We're being spammed

Have seen two totally irrelevant threads on the board. Both regarding babies. I wonder if someone is trying to remind us of our proper function. The only purpose I can think of is to drive 'proper ' threads down the board. I have reported the threads suggesting that they are moved to chat but not commented as I don't want to bump them. Suggest this might be a good way to deal if we get lots of these.

We are being spammed. We're being observed on other sites and facebook and twitter. All this lovely attention. Do you get the feeling SOMEONE is worried?

Someone mentioned upthread about posters starting to agree then wavering and those ones are dodgy... I started to talk to DH about all this and felt all stupid and I can see how I'd definitely be outwitted in a discussion about this. Not all of us who waver/ask questions are being sneaky

That was me. And you're right. People with questions or who want to thrash out doubts are really really welcome.

I was thinking of posters whose question becomes vaguer and vaguer the more they post, until the whole rest of the thread is centred around everybody trying to understand what they're asking. Or posters who start off agreeing with an assumption the thread is premised on (e.g. that most sexual assault is committed by men); but then shift their position so the thread becomes all about arguing about the premise rather than the actual issue that the OP raised. These tactics can completely derail threads, and they can usually be spotted by the fact that the whole thread is being dominated by one poster.

I think you're right though, better to be sealioned a bit than risk putting off genuine questioners. Sorry everyone.

I just googled too, and really struggled to find any Venn diagrams including transgender, Ive attached the one I managed to find, which is simple and clear

It is certainly important that women in particular are not silenced by men taking over or not letting us get a word in edgeways which happens on a lot of male dominated sites never mind often in real life. of course I also support the right of men to debate things but some shouting over women or ridiculous forming of new thread after new thread distracts from the real issues.

Also whilst some people are indeed trans much as they won't like me to say it they are pretty few, fairly de minimis and going on about issues so much that it means issues affected far far far more people i.e. women then find it hard to make space for the issues that matter more to be heard.

That diagram! Blimey. Could serve as an illustration of When Venn Diagrams Go Bad. I do love how they've handily made it pink and blue, and I particularly like how the categories of "woman" and "people" are discrete.

Has this increase in pointless 'sealion' posts on the Mumsnet feminist boards started since the Spectator article will have woken up all the trans activists and Men's Rights Activists (MRAs) that Mumsnet is humming with all this stuff? They are such spiteful saboteurs. Have you seen the TAs are trolling Woman's Place UK? They've created a similarly named twitter account, and are sending out hateful fake tweets, and even gloating when they get private messages from women thinking they are DMing WPUK. Horrible, horrible people

Don't know what other people think but it used to be VAWG threads that got sealioned, not trans ones. So maybe.

I'd imagine TRAs are getting increasingly desperate. They are relying on getting legislation changes through before anyone notices. Once people notice the changes will be held up to scrutiny by the general voting public, and no-one will want to pass such toxic legislation.

No Venn diagram. No cake. It's a sad state of affairs.....
