Just that really!

There is quite a lot of theoretical stuff on the board.

Not an academic but I have postgrad distinctions in two related disciplines that I suppose are pretty relevant to both the pre and post trans feminist discussion, though I never had a strongly feminist focus. Frankly I still find a lot of stuff that is being discussed baffling. I can't work out if the discussion is regressing or progressing! But I think as much as theoretical knowledge can be very helpful at times, it can also be a huge hindrance that makes people cling too firmly to a position and ignore the practical and everyday reality of human experience. I think the trans question - from both sides of the coin - is a good example of this

TheFootOfMyStairs · 17/03/2018 02:09

Nope.

Just lived it.

watcheait · 23/08/2019 17:35

I'm an academic, have a PhD and am English.

High School drop out. Circa 1962.

Shock and only because there is no [awe] emoji.

I’ve lots to say, but it’s unintelligible. [hero]

Academic. Got my PhD at University of Glasgow and now teach in Germany (I am using my name so this is easy to find!)

DarkNoise · 23/08/2019 21:18

I am new to these boards. I have a doctorate, work for an arts organisation and I am an author. Earn very little and am not very successful. I need to start writing erotica or something more popular than Victorian party politics Hmm Hmm Hmm

DarkNoise · 23/08/2019 21:20

not very successful = translation in honest-speak = basically no one, a total failure and a professional disaster.

FWRLurker · 24/08/2019 01:02

Yes. I’m a biologist in us

Lamahaha · 24/08/2019 06:54

I dropped out of an MA course at Uni Sussex many years ago. I couldn't afford it any more and also had to care for a disabled husband. I never regretted it. I don't have an academic mind and found my own life experience and background far more useful that the study for my profession than the study of English Literature.
I was in my early 60s when I dropped out. I got a job and worked till retirement in 2017.

GirlDownUnder · 24/08/2019 06:58

DarkNoise blimey, you’re way too harsh on yourself!

Lamahaha · 24/08/2019 07:44

Anyway, while we’re here... I know ZOMBIE thread

Oooooops!

DarkNoise blimey, you’re way too harsh on yourself!

Agreed! The terms success and failure have to me long ago lost any meaning. It's how you live that counts!

quixote9 · 24/08/2019 10:11

Biologist. Uni prof for more years than I care to admit. Very glad to be out of it. Marketing and moneygrubbing are not compatible with learning or understanding.

wacademia · 24/08/2019 21:46

Yup. Tuition fees and the student as customer culture that followed has broken academia.

BSc STEM, lab tech in RG uni.

Creepster · 24/08/2019 22:11

I am back. This is my secret identity that I identify with on MN. I was not banned and so after working on my submissiveness for a few months I though I would come back to see if Feminism and misogyny are still considered by MN to be the two sides of the debate.

Creepster · 24/08/2019 22:12

Only on weekends though.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/08/2019 08:22

Oooh hello creepster. welcome back! Are you who I think you are?!
