Just announced on their twitter and Facebook, Woman's Place UK are doing a meeting in London. If it's anything like the Bristol event it will sell out....

For me the three male transsexual speakers took a tiny proportion of time up, and it's one of the complexities of the proposed law changes that many transsexuals do not expect or demand to be called a woman. Nor do they really sign up to transgender, and are appalled at the current trans activists, and so have been campaigning for years, much longer than those of you criticising them here. See the work they do on twitter and you will realise how active they are in this.
Miranda Yardley doesn't care about pronouns, this is on his website.
@JaimesGoldenHand
We were not jeering and exclusionary, there was a lot of tension pre meeting about potential violence so the mood was largely relief and gentle ribbing. Anyway, thanks for telling us all we didn't do it to your satisfaction, good to get a telling off on a daily basis.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 28/02/2018 21:35

I love Miranda Yardley and he needs a fucking medal for the abuse he has endured.

thebewilderness · 28/02/2018 21:41

11th rule of misogyny: whatever women suffer from, men suffer from more.

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 21:44

@AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth

Fuck yeah. There were lots of people there I would be dishing out medals to. It would be the TERF Oscars.

I'm so proud they have kept going and going on this and it seems to be reaching a critical mass because of them.

That was the point of last night.

JaimesGoldenHand · 28/02/2018 21:49

I'm trying to get to the bottom of how I feel about things. I left early and was on my own so I just walked past the TRAs as quickly as possible. Perhaps it's the posting of videos and photos that doesn't sit right. Heyho, the world will keep turning.

I think it's important to be honest. I was one of the people for whom that was my first political meeting. I doubt I was the only newbie who wondered if she'd done the right thing in turning up. Never mind. Not worth worrying about any more - I've said my piece.

ToryFeminist · 28/02/2018 21:57

I'm just catching up with this - and have been interested to read the comments about the party politics involved.

I'm a Conservative voter and lapsed party member and I used to be an activist (hence my username) and I currently have a "political" related job. I bought a ticket for the WP meeting confident that I'd have the blessing of my gender critical (and stereotypically white, middle aged, male, Tory) boss.

But then I saw the speakers who were announced. No matter what the issue under discussion, I could not be seen to be attending. My job would be at risk. I felt as excluded as those people who fear doxxing, but not for the same reasons - it wasn't the subject matter my boss would condemn me for, but the political trend of all the people delivering the message.

I've been to loads of cross party political events aimed at women (eg The Parliament Project, 50:50 Parliament) and they've all had well balanced panels and speakers from across the political spectrum.

I understand that this has been initiated by Labour women, but there needs to be a wider representation in order to engage cross party. Like it or not, the strongest allies for this cause will be from the Right.

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 22:01

You did the right thing turning up.

The girls yelling were so hyped up and hoarse they were almost delirious. It was bizzare.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/02/2018 22:05

It was like they'd been hypnotised or something. Surely deep down they know women don't have cocks? Why are they letting themselves be dictated to by the likes of Lily Madigan? It was telling that there were no trans women protesting. Men expecting women to do the dirty work, as usual.

PositivelyPERF · 28/02/2018 22:06

But ToryFeminist how can it be more inclusive if conservative women don’t put themselves forward? If you read the thread there are women from all political backgrounds. I do agree with posters that say it needs to be a cross political movement. This affects women, not just conservative, labour, green, etc but ALL women.

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 22:09

It's beyond partisan, by a long way. Miles and miles.

Last night seemed to me like a lot of very experienced and competent people who have been plugging away for years at this to reach a big enough audience. To reach a critical mass.

It was interesting afterwards talking to some young women in the pub who said that the next meeting at Millwall in March will be about what we are really going to do, not just getting people to the point where they recognise and understand the fundamentals of what is happening to us all. Now we can start to do some real work they said and I think they are right. It felt like they were seeing a sea change in the numbers and the engagement. I agree with this perception. Mumsnet getting on board was a huge boost. It's one big team now.

ToryFeminist · 28/02/2018 22:26

But ToryFeminist how can it be more inclusive if conservative women don’t put themselves forward?

I know of several high profile Right wing gender critical feminists who would have welcomed an invitation to be on the panel.
That in turn would have encouraged women like me that it truly was cross-party.

CapnHaddock · 28/02/2018 22:28

Thats great Tory. Contact Womens Place. I'm sure they'd be delighted.

OrderOnline · 28/02/2018 22:30

Mumsnet getting on board was a huge boost. It's one big team now.

Mumsnet posters have been plugging away for years on this. I guess many new posters aren't aware.

There was a Tory women MP that tweeted support about a month ago, has she been asked by Tory posters to talk or attend a meeting? You want cross party, then organise your women to work with WPUK?

OrderOnline · 28/02/2018 22:31

Smile cross posts about cross party.

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 22:38

Conservative government involvement.
Miranda Yardley organised a meeting last year with David C Davis
See note attached. Perhaps a follow up?

www.david-davies.org.uk/sites/www.david-davies.org.uk/files/2017-11/Transgender%20Law%20Concerns.pdf

The next meeting I know of is part of a different series, called We need to talk.
www.facebook.com/DRradfem/
There are many groups working on this, there is no overarching organiser.
WEP have been slow.......

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 22:45

Meeting last year at House of Commons with Conservative host.

Apologies if I appear to be cross posting, I am attempting to share what I have found about the various strands to assist.

Catmint · 28/02/2018 22:45

Just responded to Scottish consultation, inspired by this thread. Still waiting to hear back from my Conservative MP. I will badger her.

Bloody well done. Inspirational stuff.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 28/02/2018 22:48

I think the issue is cross party. But I'm not sure A Woman's Place is. Or has to be.

It would be great if there were a centre-right version. People could organise something here.

thebewilderness · 28/02/2018 22:52

ToryFeminist it was your party who started the self ID ball rolling.
Your assertion that the women who are pushing back are mostly Labour and not bipartisan is no fault of their own.

Boxesandbuttons · 28/02/2018 22:55

I think it would be good to keep it cross-party. This is such an important battle to win, I think we would do better with all hands, and all viewpoints, on deck. I agree that those keen to involve others from other parties should involve themselves in suggesting and approaching connections though

ToryFeminist · 28/02/2018 22:55

I think the issue is cross party. But I'm not sure A Woman's Place is. Or has to be.

Fair enough - I was led to believe (on MN and by their own publicity) that AWP is/was cross-party.

OrderOnline · 28/02/2018 23:00

We are stronger together, see what WPUK say to your Tory speakers, helpers suggestions?

OrderOnline · 28/02/2018 23:03

The sooner this cesspit Maria Miller taken over by everyone else is cleared up the better, all responsible parties should help in the clean up!

mirandayardley · 28/02/2018 23:07

This is a matter of cross-party interest but the way the Labour Party are going they’re not going to last the year.

I didn’t organise the David Davies meeting, it was organised and coordinated by a woman.

FloraFox · 28/02/2018 23:09

have been campaigning for years, much longer than those of you criticising them here

Not sure what the point is here. How do you know how long I have been campaigning? If it is longer than the TIMs am I allowed to say what I think? Julia Long has been campaigning for women for a very long time. Is she allowed to make her point?
