Someone should ask how he would feel if his mum was in hospital, very unwell, wearing one of those awful hospital gowns and in a ward with a man in the bed opposite, ogling her every time she has to get out of bed. Maybe then he would understand what self-ID means for women.

Nah, he has such arrogance and so little empathy that he would not see that as an issue. Nor would his mum probably, until she was actually in that situation.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/03/2018 12:22

Instead of thinking about it he'd accuse you of attacking his mother. I really don't know how he's got a reputation as an intellectual.

MIngerDynasty · 11/03/2018 12:38

He'd call his mother a horrible transphobe on the wrong side of history

DarthArts · 11/03/2018 14:40

I confess I look forward to reading OJ's next book.

"How not to be a patronising, virtue signalling twit".

Publication date is sadly 2055 as he says he's got an awful lot of research to do.

Owen Jones has a number of times tweeted about someone burning a book of his, oh noes, how fascistic. (To be clear, I think burning books of any kind, even OJ's, is stupid and counter-productive.)

And yet OJ has nothing to say about his friends standing outside a building full of women and chanting "burn it down".

I wonder why this is?

terryleather · 11/03/2018 14:57

You and me both! Grin

But then we are living in a post factual world...

Peanutbuttercups21 · 11/03/2018 15:02

I think neither Owen Jones, nor Julie Bindell come out looking good from that Twitter Spat.

Lottapianos · 11/03/2018 17:19

'Publication date is sadly 2055 as he says he's got an awful lot of research to do.'

DarthArts · 11/03/2018 18:44

So the book burning thing has been seized on totally disproportionately by OJ and supporters.

In short one woman tweeted as a joke that whilst her mother had burned her bra in support of women's rights, she'd burned the establishment (paraphrased).

The Establishment is the name of OJ's book and she accompanied the comment with a picture of it on the fire.

In short it was more a funny quip than a major political statement against OJ based on the "un/fortunate" title of his book.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 13/03/2018 14:48

Just voted on LOJ on yougov. Laughed when I saw "sanctimonious" as an optional tag - shame there was no "morph" tag though Grin

YourVagesty · 13/03/2018 14:59

Hilarious! And loving the comments on here, so pithy.

I can't believe I used to think that OJ had a progressive voice. How did he turn into this?

nauticant · 13/03/2018 14:59

I wonder how hard it is to burn a book as a complete entity. Whenever I've tried I've had to pull the pages away from the binding to get an effective burn.

As an experiment I'm going to try to burn one as a complete entity in my wood-burning stove. That should see me as a fascist on two counts.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/03/2018 15:32

I think a book would burn much as a log would. They're both essentially a lump of wood. I burned A Stranger in a Strange Land. What a steaming pile of arse that was.

Mumsnut · 15/03/2018 10:41

You could tear out the pages and hang them on a nail in the privy. Surely more satisfying?

I recycle a lot of children's books if I think they are anti-feminist. I would normally charity shop but I feel the need to contain the infection.

I wouldn't burn one though, 'cos CO2 right?

Popchyk · 19/03/2018 11:44

Another day, another mantrum.

I had a look to see if he was saying anything about Labour postponing their decision on self-ID on all women shortlists.

He isn't. He has far bigger fish to fry.

He is having a tantrum about Julia Hartley-Brewer who wrote:

"My timeline is full of comments about @OwenJones84. Can I let you into a little secret?

Like most people who’ve had the misfortune of dealing with him at close quarters, I can assure you that the only thing Owen Jones really cares about is Owen Jones. Just ignore him."

Owen is NOT HAPPY. He is retweeting some of his mates saying what a wonderful bloke he is.

His mum will be along in a minute.

PerfPower · 19/03/2018 12:08

Re -tweeting his mates Grin, that's embarrassing and proving her point.

Terftastic · 19/03/2018 12:34

I can't believe these insecure little boys get these plum jobs with the Guardian, and these lucrative publishing deals. He's a baby.

God - but this is weird - I've always hated JHB's politics - totally disagree with her on brexit - and yet twice in the last few weeks I've been applauding her.

imnolaidee · 19/03/2018 12:36

You're not allowed to post stuff like this as Mumsnet get upset.

I just had a similar thread pulled for exploring the issue of being blocked by lily madigan and I can feel the full force of mumsnet eyeing me now and blocking my account here.

GabeIsShocking · 19/03/2018 12:41

Owen is very keen to be seen as a historical figure, he is going to end up on the wrong side and lose his position of power. Life is going to be very hard for people like him, at least he made a million or so, so won't have to worry financially.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 19/03/2018 12:47

What a fucking baby!!!🤣🤣🤣 Getting his mates in to defend him oh my!!! 🤣🤣

TerfyMcTerface · 19/03/2018 12:49

He’ll be OK. As you say, he’s made loadsamoney from wearing poor people (who he doesnt actually give a shiney shit about) like a badge. He’s a Champagne socialist. A brocialist. All the cliches. The sad thing is that people like him actually put the rest of the population off socialism and ultimately harm the very people they profess to want to help.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 19/03/2018 12:53

Owen is very keen to be seen as a historical figure

YES! I think he fantasises about people talking about him 100 years from now as some great man who led 'the people' to freedom. Or something.

GabeIsShocking · 19/03/2018 13:04

It is not going to happen Owen. The best write-up about him will be as someone who found happiness in being part of the Labour party trolling TERFrigettes.
