www.youngfabians.org.uk/transmisog

''100 years on since the first women got the vote, there are still inequalities in the feminist movement. Why are some feminists still failing transwomen?

The evidence is there if you look for it – Transphobic leaflets being given out in the safe zone at Labour annual conference; prominent party feminists suggesting violence against transwomen; someone being kicked out of a Labour Women’s Network party for harassing a teenage trans woman; fundraisers being started to try and legally challenge Labours trans-inclusive policies; transwomen being excluded from Labour run women’s events by a women’s officer. The list goes on.

Most state their actions aren’t transphobic at all, but they are merely seeking the protection of women’s spaces. Some go further, suggesting transwomen are men’s right activists working purposely to erode women’s hard won protects. They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences and score social media points. And so I think its fair we question how much authority they have as cis-women to decide whether they are being transphobic.''

It continues in this vein.

Madigan has been blessed by JC. So is untouchable. Even as they go after Linda Bellos, a black female with a long and impressive political history, for not towing the party line. Labour is the party of white middle-class male privilege. Which is why I left as a member and will not be voting for them.

Ereshkigal · 01/02/2018 22:33

Yes, distinctively poor.

This is a pretty clear indication that articles like this are Madigan trolling for the purpose of collecting "abuse" to feed to their followers. I think it's best not to focus too much on Madigan.

Charismam · 01/02/2018 22:48

there seems to be no end of these types now.

Can anybody link to that article in the catholic conservative of all places. It was linked in another thread after the women's march. It was a surprised noted on t'other thread that the journalist who GOT it was with the catholic conservative but I want to read it again, so I can explain, if it comes up, to a younger colleague who is always promoting trans this trans that on her fb page. one of these days I want to make her think.....

rosy71 · 01/02/2018 23:34

I couldn't work out what the connection between women getting the vote and transwomen might be.

Traffig · 01/02/2018 23:38

Late back here, just caught up with thread. A bit Shock with the medical model DSM/ICD proponents.

Some background on the political history of the anti psychiatry movement and why it came into being for starters, particularly with regards to Women might be helpful for the less aware.
Excellent posts @ Miss Moneyplant. You make the points so well.

The only diagnosis I would give Madigan is that: Madigan has found fleeting infamy in the cult of the personality. Madigan's (and several others} puppet masters aim is: to keep the chaos going long enough to get Labour to implode at its September Conference. That potential consequence for Labour will not be the fault of Women speaking up for Women, but the fault of the of the Madigan and co enablers, who are unable, or unwilling, to engage with what is being said.

Linda Bellos has returned to the public arena following the death of her amazing partner.
She is a shrewd and able woman and well connected and respected. Linda Bellos, as PP have said, has a solid and lengthy history of fighting for equality. She is no shrinking violet. She will not be going away any time soon. Her voice is as loud and clear as ever.
Madigan and co are way out of their league here. Hence, all they have is a dirty tricks campaign against a Woman who is older, wiser, and who also happens to be Black, Lesbian, and of Jewish heritage. The support she can call on, is not to be underestimated.

Madigan, in my view, is a liar. He will not have a Gender Recognition Certificate. As PP have said, the time line does not fit. It is a fairly straightforward process in the Court to get the paperwork finally sorted. However, prior to this, for an individual who genuinely wants to transition, for their own personal reasons, it is a long, painful, and difficult road.
It is not about, undermining Women, trampling over Womens Rights, going on hunger strike for hair straighteners, or being a pervert and using this route to get into a Women's prison.

Here is how a GRC currently works, and why Madigan will not be able to produce a GRC. Because Madigan, in my view, has not gone through the medical examinations, diagnoses and treatments presently set out.

Well, I've looked at it on my laptop and still can't see comments. Tried turning off my add blocker in case that had anything to do with it and that didn't work.

Oh, well. Confused

CAAKE · 02/02/2018 00:24

I think they've recently closed and removed the comments @just5morepeas !

