Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Pilgrim Tucker, who spoke at the meeting last Tuesday, being stitched up on TV tomorrow?

She has tweeted that she was invited to talk about self ID on the Victoria Derbyshire Show being aired tomorrow at 9am.

But she had no idea that the interviewer was a transactivist. They only told her afterwards.

How much longer is this bias going to be pushed by the BBC? Will a gender critical woman be invited to interview a transactivist.? You know, in the interests of ‘fairness’.

How are women supposed to counter the #nodebate when it is being rigorously upheld by the BBC?

I sincerely hope the programme is fair and balanced, despite my misgivings...

When they said 'the suicide rate is in our favour'

Well that definitely convinces me that this is an honest, trustworthy group of individuals with the best interests of young people in mind.

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 10:06

survival or not

fuck me

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2018 10:06

comments Victoria just read out, were good.

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 10:06

In fact the sports thing has me reaching for virtual gin (I'm 30 weeks) and hopping mad when I look at that chart. Will they happily self id with even the pink line?

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 10:07

Fabulously well composed comments.

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2018 10:09

Yes, well survival or not comment, just says 'look i'm pro-trans, look how empathetic I am' doesn't it?

If you are in an emotional and distressed state, please take a minute and think of the feelings of others before your own... your own natural instinct to help you survive is irrelevant and just bigoted.

Yes. Yes, that will work.

Ifonlyus · 05/03/2018 10:11

LangCleg GRCs can, and have, been given to convicted rapists and child sex offenders. Why should I respect this piece of paper or allow holders into safe spaces for women?

Can that be tweeted to Victoria Derbyshire?

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 10:11

Just reaching for the ear bleach

PositivelyPERF · 05/03/2018 10:12

I was surprised she read out so many sensible comments. Though I think she probably started reading some that seemed to start as ‘pro trans’ comments, thinking “great, this fits our pro trans narrative” only to be slightly thrown by the “but keep women safe” that the same comments continued with.

Yes PERF but there will be complaints, so she is covering her back

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 10:14

That guy who says governments organise things around the binary - prisons are segregated to protect women. Women's toilets exist to protect women from men.

The elephant in the room that everyone is ignoring is misogyny.

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 10:16

VD is thick, how did I not know this

MsBeaujangles · 05/03/2018 10:17

I think that the way forward in any debate is to insist on distinguishing between sex and gender at the outset. It is then possible to clearly point out - ahh, but you are talking about gender, I'm talking about sex here when it comes to key points.

We can say, trans people shouldn't ever be excluded from anything on the basis of their gender/ gender identity. Gender should never be used to segregate. Yes suicide is awful. Suicidal people should receive mental health support and action needs to be taken to stop discrimination. Yes, all gender non conforming people (be they trans or not) should be supported to be who they want to be - etc.

And.....sex protections are needed.

SwearyG · 05/03/2018 10:17

Oh yay Rebecca Root is NAMALTing

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 10:18

Well if they are in prison surely they did commit crimes

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/03/2018 10:18

I'm trying to watch on catch up how far in is it

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2018 10:19

You can't tar everyone no.

But then that's why safeguarding is a good thing. To ensure that trans people aren't tarred by the ones who exploit it.

Duh.

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 10:19

Go Sarah! Male violence is the issue!

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 10:19

VD not biased at all Sad

IndominusRex · 05/03/2018 10:20

I think we need to start being clear. These people are manipulating language to confuse people.
