Brit living overseas. Masters degree (in a very academic, navel-gazing subject) but not an academic now

KnitFastDieWarm · 09/03/2018 23:55

I’m an MA student who is trying to cone to terms with the fact that my gender critical views may mean I never work in my field Sad

See you all in the gulag sisters...

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 10/03/2018 00:04

Yep, I am, but not in a field remotely useful to feminism chat.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 10/03/2018 00:08

MA History student. Planning a postgrad in a gender related topic.

nNina22 · 10/03/2018 00:16

Yes
