Biological SEX MATTERS. How many mumsnetters say "aye" to this campaign?

1000 replies

SexMatters · 05/03/2018 10:34

This document and campaign called 'Sex Matters' is a collaborative effort by amazing and knowledgeable mumsnetters on a couple of threads in FWR.

To move forward with the campaign, the organisations and individuals approached will need to know who is behind it, and the honest truth, is that mumsnetters have spearheaded it.

That does not mean that other campaigners can't get involved or even take greater ownership of it. But it needs a bio in order to introduce it to people and organisations to get started and I need your consent to describe the campaign this way: 'mumsnetter led' (and maybe even some suggestions for writing a bio on this thread).

So, you amazing gender-critical mumsnetters, do you say 'aye'?

Absolutely aye.

Aye

I've already voted Aye. But, doing a bit more thinking – tweaking the words would be a good idea, if there was time available to get it perfect. But there is no time left. The encroachment is already being permitted, and by some very significant organisations. There's probably some memorable quote along the lines of: publish imperfectly now, rather than publish perfectly too late.

My thoughts exactly Koosh.

@DodoPatrol OMG Dodo, I hadn't even thought it that far yet, but yes you're right! We have recently re-homed an abused dog. He was abused by and terrified of men. You make an excellent point! So I guess we have to re-educate pets now tooHmm

@Xulishesthepilot

Just wondered if you were aware that men are still banning women from their spaces (citing camaraderie and banter as their need for separation). Even Transmen are banned. Transmen are also prohibited from receiving titles.

So women are not allowed to have separation for safe spaces - this is considered transphobic.
Men are allowed to have separate spaces to have fun - this is considered perfectly acceptable.

Please tell me why?

We had a rescue dog when I was much younger. It had been ill-treated. It was also terrified of men. Aside from my dad and my brother, it took about three years before that dog didn't bow down and whine if a man got anywhere near her.

lenaperkins · 06/03/2018 22:28

Aye.

TheMonstrousRegiment Your dog just needs educating. Do you think the TRAs will have special pet re educators? 🤔

I had a cat that was absolutely terrified of men after being tortured and it’s eye removed. It knew as soon as a man entered the house, even if it didn’t see or hear him. I work with dogs and a few of the rescued ones are afraid of men. It was nearly a year before my husband could approach her and it broke his big soft heart. Though she ended up adoring him.
I’ve only one that actually prefers men, but he has two doting daddies, so that’s probably why. 😁

Aren’t animals amazing, the way they can tell the difference between men and women, no matter how they present.

PositivelyPERF · 06/03/2018 22:30

So I seem to have put my sentences in the wrong order. 😕

*@LangClegFlowers @PositivelyPERF * Flowers Thanks for rescuing! It makes me feel ill that this too could become an issue. The abuse out there is bad enough without adding more torment just to push a pointAngry

Butterandsugar · 06/03/2018 22:50

No from me, for the reasons already articulated earlier

Terftastic · 06/03/2018 23:47

I know we are getting slightly off topic here - but this is so true! We have a rescue dog, we know nothing of what happened to the poor thing for the first 10 mths of his life. But he is so wary of men.

Me & DD - he is totally protective of. He's very accepting of my DH and 2 DS - but goes slightly on edge if there is, say, a playfight - and goes ultra protective of the females. My DH has been known to pick up DD, and he'll go a bit on edge - you know, heckles up.

He doesn't like men he doesn't know. He takes a while to get used to them if they visit the house - women - no problem.

You can't trick dogs away from biology Wink They know.