Badgerthebodger · 02/02/2018 00:30

Could I politely ask for LMs tweets to be screenshotted as I am blocked and can’t see them.

just5morepeas · 02/02/2018 00:33

That would explain it then! Always too late to the party . . . xD

Maryz · 02/02/2018 00:34

Yes, they've removed all the comments.

I suppose that's one way to try to pretend people agree with the article [cynical]

womanhuman · 02/02/2018 00:38

I can still see comments.

If you’re on mobile they’re right at the bottom, way past all the ads and shit.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 02/02/2018 00:43

Managed to grab this post before it was deleted;

I'm sure the irony of flagging perfectly civil comments will be lost on the totes inclusive & progressive trans activists. They've a long list of censorious, reactionary behaviour.

lets try again.. for the 4th time..
There are untruths in this article.

  1. jennifer james fundraiser is not to 'ostracise trans people', it is to access a legal conversation about 'Self ID' which is not currently law or labour party policy but which Labour seems to be endorsing regardless, possibly illegally.
  2. linda bellos was talking about self defence, and did not and has never advocated physically attacking trans people. She is a respected feminist who has done more for the movement than Lily Madigan could ever dream of.
  3. Lily wasn't 'attacked for being trans', he was challenged by people who feel that a womans post should be taken by a woman, an uncontroversial opinion which trans activists try to frame as bigoted.
  4. Lily wasn't abused for being trans when he got the post of womens officer, he was called out for bullying his predecessor out of her post, a campaign of abuse so bad that the entire board of councillors quit in protest. The people trying to have the debate about gender are not 'transmisogynistic', they are simply saying that acceptance of trans people does not have to come at the expense of women. Take note of the focus on trans identifying males, this movement, the oxymoronic mantra of 'trans women are women' shows that the move for self ID is coming almost exclusively from trans identifying males and their allies. There is no big push coming from trans females. This is male entitlement, this is female erasure. lily has done precisely nothing for women since managing to convince a small room of people in his CLP that he would be the best choice to represent females in his constituency, he has focused entirely on trans issues. He has no Gender Recognition Certificate, he is neither a woman in reality or in law, this is the issue with self ID, and there are a myriad of legitimate reasons to oppose it. The current system protects against fakers, it offers a support structure and help with transitioning. Self ID opens to door to massive abuse of the system, as we are already seeing with male prisoners claiming to be women in order to get moved to a womens prison. Ian Huntley has claimed this, does anyone think that Ian Huntley should be sent to a womens prison? The issues around Self ID go a lot deeper than the simplistic 'live & let live' ethos that seems to be the drive behind most who have endorsed it. lets see if this comment lasts longer than half an hour this time.
ChattyLion · 02/02/2018 00:55

Yup comments are still there and the critiques are still ‘literally’ reasonable and factual about their concerns for women and girls. Just keep scrolling on down and down as far as you can go to get to them.

Women being blamed for not putting men first

same old crap we have our own issues that we want to deal with but once again men want to hold us back

HerFemaleness · 02/02/2018 01:09

Can we just pretend that Lily doesn't exist? Not a week goes by without a mention of Lily or a thread popping up. We know Lily thrives on this and is building up a bit of a cult of personality because Lily is the most persecuted person in the world ever even more than Nelson Mandela, and her hun bots are on constant lookout for any negative comment related to dearest Saint Lily.

I have a working theory that if Lily is no longer getting any attention then Lily will be dropped. It's the fact that Lily is a person of interest to us which means Lily continues to enjoy a level of influence far beyond Lily's talents and charisma would suggest Lily capable of.

ChattyLion · 02/02/2018 01:11

This BTL comment from the Indy is also good in linking to the wider issues to be worried about self ID (...if the AWS and Labour issues were not already worrying enough in themselves!) :

There are a lot of parallels between Milk’s experiences and mine as a young British transwoman.'

