Comrades,

The framing of the self-id debate as 'Corbynistas vs. Mumsnet' is a deliberate tactic by the right wing propaganda machine and done to undermine Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party and paint it as hopelessly divided. We're not.

It is important to remember that only a Corbyn gov't will lift women out of poverty, build homes, invest in the economy, make tuition fees free and stop invading the Middle East. Jeremy, though he doesn't hold our position, is the only Labour MP who has not only come out and said that women are entitled to a debate and to campaign against self-id, but that we have a right to raise money to see if the Equalities Act 2010 exemptions are being misused by AWS.

Hope everyone is well. Mumsnet you are indeed mighty.

Those at the sharp end will draw confort from the knowledge they are part of a larger issue.

What does this even mean??!!

Stop with the meaningless slogans & soundbites - they're nonsensical.

TerfyMcTerface · 13/02/2018 16:12

makeourfuture

The slogans you keep posting here have all the terse and thought-free hallmarks of newspeak. That doesn't really say much for the regime you support.

Everyonematters · 13/02/2018 16:13

KERALA keep telling people about it, the more people who know, the more political pressure will build up.

Why not ask the friend about it? Tell them your concerns and ask for reassurance. Either you will get that or help them think through the implications.

Make it known where you can that you will be voting based on this. If on twitter for eg there is #labourlosingwomen or when people come to canvas.

The game is to raise awareness and build political pressure for change so there is a party you CAN vote for.

CurriedNoodle · 13/02/2018 16:14

I don't think you are quite understanding makeourfuture bot.

If the Tory party state that they will not back self ID, that my children will be kept safe from sterilisation and dogma at school, and that a penis is not a female organ then I will vote for them.

Even if they do for some strange reason decide to steal my wheelchair. (Though hyperbolic party vs party rhetoric only divides women, we must, and already seem to be, rising above it)

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 13/02/2018 16:15

Those at the sharp end will draw confort from the knowledge they are part of a larger issue

When there is no longer the term women then we cant name the problems with massive parts of our society

And that will cut both ways

I appreciate that it doesn't matter to you make

TriniRedVelvet · 13/02/2018 16:17

"comrades" is certainly telling of the leanings of you and perhaps your party. No thanks.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 13/02/2018 16:20

comrades makes me think of Wolfie Smith

Everyonematters · 13/02/2018 16:25

Lol at Curried 's post.

Women give up your rights - or the Tories will steal your wheelchairs!

Fortheloveofscience · 13/02/2018 16:27

Just goes to show you shouldn’t put people on a pedestal.

JJ has done fabulous work with the fundraiser, and I think AWS in the Labour party is a really sensible place to take a stand. I don’t agree with her politics, but that’s ok - people are allowed to agree on some issues and not others and when it’s something as serious as this of course it’s going to have cross-party support.

However, it also amuses me slightly that she seems to have fallen into the trap of assuming mumsetters are homogeneous and will do/think as we’re told. Tends to result in people getting squashed quite quickly - please don’t take it personally Jen, I for one am happy to be behind your campaign even if you are a C*rbynista Grin.

WiseDad · 13/02/2018 16:32

Aye. I spotted the comrades and instantly thought of militant movements. Not a great way to start any effort to persuade anyone not aligned with your, strange, worldview.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 13/02/2018 16:38

I too will gladly sit on the floor while my children retain their gonads. Grin

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 13/02/2018 16:41

Oh and I got a (very quick!) reply from my mp, gender politics is apparently complicated but they will "consider my thoughts" while they fight their various other crusades. Tbh they sounded utterly downtrodden about the whole thing

makeourfuture · 13/02/2018 16:50

It's funny. Humour.

But maybe everyone isn't able to make sacrifices.

Everyonematters · 13/02/2018 16:54

What sacrifices are you making make?

Terftastic · 13/02/2018 16:57

makeourfuture - you're asking us to sacrifice women's rights ffs - rights that have been fought for and won over generations of oppression.

Get to fuck. I will vote for no party that throws women's rights away.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/02/2018 16:57

Make drew the short straw and ended with the MN slot.

It’s a sacrifice to the cause.

Terftastic · 13/02/2018 16:57

*won over generations after centuries of oppression.

CurriedNoodle · 13/02/2018 17:00

But maybe everyone isn't able to make sacrifices

Besides my first born (and possibly my wheelchair) there is nothing I wouldn't sacrifice to protect women's rights.

I think Labour is going to have a cold shock when they realise exactly how many women there are that feel the same.

OlennasWimple · 13/02/2018 17:18

How can we analyse the impact of important policies such as austerity measures if we can't name how it affects different groups of people? Eg it would be impossible to produce this sort of analysis if everyone can self-ID

Is that a sacrifice we should make?

newyearsameme80 · 13/02/2018 17:26

Sacrifice women's rights for a Labour victory? Get to fuck.

TheUterati · 13/02/2018 17:26

Those at the sharp end will draw comfort from the knowledge they are part of a larger issue

I think it means that we will joyfully and willingly agree to be sacrificed, happy and fulfilled that we are doing so for a nobler cause, the bigger picture, the really important issues.

Nope. Not me.

LindyHopSkipRunner · 13/02/2018 17:26

@CurriedNoodle would you mind posting or sending me the text of your email? I imagine it's really excellent and worth adapting to my constituency. Thank you.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/02/2018 17:28

Sacrifice women's rights for a Labour victory? Get to fuck

As well as the bullying and anti-semitism.

Why would anyone want to vote for a party like that?

IfNot · 13/02/2018 17:30

I'm a lifelong Labour voter, from a long line of Union organisers and Labour Party members.
I'm done.
I want All Woman Shortlists for WOMEN. NOT men in frocks, and NOT men in frocks with a GRC. Sorry, but that's how it should be.
I don't know who this Jennifer person is, but she can rest assured that I will NEVER vote Labour as long as Jeremy Corbyn and his pack of anti Semitic, woman hating, slogan spewing robots are in charge.
I'm stealing the idea of spoiling my ballot with a big pink lipstick dick.
And YY this is a cross party issue! I will applaud ANY MP, from ANY party who publicly opposes the self ID nonsense.

Bye Labour.

LindyHopSkipRunner · 13/02/2018 17:31

Btw on the issue of this:

"Any message written on a spoilt ballot must be read aloud at the count."

The messages aren't read out to the room at large, but are shown and read aloud in a loose 'huddle' by the Returning Officer or other senior Election Officer to all the candidates and their agents. Agreement is sought as to whether these ballot papers should be discarded or not. So yes, they can make their mark most certainly, especially if the election result is close.
