www.youngfabians.org.uk/transmisog

''100 years on since the first women got the vote, there are still inequalities in the feminist movement. Why are some feminists still failing transwomen?

The evidence is there if you look for it – Transphobic leaflets being given out in the safe zone at Labour annual conference; prominent party feminists suggesting violence against transwomen; someone being kicked out of a Labour Women’s Network party for harassing a teenage trans woman; fundraisers being started to try and legally challenge Labours trans-inclusive policies; transwomen being excluded from Labour run women’s events by a women’s officer. The list goes on.

Most state their actions aren’t transphobic at all, but they are merely seeking the protection of women’s spaces. Some go further, suggesting transwomen are men’s right activists working purposely to erode women’s hard won protects. They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences and score social media points. And so I think its fair we question how much authority they have as cis-women to decide whether they are being transphobic.''

It continues in this vein.

We really have to question whether women have the authority to decide what constitutes a woman.

I am getting so sick and tired - and ANGRY - about men telling women who and what they are. THey've done it since GEnesis, and they keep on f=doing it.

"I was raped." "No, you weren't. You're lying"

"I'm in pain." "No you're not, that's just what women have to put up with"

"I'm rational and logical." "No, you're not, You're an emotional woman."

And so on.

I hope to see some of you in Bristol next week!

@ lettuce

Can't remember where I saw the study, sorry! It was posted on a radfem blog.

Patodp · 01/02/2018 09:43

why are some feminists still failing transwomen?

Luckily, because the answer is because transwomen are not women and everyone with 2 brain cells reading the article KNOWS this, the question and therefore the whole article will just be dismissed and garbage by the majority of readers.

(Unless of course it's only circulated amongst his trans and trans-ally peers... not sure who reads youngfabians. Are they all youth lgbtabc types?)

stoneagefertilitydoll · 01/02/2018 09:50

So those affected get to determine if something's phobic. Excellent, then Lilly'll have no problem acknowledging that women are the ones with the authority to say if something's misogynistic.

This morning I am mostly outraged about Lily's constant referencing to being afraid of violence from Linda Bellos.

It's such a lot of dishonest, gaslighting, diversionary BULLSHIT. How fucking dare they?? A 20 year old physical male being physically intimidated by a woman who is almost 70?? That alone tells me they know NOTHING about the reality of being a woman, and the day-to-day low level awareness of physical threat that we've all gradually developed.

Sheesh. Now going to google kittens until my blood pressure returns to normal.

I predict #peaklily to be trending before June.

UpstartCrow · 01/02/2018 10:26

Lily supports transitioning children. I'd be interested to know how many left wing women support sterilising non gender conforming kids.

Taylor Saotome-Westlake makes sense too, in that article.
It crystallized something for me about my uneasiness about leaping on 'men in frocks getting aroused by femininity' -- in that provided a man (autogynephile, I guess, given that's his own term) keeps it private or between consenting adults, that's just fine. People can have their kinks. Carry on, chaps, have fun. It's when it impinges on other, non-consenting people that I have a problem with it.

Extra kudos to him for squeezing 'taxon' in there mid blog-post.

Other than that, I'll just follow Pidge round the boards agreeing, in a sort of Columbidae-based appreciation society.

Fekko · 01/02/2018 10:53

I only knew Linda Bellos by name and how poor Lilly was in fear of his life from her (from Lil himself). I wasn’t expecting an almost 70 year old grandmother (?).

Silly creature.

Take note dear Lily.

Collidascope · 01/02/2018 11:24

I can't be bothered reading the article again but think it was 72% of women who claimed to be comfortable or quite comfortable sharing public space with trans woman. I think the leading nature of the question, a desire to be kind and not on the "wrong side of history," a tendency to imagine trans women as Hayley from Coronation St rather than self-id ing Marie Dean wanking into stolen knickers, and the not exactly enthusiastic "quite comfortable" accounts for that. Ignoring all that though, if it was a fair statistic, 28% of women is still a lot of women. I don't know one woman who hasn't been sexually assaulted and harassed numerous times, and we shouldn't have to feel bad for not wanting men in spaces where we are vulnerable.

SuperSange · 01/02/2018 11:28

Cis-fucking what now? Off to cancel my membership. I forgot.

Maryz · 01/02/2018 11:34

"Studies suggest near half of transexual youth will attempt suicide"

Are there any transexual youth? I thought transexual meant full physical transition.

Is lily claiming to be transexual now? Has she self-identified into a person who has had surgery?

stoneagefertilitydoll · 01/02/2018 11:42

quite comfortable

That one gets my American colleagues all the time. In my experience, that's a non-committal answer to be polite.

What do you think of the new office chairs? Oh, they're quite comfortable (really means she doesn't find them either particularly comfortable or particularly uncomfortable, she just hasn't thought about it - or in some circumstances, they're excruciating but she doesn't feel she can say that). It's certainly not positive.

'quite comfortable' means that they're only partially comfortable, which means they're also partially uncomfortable - but because of the way the question is framed, you couldn't say that.

A proof-reader might have been advisable for that article.

MorrisZapp · 01/02/2018 11:56

Oh lily is ace isn't she. Look, her narcissistic monstrous ego is currently being stoked by frothing lefties with green hair, but it's like watching a car crash in slow motion.

She physically cannot steamroller like this without going off the rails very shortly, in a manner so explosive that Jezza will have nowhere to hide.

She says she wants to be the first trans MP. Happy days, bring it on, let's shine daylight on this utter fucking shitshow.

OvaHere · 01/02/2018 12:00

If LM wants to be an MP they will have start broadening their range of interests. Nobody will vote for an MP who is purely interested in trans issues. This will require leaving the internet for more than ten minutes and interacting with a lot of 'bigoted' people who have never heard of misgendering.

BrownBox · 01/02/2018 12:03

It all depends on which life script LM is living. If the Ugly Duckling LM is happy as long as the Swans accept LM... If it's the Emperor's New clothes, LM will keep going until they are humiliated as a national laughing stock... If Pinocchio...

MountainsofMars · 01/02/2018 12:12

self-id ing Marie Dean wanking into stolen knickers

And one of his victims actually did try to commit suicide. He's on hunger strike because he's not allowed hair straighteners - makes me so so angry.

Afternooncatnap · 01/02/2018 12:12

What's women getting the vote got to do with trans rights? Trans women already had the vote surely.

MorrisZapp · 01/02/2018 12:12

So true Ova. Can't wait to see Lily out on the stump and the doorsteps of Little Hitchington, preaching the socialist word.

If she steps outside whatever godforsaken student union she currently resides in, I suspect she'll need minders. And not because of ageing lesbians.

OvaHere · 01/02/2018 12:15

Although I look forward to seeing how Lily will weave transphobia into local traffic problems.

BrownBox · 01/02/2018 12:19

Although I look forward to seeing how Lily will weave transphobia into local traffic problems.

I can see it now, a campaign on specialist housing for the trans community, including adaptations for transabled.
