Have seen two totally irrelevant threads on the board. Both regarding babies. I wonder if someone is trying to remind us of our proper function. The only purpose I can think of is to drive 'proper ' threads down the board. I have reported the threads suggesting that they are moved to chat but not commented as I don't want to bump them. Suggest this might be a good way to deal if we get lots of these.

Oh, Rat, I think you are an inveterate, goalpost moving, disingenuous sealion. But there we go - you knew I'd say that, didn't you?!

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 13/02/2018 11:44

Pages and pages and I'm none the wiser as to what Rat thinks. I assume this will go for some time

AngryAttackKittens · 13/02/2018 11:45

If we asked really nicely do you think Mumsnet would build us a mute button?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/02/2018 11:46

Mute button in your heads people

MachiavellianBagOfCunts · 13/02/2018 11:50

Strikes me the posters who genuinely want to discuss the issues and hear the different viewpoints don't realise they're not the bosses here. A very many more seem to only want a platform for their inflexible ideologies. And that's not a healthy thing.

Rat, since you're responding to Carrier, can I point something out that they wrote?

The fact remains, no one, but no one has come up with any arguements apart from "i just don't like trans people".

Do you agree with that statement?

Do you agree that, for example, questioning whether vulnerable women in prison should be housed separately from rapists who happen to be transgender, boils down to 'not liking trans people'?

And how is dismissing a huge number of valid concerns as 'not liking trans people' (or more accurately pretending they don't exist) in any way engaging in debate? Who's really being inflexible here?

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 11:50

That's very kind of you Barracker but this is not a category of my choosing so it is not for me to say who I share it with. It is a category devised and repeated by people who are looking to abuse and undermine posters who disagree with them, discourage others from engaging with them and to shut down debate.

"Don't feed the sealions", they say. I don't know what you think about that. I don't know if that puts me in the same bracket as carrier to you and I wouldn't presume to guess. But I wouldn't be on board with others using this line of attack, even if I agreed with them.

MachiavellianBagOfCunts · 13/02/2018 11:51

Ack, rereading my post it's confusingly worded. By this:

And how is dismissing a huge number of valid concerns as 'not liking trans people' (or more accurately pretending they don't exist)

I meant 'pretending those CONCERNS exist', not transgender people.

It would be nice if they could truly understand the issues and concerns that females have with transactivists and self - id without trying to remove our rights. They are basically trampling over our rights to boost theirs.

But we are subjected to pseudo science and psycho babble and some old philosophers chit chat bollocks to prove that (as transwoman) they are right and we need to get back to the kitchen sink.

carrierwaveonly · 13/02/2018 11:53

RatRolyPoly I quite agree. I don't mind being called a sealion to be honest. I think maybe the point of that cartoon is that there is no obvious bad guy. Or maybe i missed the point...

life goes on and fish is tasty :)

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 13/02/2018 11:55

My issue is - is it more of an 'arf arf arf' noise or an 'owp owp owp'?

I have swum with a wild sealion. That was emphatically NOT tedious. She was fucking fabulous.

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 11:55

Do you agree with that statement?

Mach people have come up with different arguments when speaking to me. I don't know what anyone's said to carrier. I have had wonderfully insightful conversations with people like Italiangreyhound and other posters that have not boiled down to "not liking trans people", but for clarity; these have been against a backdrop of a lot of posters clearly (in my mind) not liking trans people. So there truth on both sides.

Horridemma · 13/02/2018 11:57

Arf arf lol

AngryAttackKittens · 13/02/2018 11:59

Arf arf, to my ears. I've seen them basking in the sun on a pier before and they're very loud! And presumably less stinky from a human's perspective when they're underwater.

(Weren't you worried about sharks though? They love sealions, and seals.)

I don't mind being called a sealion to be honest.

I'll be honest carrier, I mind it! I mind because this is our feminism board, THIS is what women see when they click on the threads, this represents Feminism on MN; and it's like a bloody teenaged playground!

Talk about shedding stereotypes, turning women on to Feminism, building up other women, valuing their views.

I think it's disgusting if I'm honest.

Undoubtedly I won't be the only one to see this who thinks so.

Mostly I just think it's very sad.

All I want is my rights to be protected not eroded. They have been hard fought for and now being taken away by men

AngryAttackKittens · 13/02/2018 12:06

Poor sea puppies, they deserve better than being associated with people who alternately bore or annoy you to death.

coffeecork · 13/02/2018 12:06

I don't mind the sealions and ploppers. They give us opportunity after opportunity to demonstrate that the emperor has no clothes WRT transgender activism. Science, statistics, research and critical thought are on our side. People see this. It's okay.

Rat, I personally don't have you down as a sealion. Smile

rat you've just treated someone who has posted this:
"no one has come up with any arguements apart from "i just don't like trans people" as if you are allies, as if there is nothing controversial in that statement.

Yet, women have debated thoughtfully with you over hours and hours, giving detailed responses. If you agree that carrier's characterisation fairly represents your experience with gender critical feminists then you have no integrity. If you cannot even bring yourself to mention your experience of debating us does not chime with carrier's experience, then I will reluctantly agree with others that you have no respect for your debating contemporaries, and I will ignore your posts going forwards.

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 12:17

horrid I hear you! But you're not allowed to talk to anyone about how best to achieve that, you know that, right?

Cheers coffee, but as you'll see if you look around you you're being broadcast to loud and clear.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/02/2018 12:18

That last one looks like a chocolate Lab with flippers.

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 12:23

You must have missed my reply above to Mach, @BarrackerBarmer, as I do precisely the things you would expect of me.
