www.youngfabians.org.uk/transmisog

''100 years on since the first women got the vote, there are still inequalities in the feminist movement. Why are some feminists still failing transwomen?

The evidence is there if you look for it – Transphobic leaflets being given out in the safe zone at Labour annual conference; prominent party feminists suggesting violence against transwomen; someone being kicked out of a Labour Women’s Network party for harassing a teenage trans woman; fundraisers being started to try and legally challenge Labours trans-inclusive policies; transwomen being excluded from Labour run women’s events by a women’s officer. The list goes on.

Most state their actions aren’t transphobic at all, but they are merely seeking the protection of women’s spaces. Some go further, suggesting transwomen are men’s right activists working purposely to erode women’s hard won protects. They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences and score social media points. And so I think its fair we question how much authority they have as cis-women to decide whether they are being transphobic.''

It continues in this vein.

Are they just mocking us?

I think many of them are having a good long laugh at our expense.

Fekko · 02/02/2018 09:28

I’m very cross today.

SmurfOrTerf · 02/02/2018 10:04

Well I think I should go to my doctors. They insisted I could not continue on HRT as I'd been on it for 5 years and to continue with it would be damaging. If I tell them I am now a man do you think I'll get some ?
Madigan rash - brilliant

boatyardblues · 02/02/2018 10:27

but no permission from the wife is needed for a man to get a vasectomy).

Not sure this is true. Our GP wanted both DH and me at the appointment when he was referred for a vasectomy to make sure we were both on board with it, but perhaps that’s because we’re married.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/02/2018 10:30

Tell them you identify as being 25 and need your estrogen boosted to the appropriate levels to validate your age identity.

Traffig · 02/02/2018 12:00

I'm learning lots of new things here Grin

I too had a longing for a Bacon Tomato and Lettuce sandwich in the early hours whilst looking at the local cheaper housing on Rightmove being sold off for Buy to Lets.

Nyaff is new one to me and a great word when I looked it up.
Nyaff and the Rashes...... definitely a one hit Punk Band.Wink

I'm sick of the wee nyaff too.

Well if Linda B. feels that it is time to resurface, then that's a green light to go for me. Mostly, got my head around all this shite now. Thanks for being here all. Flowers

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 02/02/2018 12:25

Yes, that's pretty clear.

This whole process has had the effect of making implicit misogyny explicit enough that we can see much more clearly what we're up against

MissMoneyPlant · 02/02/2018 12:27

Smurf Is there not a legal case there? If you were a transwoman you'd get HRT forever... Tsk, all women should be treated the same!

Datun · 02/02/2018 13:15

Is there not a legal case there? If you were a transwoman you'd get HRT forever... Tsk, all women should be treated the same!

Sorry if it was the same Health Authority who give HRT to transwomen. It's SEX discrimination? You're being discriminated against on the basis of your sex.

If I was a billionaire, I would do nothing but take everyone to court over this!

And I'm the least litigious person there is.

NaturalWoman · 02/02/2018 14:12

Nyaff is a brilliant and utterly appropriate word Grin

JessicaEccles · 02/02/2018 14:24

Yes, I have had the same argument with my doctor. Even though I have two severe incurable autoimmune conditions- the effects of which are worsened during menopause.

If it's so bloody dangerous- how can children start hormones at 10 and continue for life?

OnTheList · 02/02/2018 16:17

They insisted I could not continue on HRT as I'd been on it for 5 years and to continue with it would be damaging. If I tell them I am now a man do you think I'll get some ?

So HRT for actual women is too dangerous long term, but for trans people its fine to be on it from like 18 years old to the day they die? really? That makes no sense. On top of that, surely its more dangerous to give cross sex hormones than it is to top up estrogen levels in a female person?! None of the current medical treatments make sense to me. If it is actually true that over 5 years on HRT is damaging for a female person, why is this being thrown out of the window for male people on 'HRT' (I hate when its referred to as that for men. Its not replacing anything...) or female people on testosterone?!

