"If you’re a Mum and on mn that often to have time to engage with ‘feminist’ forums, you’re more likely to be a ‘stay at home mum’. These are bored middle-class women putting their privileged Uni-educated thoughts to oppressing a small, vulnerable, oppressed sector of society"

Nice bit of sexism going on there

@Mummyontherun86 to be fair, I think that's the stance of many posters here.

Wanderingwomb · 25/02/2018 21:56

Tbh the threat confirms suspicions of a large amount of male privileged access to influence the various structures of power with their dogma. Its great as it helps expose just what a grass roots campaign this isn't.

sanluca · 25/02/2018 21:58

Reading this thread and looking at the twitter thread, all I can say is that there are more people here laughing at the twitter thread than on twitter laughing at mumsnet..

Sahm no, mum yes, career yes (stem), gender critical oh yes! Idiots, all of them

Datun · 25/02/2018 22:03

Does this Helen person officially represent Mermaids?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 25/02/2018 22:04

I didn't really get 'it's a quote not a threat either' surely if you quote a threat at someone you're threatening them? If we have an argument and I shout 'You can't HANDLE the truth' at you it means...er...you can't handle the truth? Right? Not some other random thought I haven't specified.

Very little on that thread makes sense. I'm still waiting for someone to explain why the Latin root of puerile is pertinent to me...

Own your fucking words people.

Xenophile · 25/02/2018 22:29

Of course it was meant to be a threat ffs. The wide eyed ingenue posture doesn’t really work when the quote was also a threat in the film does it, try using the space between your ears to actually think once in a while. It’s good practice.

Elementtree · 25/02/2018 22:51

I've got one thing to say to them.. One Zero One Zero Zero. With that I could steal your money, your secrets, your sexual fantasies, your whole life. Any country, any place, any time I want. We multitask like you breathe. I couldn't think as slow as you if I tried.

If you are going to quote from disaster movies, I think you need something more credible than The Core. Grin Grin

Wait, wait, is that the sound of the Earth's core grinding to a halt leaving us vulnerable to the destabilising effect of solar radiation? Erm, no pet, that's the sound of bullshit.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/02/2018 22:58

@Xenophile Pretty sure that individual, who's using their own name, is not actually planning to hack into people's computers and steal their financial info.

Xenophile · 25/02/2018 23:06

NotTerf, oh, I don’t think they are either but it was clearly meant as a threat.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/02/2018 23:08

Yes have to admit when I first read it I found it very sinister. There has been some hacking, like the WPUK website being brought down.

HairyBallTheorem · 25/02/2018 23:08

The core was a spectacularly bad movie. They could have come up with a more interesting number surely - I mean how about the classic one zero one zero one zero (sorry, couldn't resist, Douglas Adams nerd joke in binary...)

BetsyM00 · 25/02/2018 23:11

Datun Yes, Helen is Mermaid's Marketing Officer.

Somehow I don't think we are in the target group.

Datun · 25/02/2018 23:14

BetsyM00

Seriously? Is that definite?

Mermaids don't mind that this person is acting like an unprofessional teenager?

Who is going out of their way to piss off 12 million women. With families.

Strewth. Who the bloody hell does their PR.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 25/02/2018 23:16

I luffs Douglas.Grin

It was also cringingly overdramatic and self agrandising. 'We multitask like you breathe. I couldn't think as slow as you if I tried.' My spine is trying to crawl out of my body a bit...

SimonBridges · 25/02/2018 23:16

Once I’d joined the dots I realise that the chips in phones thing is about Sophie Wilson who is trans.
She, as Roger, was a key part of the team that went on to form ARM and invent the chips in damn near every mobile phone and tablet. ARM are a massive deal. Sadly that’s all gone to shit since Brexit.

Annoyingly I’ve seen Sophie cited as an example of women in STEM. Whilst I don’t deny for one moment that she is an excellent programmer and her inventions seriously changed the world as we know it she did so as a man with male privilege. Had she been Sophie then would she have even been taken seriously?

I have no problem with her as an individual and have a great deal of respect for her but I don’t think it is fair to use her as a poster girl for women in STEM or how trans people are taking over the world.

SimonBridges · 25/02/2018 23:19

We multitask like you breathe.

You know you are talking to women here right? We rule the world at multitasking.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 25/02/2018 23:22

I really don't give any kind of fuck who invented the chip in my phone. It's a pretty shit phone anyway but that's beside the point. I'm not now casting it down shouting 'Outwitted once again by the mighty TIMs goddarnit!' I'm sure transpeople do all kinds of good useful shit. Not a problem at all and I can't imagine why it would be.

If that's ironic is it like 'Ironic' by Alanis Morrisette?

Desperatelyseekingsun · 25/02/2018 23:59

I too am sure than people who identify as all sexes and none do good and useful things. This has nothing to do with my issues with self id or my fundamental belief that you cannot actually change sex through power of will and medication.

Flomper · 26/02/2018 00:12

Do these people really think that there are no wonen in technology?

I work in devops too Theresa, despite being a woman, you didn't invent ARM chips and there are lots of women, now, doing IT and STEM, as well as any men or trans women.

Terfinater · 26/02/2018 00:13

Fucking sexist arsehole. That poor kid.

Tanith · 26/02/2018 00:16

I, too, have been on the internet for over 30 years. I know the real significance of one zero one zero zero.

It means... 💣🔥

Tanith · 26/02/2018 00:17

Oopsy! Missed a zero!

BetsyM00 · 26/02/2018 00:21

Datun She certainly was the Marketing Officer. This tweet is from 03 July 2017.

There's always been a bit of back-and-forth with Lily Maynard, and very recently with Miranda Yardley - who, I believe, posted a photo that included Helen's child, with accusations of doxing despite the photo being put on the internet by Helen in the first place.

I'm sure I previously saw Helen's name on the staff list on Mermaid's website but it's no longer there. Googling is not helping me much. So, I'm pretty sure she's still the MO, but I can't verify it.

If you google 'helen @mimmymum mashable' the top hit will give you her surname (She's accused people of doxing her for knowing her publicly available surname!) - maybe you can find out more info.

thebewilderness · 26/02/2018 00:21

I am always struck by how freely people express their contempt for women.
They must know it says more about them than it does about the women who talk on MN.

Flomper · 26/02/2018 00:22

Why does it mean that and not 20? And what is the relevance of some shit disaster movie?
