Biological SEX MATTERS. How many mumsnetters say "aye" to this campaign?

1000 replies

SexMatters · 05/03/2018 10:34

This document and campaign called 'Sex Matters' is a collaborative effort by amazing and knowledgeable mumsnetters on a couple of threads in FWR.

To move forward with the campaign, the organisations and individuals approached will need to know who is behind it, and the honest truth, is that mumsnetters have spearheaded it.

That does not mean that other campaigners can't get involved or even take greater ownership of it. But it needs a bio in order to introduce it to people and organisations to get started and I need your consent to describe the campaign this way: 'mumsnetter led' (and maybe even some suggestions for writing a bio on this thread).

So, you amazing gender-critical mumsnetters, do you say 'aye'?

Xuliashesthepilot, should Pato's 200m race by segregated by sex? Because at the moment it isn't.

JellySlice · 05/03/2018 15:47

Spartacus says "Aye".

While I agree with every statement of that document, some are definitely going to see certain statements as transphobic and inflammatory. Nonetheless - aye.

mirandayardley · 05/03/2018 15:53

Aye, if you need my support.

Hidingtonothing · 05/03/2018 15:55

Xulishesthepilot · 05/03/2018 15:59

Actually no, I'm not done sounding off quite yet, I am raging. This is the most blatantly disingenuous document ever. The sole purpose of it is to get people to support giving women the "right" to discriminate against trans people whenever the fuck they feel like it. Not when it matters, not for good reason, but just because they want to. Disgusting. The whole thing puts prisons and healthcare where it actually fucking matters if you're BORN a woman or not deliberately alongside fucking BOOK GROUPS, as if being okay to exclude transwomen in one scenario (where it is fucking justified) makes it okay by association to exclude them from the other just because you want to. Anyone not seeing this, you need to read this document again. And again. And again.

Afternooncatnap · 05/03/2018 15:59

Aye

Xulishesthepilot · 05/03/2018 15:59

NOW I'm done.

UpstartCrow · 05/03/2018 16:02

Xulishesthepilot No it isnt.

You might never be on a mental health ward, or want to compete in sports, well bully for you.

Why don't you fight for a gender neutral third option that everyone can use if they feel comfortable?

JustHooking · 05/03/2018 16:04

Aye
Why is a persons right to self identify more important that a persons right to single sex spaces
Trans people can be respected, protected against discrimination and able to live the life they choose as long as it has no impact on others.
Wanting to retain single sex spaces is not transphobia it is pro women
Trans women should respect womens needs

JustHooking · 05/03/2018 16:06

Why should a group of women not be allowed to meet, form groups or discuss womens issues without a cry of transphobia if they do not include trans women
Whose needs, incidentally, are completely different

Cistersaredoingitforthemselves · 05/03/2018 16:07

Aye

BigGapMum · 05/03/2018 16:08

Aye

SexMatters · 05/03/2018 16:09

They'll be trying to sell us those bastard Just for Her Bic pens again soon won't they, when they hear women want their own special lady stuff again.

But by acknowledging that biological sex is an actual thing, it opens up the conversation to fact that sex and gender are different, which is urgent since the two are conflated everywhere - from law, to medicine, to commerce...

But I hear you around your concerns about the risks associated with this campaign.

Aye

LangCleg · 05/03/2018 16:18

alongside fucking BOOK GROUPS

Funnily enough, the women's book group in the library at my town shut down because a "transbian" ruined it by never letting anyone else get a word in.

If women want a bloody book group that excludes males who are only in it because they want validation of their glitter womanly inner identity, they should feel PERFECTLY FREE TO MAKE ONE.

(Sorry to derail.)

DickTERFin · 05/03/2018 16:20
