Comrades,

The framing of the self-id debate as 'Corbynistas vs. Mumsnet' is a deliberate tactic by the right wing propaganda machine and done to undermine Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party and paint it as hopelessly divided. We're not.

It is important to remember that only a Corbyn gov't will lift women out of poverty, build homes, invest in the economy, make tuition fees free and stop invading the Middle East. Jeremy, though he doesn't hold our position, is the only Labour MP who has not only come out and said that women are entitled to a debate and to campaign against self-id, but that we have a right to raise money to see if the Equalities Act 2010 exemptions are being misused by AWS.

Hope everyone is well. Mumsnet you are indeed mighty.

The women of Rochester need intersectional feminism. Even if they have to be dragged to it screaming.

SophoclesTheFox · 13/02/2018 20:11

It's not a thread about politics until the ComradeBot has made an appearance to deliver some pithy platitudes Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/02/2018 20:16

@Horridemma I think women living in that constituency should bombard him with non-trans related women's issues. Because all I hear is a lot of talk about what a delicate little flower he is and how amazing he's going to be and then zero action on actual issues affecting women.

Horridemma · 13/02/2018 20:26

If only it was my constituency.

The delicate trans child would be too scared to meet up with a group of real women to discuss real women issues. He would need his Labour minders to step in and to talk trans rights. Bit like Trump - he will rule by tweet 'get over it all you Cis I am here to stay ' followed by an eye lash flutter.

OvaHere · 13/02/2018 20:43

Which reminds me that Swim England have not responded to my question

I've had no reply to my complaint either.

GatoradeMeBitch · 13/02/2018 20:48

every one of you that leaves makes it harder for the rest of us

I don't agree. If women leave the Labour Party in droves, the Labour Party will have to take notice. And then they'll have to decide whether they would rather appeal to the "over 50%" or the "0.05%".

I am reconsidering the Lib Dems. I was furious when I voted for them on student fees only for them to be forced into backtracking once in a coalition, but now time has passed I can see they had little choice, I can also see that they tempered some of the Tories' excesses.

borntobequiet · 13/02/2018 21:02

I see in the OP this is characterised as a "debate". I remember "debates" at my convent school where we were allowed to talk about, say, the Virgin Birth, so long as we finished by saying that we all believed in it so it was True.
Same sort of made up bullshit, same requirement to abandon critical faculties and embrace the faith.

QuentinSummers · 13/02/2018 21:17

Lib dems are also enthusiastically on board with self I'D. I'm a member and had to fill out a right load of guff about how I "identified" when I joined. It has put me off being active. In fact I d8dnt vote for them last time but i am still happy to donate as they are the only pro-remain, centre ground option at the moment.

thebewilderness · 13/02/2018 21:40

every one of you that leaves makes it harder for the rest of us
I am astonished that a party that calls itself Labour has no effing clue how labor negotiations work.
Have they ever heard of a walk out? A strike? Who the eff are these people?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/02/2018 22:00

bewilderness women aren't supposed to engage in assertive negotiation. We're supposed to keep making the tea and stuffing the envelopes and not making anything harder for anyone else.

Doobigetta · 13/02/2018 22:02

I am currently the only woman on a LibDem Facebook group thread about self ID. I've been TERFed, "cis"sed, transphobed, mansplained and called a horrid bully. It's lonely on there. Came here for some respite and now apparently it's comrade or nothing Confused

Please keep posting, whatever party you support. This is bigger.

thebewilderness · 13/02/2018 22:02

Well fiddle dee dee, I have been doing it rong all these years.

mirialis · 13/02/2018 22:16

Being "at the sharp end"....

I'm relatively well-off. Not weatlhy by any stretch but I have a lot of back up before I need to go to food banks. So I'm ok. Couldn't afford something like IVF but not going to starve. But a pp posted a link above and said "don't look at the Carmen video about the things transwomen want you to know" and of course I had to have a look.... and part of Carmen's back up for "transwomen are women" shit is that there is a significant number of women today who are choosing or who can't have children so this doesn't make transwomen any less than women.

FUCK OFF.

I have low level fertility issues as does my husband and together they are creating a pretty major level fertility issue for us as a couple - unsurprisingly the treatment we are receiving for this is very different because he is a man and I am a woman. Fuck off with pushing medicine to implant a uterus into a man, fuck off with creating drug induced lactation in a man etc. I might not be at the sharp end of poverty but I am at the sharp end of wanting research and tax-payer funding to go toward biological women and biological men having appropriate treatment for their fertility issues IF fertility issues are something to be funded by tax payers. Developments are likely to come too late for me but I will be fucking furious if development money is spent on "trans fertility".

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/02/2018 22:17

well fiddle dee dee

Good answer

I'm thinking 'I'd love to help but unfortunately my femininity has been appropriated'

Thank you I didnt know that!
I really hope it doesnt come to that though.

ILikeBigCrisps · 14/02/2018 00:08

I think whoever mentioned a strike is onto something

ILikeBigCrisps · 14/02/2018 00:09

I mean, for a start almost every woman I have ever met has joked about it. Has there ever been a mass down tools by women?

CurriedNoodle · 14/02/2018 00:12

Jennifer James just blocked me on twitter...I was actually a fan.

All I put was a response to her somewhat ambiguous tweet about seeing lots of ignorant transphobia on her feed and wanting nothing to do with it.

I asked her to point it out because, forgive the cynicism, but I'm that used to shouts of transphobia being used to shut down reasoned debate.

And now I'm blocked?

fishdogpancakes · 14/02/2018 00:19

I'm thinking it's going to give her splinters in the bum all this fence sitting. Like you Curried I was a fan and went on to follow her when I spotted THAT tweet and her reply to you. Seems a bit all over the place so I backed away slowly.

I've been blocked by lily Madogan swells neutral chest with pride

I thought Labour supported free speech? Seems not. Ah well better fetch out the pinny and go shine the doorstep. It's going to be a bit grim around here for a while.

LadyMcLadyCrisps · 14/02/2018 00:25

Jennifer, seriously, are you just playing both sides against the middle here?

God, so glad I didnt donate! Confused

Spectator article: Don't fall for it people
CurriedNoodle · 14/02/2018 00:28

I actually couldn't even read her reply to me. I was blocked before I even saw it.

I was just trying to point out that baseless shrieks of 'transphobia' is what has got us in the mess in the first place. Fair enough if it is something purely hateful but all too often I've seen it used solely to make women shut up and sit down.

I was surprised to see it coming from JJ.

fishdogpancakes · 14/02/2018 00:30

Strike day on March 1st? Meet up in our local towns? Where would we target?

LadyMcLadyCrisps · 14/02/2018 00:34

I am honestly shocked by this bizarre tweet, the Doublethink is strong here... What transphobia is she referring to? Mumsnet?

LadyMcLadyCrisps · 14/02/2018 00:35

She didnt actually reply to you Curried, she just blocked you it seems! Confused

ScienceIsTruth · 14/02/2018 00:43

I don't really support any particular party, but I will vote for whoever denounces this self ID crap.
