Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Pilgrim Tucker, who spoke at the meeting last Tuesday, being stitched up on TV tomorrow?

She has tweeted that she was invited to talk about self ID on the Victoria Derbyshire Show being aired tomorrow at 9am.

But she had no idea that the interviewer was a transactivist. They only told her afterwards.

How much longer is this bias going to be pushed by the BBC? Will a gender critical woman be invited to interview a transactivist.? You know, in the interests of ‘fairness’.

How are women supposed to counter the #nodebate when it is being rigorously upheld by the BBC?

I sincerely hope the programme is fair and balanced, despite my misgivings...

I've just found out that Nic Williams is now going to be on the show too.

She got on the case, so maybe they have succumbed to pressure by inviting her, too?

That's all I know.

This could be interesting.

Oh oh! Some good news!

Knock em dead DrW

holycheeseplant · 04/03/2018 19:22

Does pilgrim know this?

Datun · 04/03/2018 19:32

I don't know. But Nic said upthread she had spoken to Pilgrim.

So hopefully they're in touch and Pilgrim is up to speed.

Pilgrim's interview has obviously been pre-recorded, unlike Nic's.

I might have a go at doing a running commentary

BUT I am not as intelligent and articulate as so many of you here, so I might embarrass myself Blush

or I might record it and have a good think about it

Datun · 04/03/2018 22:44

Unfortunately I won't be watching it until after lunch.

I generally pick and choose what I watch, because rage, but I'm really rooting for Dr W on this one.

Datun · 04/03/2018 22:55

Hello everyone. I'm on the train to London. Will be on a live panel discussion at 10 am with two trans people Rebecca Roots and Clara Barker. For women we have me and Sarah Ditum. This is our chance to get women's views heard. I'll do my best for us all! BBC2 Victoria Derbyshire. There's a short film made by Roots at 9am which will set the scene. This is pre recorded and has Pilgrim Tucker and also Paris Lees.

DoctorW - Good luck, thanks for this! I can't watch as I'm not in the UK and the BBC has blocked every VPN I've tried, but I'll be cheering you on anyway.

LizzieSiddal · 05/03/2018 08:18

Good luck! I will be watching and rooting for you!

Badgerthebodger · 05/03/2018 08:20

Good luck DrW we couldn’t have a better duo to speak up for women, you and Sarah will be brilliant

LangCleg · 05/03/2018 08:23

Best of British, Dr Nic!

I work from home, so I'll watch and cheer you on. I usually avoid Victoria Derbyshire, even in the background, because she's such a ghoul over emotive issues. And positively puke-worthy on trans stuff. I hope to keep my temper!

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 08:44

Good luck Doctor W

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:11

Good luck DrW.

First thoughts of the intro on the prog was that so far, the q posed is should women object to transwomen accessing women's changing rooms, toilets etc. So the q is pitched without ref to self id. Pre learning about this, my own understanding of 'trans' was that they'd had operations and hormones. So my initial reaction to this headline would have been well yes I think so, though I don't know how much I'd ever thought about it.

My reaction is now, that depends - how trans is trans?

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:17

So I'd want to hear it outlined that -

People are self id ing and self id will mean a TiM with a penis accessing these areas.

  • Impact on prisons.
  • impact on sport, even with grc.
  • why can't we view TiMs as widening the bandwidth of being male?
  • the homophobia mixed in with this including the cotton ceiling
SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 09:17

Wow VD is very condescending

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:18

Hang on - about terfs yes.

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:18

Sorry tried to say two different things there!

Ereshkigal · 05/03/2018 09:18

Good luck Nic!
