Biological SEX MATTERS. How many mumsnetters say "aye" to this campaign?

1000 replies

SexMatters · 05/03/2018 10:34

This document and campaign called 'Sex Matters' is a collaborative effort by amazing and knowledgeable mumsnetters on a couple of threads in FWR.

To move forward with the campaign, the organisations and individuals approached will need to know who is behind it, and the honest truth, is that mumsnetters have spearheaded it.

That does not mean that other campaigners can't get involved or even take greater ownership of it. But it needs a bio in order to introduce it to people and organisations to get started and I need your consent to describe the campaign this way: 'mumsnetter led' (and maybe even some suggestions for writing a bio on this thread).

So, you amazing gender-critical mumsnetters, do you say 'aye'?

AYE

For my daughters and their daughters. And for all women, even those who cannot accept the need for protections for women and girls.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 07/03/2018 19:54

Very very much Aye

SexMatters · 07/03/2018 21:22

Thanks to all those new posters who say "aye" Flowers

And thanks Flowers to everyone who has collaborated on this document. I have tried to incorporate as much as possible while trying to keep the tone fairly consistent and sticking to the meaning and parameters originally conceived.

here is the latest version

I'd appreciate it if you could give it a look - and I hear what the posters are saying about the urgency of getting it out there and there not being the time or luxury for perfectionism, so it can only really withstand minor changes like a word here or there or correction of typos.

Thanks in advance!

Outstanding Flowers

The bit at the bottom of the first page about people who don’t want single sex I’d suggest removing the italics as it might be read as slightly patronising.

Also: “Schools are removing the right to choose single sex toilets, changing facilities, residential accommodation and single sex education”

Well done and thank you for all your hard work on this. You’ve done a very good thing.

Lemonjello · 07/03/2018 21:58

Are you going to add in an action that people can take?

MissBeehiving · 07/03/2018 21:59

Aye

On the bit that says “why do people want to access .....?” I think the reasons are not ones that most trans women would think or give.

You don’t acknowledge the main reason for using the ladies’ loo which would be “because they prefer to live their life as a woman” (or however Miranda Yardley puts it). Also that they don’t think of themself as a threat and might be scared to go into the men’s toilet.

I’ve probably got the language wrong but for me that bit is flawed.

BSJohnson · 07/03/2018 22:06

Aye

thanksjaneshusbandatcaresouth · 07/03/2018 22:08

Sorry, me again.

a trans woman’s motivation re toilets may be innocent and wholly positive for her whilst still being negative and threatening for others.

I think the document needs to face that fact not shy away. These are competing goods and the needs of girls are, simply, not negotiable so we need a next best solution for trans women.

Otherwise you risk saying that all trans women in the loo are there for bad reasons or MH.

Aye.
Just marvellous.

Betsy is there another source rather than lifesitenews? If pos links should be above reproach and I think that is pro-life?

cromeyellow0 · 07/03/2018 22:30

This is better source for Toronto shelter:

Lemonjello - Oh, I didn't know. I'm sure there's loads if you google Hambrook. How about Toronto Sun?

Some may take exception to the Hands Across The Aisle link as well, but I think it's really good to have lots of photos of the athletes on one page.
