The last few days, there have been several claims of misandry on Feminist Chat. Please post examples here using a link and screen shot.

Thank you.

Bonus points for "echo chamber!"

We need a bingo card, it would at least alleviate the tedium a bit.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 09:19

'Don't tell em you are an MRA guys, they will never notice'.

Lol.

NauticalDisaster · 25/02/2018 09:20

This is a stupid thread to start, if you read a post that crosses talk guidelines then report it and MNHQ will consider removing it. You can also comment on any thread that you think crosses the line (as Lass did on the rapist thread).

I think coming to a specific thread (this one) to just document that X said y on Z thread probably breaks talk guidelines.

OP you definitely do across MRA-like.

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 09:20

Can I call the thread back on point.
The comments about how women say this or women say that are not helpful and off topic. I did ask for specific examples, not general statements about how people feel.

The 2 that have been given so far are interesting as they dont demonstrate misandry, and have both been misremembered.

PatriarchyPersonified
I would like to call people on the whole '90% of violent crime is commited by men' thing that then becomes justification for tarring all men as potentially violent without qualification.

Women who know that the majority of violent crime is carried out by men take precautions for their own safety.
If non violent men are offended by those precautions, they are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

TerfsUp
Well, OP? Thoughts about the thread you started?
Steady on. I started the thread at 11pm, there wasn't any activity when I went to bed, and you posted before 9am on a sunday morning.

grasspigeons · 25/02/2018 09:22

I know this is slightly off topic, but I find statistics really interesting.

I see that 90% of violent crime is committed by men - does anyone know what % of men commit violent crime? I presume is small.

For the man who asked what can men as a class do to 'stop male violence' I think simple things like not buying music where women are referred to in a derogatory way or glamourizing rape/violence, walking out of films where women get 'shown who is boss' for want of a better description, if you hear a rape joke, saying 'that's not funny'; being vocal against about porn based on rape. if you have a position of power like you are in the police force give weight to a women's voices. The Rotherham scandals show the police force punishing the girls not the men initially - and this has rightly been well documented now. Those police officers presumably joined the police force to protect people but they enabled violence due to societies norms and are probably gutted at how wrong they got it.

Now as you asked, I am sure that you really are a nice bloke and are already thinking along these lines anyway but it really involves a good bit of lateral thinking.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 09:23

I've seen OP around and she's not an MRA. The thread has attracted some, unfortunately.

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 09:23

NauticalDisaster
I'm not an MRA, I'm not sure how you get that idea. I'd like people to stop making vague claims and tone policing the women on the Feminist board.
Claims of misandry just seem like another attempt to make women walk on eggshells for fear of offending. Especially since they cant be backed up by anything concrete.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 25/02/2018 09:26

How do you know what men talk about? From my perspective, nobody that I know thinks that violence towards women, rape or misogyny is acceptable.

Have you visited the internet recently? It is dripping with misogyny. Just this morning I was googling a particular actress and found a video dedicated to calling her a cunt with a rap overlay on how to bring the bitch in line by busting up her face. Nice.

I mean come on! The POTUFS is on record boasting about grabbing pussies and doing whatever you like to women just because you can.

That’s how we know what some men talk about.

Great post patodp btw.

NauticalDisaster · 25/02/2018 09:27

Sorry, OP, it was poster KingHaggisIV that I was responding to in regards to coming across MRA like.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 09:29

OP you definitely do across MRA-like.

No she doesn't. She is calling the MRA apologists out.

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 09:30

Oh, Upstart Crow -you know you’re really a MisogynistRaven. Or an MRARook.............Grin

Feminist Feathers Don’t Make Feminist Birds, you know.......

TerfsUp · 25/02/2018 09:30

OP, it would have been helpful if you had provided evidence of your own rather than just starting a thread and expecting other people to respond.

PatriarchyPersonified · 25/02/2018 09:31

Kittens

I don't think your analogy works.

If a group of Indian people on the internet were discussing how all white English people are scum because of colonialism, it would be completely justified to call them out on it.

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 09:31

I think most men need educating out of harmful socialisation that is deleterious to women and girls. Clearly, there is a spectrum from rapist and domestic abuser to generally benign but still extant.

As a person who prefers class analysis, this is my approach to feminism.

If you regard this as misandry, PatriarchyPersonified, it's absolutely no skin off my nose. Cos I'm that much of a misandrist, as I said earlier, that I don't give a shiny shit.

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 09:32

“Sorry, OP, it was poster KingHaggisIV that I was responding to in regards to coming across MRA like.”

Oh, yes. He’s busted and gone. They are getting better at it- we need to be careful.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 09:32

OP, it would have been helpful if you had provided evidence of your own rather than just starting a thread and expecting other people to respond.

I think the point is that there isn't any...or if there is it is usually deleted. Unless you can see hundreds of screenshots/links and it's just me that can't?

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 09:32

Are you not going to respond to anyone except me, Patriarchy? That's not very polite. If you want women to listen to you it's important to be nice!

mirialis · 25/02/2018 09:32

If you're a shop rather than a person, then sure, feel free to worry about the category of person statistically most likely to steal small easily hidden items from your shelves

Round my way it's absolutely normal for shops to have signs up saying "no more than 2 schoolchildren at one time" and having a member of staff policing the door at the end of the school day.

These shop owners don't need abstract numbers on who is statistically more likely to nick stuff from their shops - they actually see and experience it all the time and have to take these precautions as a consequence.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 09:33

If a group of Indian people on the internet were discussing how all white English people are scum because of colonialism, it would be completely justified to call them out on it.

Would you do that?

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 09:34

“If a group of Indian people on the internet were discussing how all white English people are scum because of colonialism, it would be completely justified to call them out on it.”

I agree. You show me where anyone has said all men are violent/rapists and i’ll join you in calling them out on it.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 09:35

In the event that someone did the above, I would in fact think they were being a tosser and should acquire a sense of perspective.

PatriarchyPersonified · 25/02/2018 09:36

IfYouSee

I'm not disagreeing that those kind of attitudes do exist. Im saying that using their existence to portray all men as feeling the same way is unwarranted.

The posters saying I should be out fighting for feminism instead of posting on here. It is possible to care about more than one thing at once.

I have been told many times that all feminism is, is equality. I am a passionate believer in all forms of equality. On those terms, I am a feminist.

My objection comes when people start to bundle all sorts of other things into the label of 'feminism' and claim it's still just about equality.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 09:37

Anyway this point:
the low-level "men don't see dirt" is clearly misandry

Actually, this is quite the opposite of misandry. It is patriarch compliance, it is upholding the gendered hierarchy where men are too above/too important to take part in domestic wife work.

Noticing dirt is the female domian it's up to females to sort out the dirt, and pretending that men just can't see dirt reinforces this notion conveniently

No I agree with Betrand- it is misandry. Your explanation is an example of what I mentioned earlier- women cannot ever be in the wrong or be responsible for their actions (or just behave like grown-ups) because hey, the patriarchy !.