Maryz · 02/02/2018 16:50

Irrelevant question: what happens to male people on HRT when they reach the age the rest of us women enter menopause? Do they carry on with their hormones to the day they die? And if not, what happens? Do they go back to being older men (baldness, hairiness everywhere else, middle aged paunch etc etc). Have any studies been done on older people with long histories of hormone treatment and the dangers (if any) that brings?

MountainsofMars · 02/02/2018 17:53

@Maryz I wonder this too - particularly when a friend of mine posted something on FaceAche about feeling down *& low & no energy, and someone else posted "Menopause?" As my friend is a post-op transsexual, that is highly unlikely.

I snorted grimly and ignored ignored ignored but with affection - I really didn't want hurt my friend's feelings

I think she has an underlying depressive condition, unaffected by transition - or rather not improved by transition - but menopause??? BUt I'd guess that transwomen stay on synthetic female hormones for the rest of their lives.

PS as someone else said in here a while ago, transwomen don't take HRT - there's no element of replacement

OlennasWimple · 02/02/2018 18:43

Maryz - wouldn't it be rather unethical to keep some people on drugs that we know cause long term harm, in order to find out just how harmful they are? Hmm Perhaps those rumblings about Big Pharma driving the trans agenda have a point... (though they would surely push against self-ID, as "I am a woman because I fell like a woman" requires no medical intervention at all....)

OlennasWimple · 02/02/2018 19:09

LM has noted on Twitter that people are questioning who the author of the article really is and claiming that LM has a unique writing style.... Right.... Hmm

NataliaOsipova · 02/02/2018 19:14

Tell them you identify as being 25 and need your estrogen boosted to the appropriate levels to validate your age identity.

Why can't we do this? But the other way, which would actually cause a problem for the powers that be.

Why can't I identify as a pensioner? As a pensioner trapped in the body of a middle aged woman. I have friends who are pensioners. I even like going to the opera! I must therefore have been coercively assigned an age at birth. My biological age is no reflector of the real me. If I identify as an old woman, then I am an old woman.

....oh - and can I have my pension paid monthly please? And a bus pass for free travel? And a free TV licence. Lovely jubbly.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/02/2018 19:35

I should be able to get a purple rinse without work complaining, as I'm 82 on the inside. Don't you oppress me!

NataliaOsipova · 02/02/2018 19:48

Maybe this is the way to go though. Reductio ad absurdum. Accept all their premises.....and then apply them to a different area, like age, which would actually have a huge economic impact....

Traffig · 02/02/2018 19:51

Haha I saw this... there was a Rash suggestion that: some evil challengers even thought that it was ghost written by Owen Jones. Grin

Unique it most certainly is. Could not be more uniquer than wot it is.

Traffig · 02/02/2018 20:04

Oy! Self identifying older personages.Angry
Don't crowd my WASPI pension robbed, no fecking bus pass for another fecking five years space.
I fought for years for the right to push young natal women out of the way in my rush to the front of the queue.
These finely sharpened elbows are testimony to my struggle.

And some idiot even thought that suspicion was "sexist" as the implication was that a man would have had to have done it - well no, because Owen and Lils are the same sex Hmm

Traffig · 02/02/2018 20:16

I'd forgotten that bit, what a gem!
Has anyone seen them together ever? I'm beginning to suspect that they are the same person........Confused

The problem is that, seeing as we're not white men, people will think it's cute at best or just simply insane.

I actually said something along these lines to my boss' boss, stating that I identified as his paygrade rather than my own.

He basically laughed and said something along the lines of me being smart and witty and this being the reason why I was actually going to end up getting there the old-fashioned way.

My point is, no way in hell could I get him to take me seriously coming out with something like this. And we're talking someone who actually likes me; I'd expect the general public to be a lot worse.

... and if you can't get them to take you seriously, you're just being 'cute' ...

I really do identify as CEO of Megacorp though. Also as Sexiest Woman Alive and as HM the Queen.
