''100 years on since the first women got the vote, there are still inequalities in the feminist movement. Why are some feminists still failing transwomen?

The evidence is there if you look for it – Transphobic leaflets being given out in the safe zone at Labour annual conference; prominent party feminists suggesting violence against transwomen; someone being kicked out of a Labour Women’s Network party for harassing a teenage trans woman; fundraisers being started to try and legally challenge Labours trans-inclusive policies; transwomen being excluded from Labour run women’s events by a women’s officer. The list goes on.

Most state their actions aren’t transphobic at all, but they are merely seeking the protection of women’s spaces. Some go further, suggesting transwomen are men’s right activists working purposely to erode women’s hard won protects. They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences and score social media points. And so I think its fair we question how much authority they have as cis-women to decide whether they are being transphobic.''

It continues in this vein.

Maryz

"Studies suggest near half of transexual youth will attempt suicide"

Are there any transexual youth? I thought transexual meant full physical transition.

Is lily claiming to be transexual now? Has she self-identified into a person who has had surgery?

I missed that. Is Lily identifying as 'Truscum' now?

That's not going to go down well. Many transsexuals are on Twitter desperately trying to make a distinction between them and the fetishists. Because it's giving them a bad name.

Is Lilly trying to keep that distinction as blurred as possible?

India Willoughby will not be happy.

I am laying bets that Lily will soon start talking about their gender dysphoria. Might as well line up those qualifications, whilst she can.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 01/02/2018 12:33

But isn't gender dysphoria transphobic????

Datun · 01/02/2018 12:34

It is! But why call yourself a transsexual?

Unless you are angling for those credentials.

Maryz · 01/02/2018 12:36

Everything's transphobic, isn't it? Except when Lily says it.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 01/02/2018 12:37

Watching with interest. And the crowdfunder is now over £22,000, which is more than a bit thanks to LM.

Brown, don't forget provision for welcoming the transaged into nurseries & schools.

iamawoman · 01/02/2018 12:42

Ciswomen!! I love the way it is always stated in a sneery way - as though us uterus / vagina fetishists are responsible for the oppression of genderconfusedmales

DullAndOld · 01/02/2018 12:46

he sounds like a right idiot.

MorrisZapp · 01/02/2018 13:12

Can some kind soul remind me why transgender hate transsexuals again?

MissMoneyPlant · 01/02/2018 13:13

AngryAttackKittens let's talk about the percentage of trans women who have narcissistic personality disorder, and/or at least one of the other Cluster B disorders. Because it's a lot (last study I saw was at least 50% for NPD plus a grab bag of other Cluster B disorders).

Also note that lying with no shred of guilt is a feature of most Cluster B disorders.

I realise you have said "most", I do hope you're excluding BPD from the last statement.

Please remember psychiatry is a dangerous weapon to start throwing around, unless you support it being used against you, too.

The whole concept of personality disorder is wrong, it includes people obviously suffering from trauma, and "cluster B" groups together these people (with a BPD diagnosis flung at them) with their abusers (NPD).

BPD is often used as the latest version of "hysteria", it's like a caricature rather than a diagnosis (if you self harm the diagnosis is practically guaranteed), there's so much subjective judgement involved. The best summing up of this I've heard is "Good abuse victim = PTSD, bad abuse victim = BPD". I'm sure there must be some really horrible people diagnosed with BPD out there, but all those I've interacted with have been particularly kind, caring, thoughtful people, trying to deal with their issues whilst being scapegoated and mistreated by psychiatry. (NAPALT!)

Essentially, of course loads of trans people would be diagnosed as BPD, because it's so often shorthand for "attention seeking waste of time". We may agree with this. But when traumatised women are also put in the "attention seeking waste of time" box, you start to realise endorsing this method of dismissing and silencing people might not be a great idea.

NPD - entirely different kettle of fish, as mentioned it should not be lumped in with BPD in any categorisation system.

Also, plenty of trans people may genuinely be traumatised, have suffered abuse etc, and there is a connection to their desire to transition. But obviously not a simple "they're all lying attention seekers and narcissists" situation.

Linda Bellos is one of the calmest people ever. I hate to think what stereotypes LilyLiam is relying on there....

Elendon · 01/02/2018 13:28

Transgender versus transsexual. It's about as possible as someone from Northern Europe claiming to be black. (you might get away with it, but ultimately you will be outed).

Transsexual are those who agree they are the sex they biologically are and wish to acquire the social perceptions of the opposite sex via surgery and hormones.

Elendon · 01/02/2018 13:32

Linda Bellos is a grandmother and has been misgendered whilst pregnant. She stated she would hit back if attacked. (though perhaps some who feel threatened by this statement would prefer Linda remain silent or just take the beating).

sexnotgender · 01/02/2018 13:42

I’m wondering if Lily is actually a Tory plant?

Stopmakingsense · 01/02/2018 13:55

MissMoneyPlant - can you tell me what the acronyms are? NAPALT
BPD NPD Thanks!

sexnotgender · 01/02/2018 13:58

The one comment on the article is rather good!

Agerbilatemycardigan · 01/02/2018 14:06

Another excellent comment was just added

Mrsmiguelcervantes · 01/02/2018 14:06

People need to stop giving Liam airtime. He has nothing interesting to say.

HomeTerf · 01/02/2018 14:14

That article...Angry

The fucking brass neck of bigging up the Equality Act in one breath and then spitting all over Jennifer James - who is trying to uphold it - in the next.

It's quite the breathtakingly narcissistic tactic to liken yourself to a an assassinated political icon (whose agenda didn't include eroding the hard-won rights of another oppressed group) Especially when you've never actually done much beyond bleating on twitter about how mean your mum is and how no one understands you.

OvaHere · 01/02/2018 14:23

I love how the article links the 'transphobic tweets' of Venice Allen and takes you straight to her twitter page with the pinned tweet of Madigan harassing her by meme Grin

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 01/02/2018 14:37

The Susan Dalgety article that backaftera2yearbreak posted was excellent. Dalgety gets straight to the heart of the matter.

OTOH, the article in The Independent was utter rubbish.

OvaHere · 01/02/2018 14:43

They already removed one of the highest rated comments on the article. By a man who was/is running as a candidate and stated he would not allow penises in the ladies room.

SecretHandshake · 01/02/2018 14:44

Hm, those two articles were not written by the same people.
