Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Pilgrim Tucker, who spoke at the meeting last Tuesday, being stitched up on TV tomorrow?

She has tweeted that she was invited to talk about self ID on the Victoria Derbyshire Show being aired tomorrow at 9am.

But she had no idea that the interviewer was a transactivist. They only told her afterwards.

How much longer is this bias going to be pushed by the BBC? Will a gender critical woman be invited to interview a transactivist.? You know, in the interests of ‘fairness’.

How are women supposed to counter the #nodebate when it is being rigorously upheld by the BBC?

I sincerely hope the programme is fair and balanced, despite my misgivings...

'Steve' - define woman please.

Good points made by fb/ twitter commenters.

LizzieSiddal · 05/03/2018 09:35

I’m so glad Heather Peto was on there for everyone to see and hear.

It should peak trans a few more people.

LangCleg · 05/03/2018 09:35

Urgh. Did just about enough to avoid complaints but completely framed as pro-trans. I'll try for the debate but no promises.

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:36

The issue is that there's too much being focussed on the trans dilemma- NOT the reasons why radical feminism exists, not the ongoing misogyny in society, etc abuse of women as the reasons WHY sex segregation exists and still does need to exist.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 05/03/2018 09:36

That last comment - this is the problem, people don't get the concept of Self ID. The guy was going on about 'transitioning' - clearly thinking that men get the SRS op when in fact most don't

AngryAttackKittens · 05/03/2018 09:36

Heather Peto? That's just taking the piss.

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:36

And still no real definition between sex and gender.

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 09:37

Lang I expect its too early for gin, but I'm struggling.

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:37

Yes assigned, this point needs to be re clarified.

HomeTerf · 05/03/2018 09:38

It's on iplayer already...

SwearyG · 05/03/2018 09:39

Heather Peto couldn’t come across as more of a man in a frock if they tried. The male entitlement comes across in every fucking syllable. Surely people watching can’t fail to be peak transed!

Have turned off to calm down before going back on at 10

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 09:44

I didn't understand why the bloke said politicians don't get Trans
when the whole fucking problem is that ALL the main political parties are completely on the Trans Bus

And none of them give a fuck about women

Excuse my language

LangCleg · 05/03/2018 09:47

A point I saw made online that I think feminists should get into any and every interview:

GRCs can, and have, been given to convicted rapists and child sex offenders. Why should I respect this piece of paper or allow holders into safe spaces for women?

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:49

It's ironic though, they still chose all women to talk about the oscars given the theme of the ceremony this year. One rule for the a listers, another for vulnerable women everywhere else...Hmm

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 09:50

And they didn't mention the medical transitioning of children, funny that

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:51

I think the focus of this is specifically accessing women's spaces.

But they could talk about schools...

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 05/03/2018 09:51

Thank God for Heather Peto. I really think if they hadn't been included that would have been an unnervingly convincing piece of propaganda

AngryAttackKittens · 05/03/2018 09:52

Heather Peto makes Emily Howard look and sound convincing.

SmurfOrTerf · 05/03/2018 09:53

holy, yes I watched Sky news this morning and a man (I've no idea who he was) said now women are safe in the workplace its just the rest of their lives they have to worry about harassment

and politicians and the BBC and universities, sorry the list is endless

can't see it

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2018 09:54

Well so far I have three major criticisms.

  1. Gender / Sex conflation. Sex is a protected characteristic. Language is important. Erasing sex, means sex is not protected.
  2. The suicide thing, with no reference nor nuance. Irresponsible.
  3. The idea there is no evidence about there being a problem over trans sex offenders / rapist. Noting here that part of the problem here, is the way that data is collected - by gender not sex and without saying they are trans - means that this information is not necessarily being recorded anyway.
holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 09:58

Yes I wonder if DrW will be able to slip in that TiMs are and certainly are more likely under self id to be included in women's crime stats and the confusing complications this causes.

And ironic #2: lots of discussion about sir BW and this medicine that was not illegal but unethical - what about the unethical ness of a TiM accessing women's sport with the physical advantages of a MUCH larger lung capacity (and the difference is huge even with asthma) and different skeletal and muscular physiology.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 05/03/2018 09:59

When they said 'the suicide rate is in our favour'

no words

Ereshkigal · 05/03/2018 10:00

When they said 'the suicide rate is in our favour'

If people are listening, they give themselves away,

holycheeseplant · 05/03/2018 10:01

Slightly ot but look at this handily stereotypically colour coded peak flow chart for men and women.