Except, Lily, you are NOT 'making coalitions' or 'encouraging solidarity' - certainly not with women, who are leaving Labour in droves because of the bullying tactics of transactivists and their allies within the party. You appear to have hijacked the position of women's officer in your CLP and made it all about trans, and mostly all about you. Women need and deserve decent representation at both local and national level. Frankly, you're not doing your job.

AWS are only legal on the grounds of the protected characteristic of sex. That means they are open to women and transwomen with a GRC. Self-ID for AWS breaches the Equality Act (Part 7, s.104). That's why Jennifer James's legal challenge has a real chance of success. The reason so many of us have donated, labour members or not, is because we can see as clear as day that it makes a total mockery of AWS if any man can tick a box to say he IDs as a woman and thus become eligible for inclusion on the list.

So it doesn't matter how many women you block, or put on a spreadsheet, or report to your party, or shame for being 'transphobic' - Labour are breaking the law. If you want to change the law that's a different process from voting at conference. Good luck with that. There's a reason the tories have kicked the GRA consultation into the long grass. It's because people are waking up to the implications of self-ID not only in 'fringe' issues like AWS but more widely, in things like changing facilities, schools, girl guides, hospital wards, choice of HCP, DV shelters, rape counselling, sports, support groups, prisons ...

If my cousin's daughter, who is 25, has a degree and a good job and is an entirely aware and intelligent young woman, went to the doctor and asked to be sterilised because she didn't want to have children, would they do that? They would not. Because she might change her mind with the passage of time. Is this a sensible response? Possibly.

I am 31, have 2 young children and have a disability that came on after the birth of my youngest. Because of my illness my husband had to give up work to care for me. I was told last week at the pain clinic that because I had a lot of operations in a short space of time, my main issue is a lot of scar tissue rubbing on the nerves in my guts, to put it bluntly. As the bulk of the pain is because of this, its something I will have for life. They were honest with me and said they would try other medications but they are unlikely to have much effect. So, this is my life now. In a lot of pain and unable to do much at all, and my husband cannot work so we rely on benefits (that after an assessment part of them have been taken away as miraculously I have been cured by the midwife who saw me Hmm I am appealing and will win though)

Despite all of this (and having 2 kids already) the doctor refused to sterylise me incase I changed my mind. I am shitting myself in case I do fall pregnant. The doctor assures me that the implant will be fine, but I know that its not 100% effective.

Meanwhile, children are being sterylized for being GNC. Its infuriating. And I am terrified for those children too. Many of them will regret it, and there is no going back.

I thought the below was a good comment BTL to the Angela Rayner MP article in the Indy, by pointing out to the Indy readership that the issues are a teeny bit more complicated for women than AR’s cheerleading of self ID lets on..

‘Dear Angela Rayner, have you realised thousands of women are leaving the Labour Party over this? There are agonised discussions re whether to risk another Tory government rather than support a party that is throwing women under the bus? See #labourlosingwomen for example.

Trans rights are covered under the 2004 and 2010 Equality Acts. Self-identification is a whole other ball game. Those identifying as transgender are now a much wider group than those who have no choice but to get a GRC, 'Trans' now includes many people who have zero intention of proceeding to surgery and hormones, and also includes many mostly young people who are resisting the old gender stereotypes that were challenged in the 70s and 80s, but are now calling themselves genderqueer or nonbinary etc.

It can be really really difficult for a young lesbian to resist the peer pressure to identify as a transman, as doing that brings congratulations and entry to an out-group that has a lot of kudos. So it's onto cross-sex hormones and amputations, and no going back, even if later they decide it's a mistake - a lifetime beard and bald head and man's voice won't go away.

What the hell are we doing transing children, diagnosing them at age ten? Who are these parents that would rather have a trans child than a gay one?

Women's rights will be OVER with self ID. If a man can become a woman by saying so, women are no longer in a protected category. Intact men in showers, prisons, refuges, women's centres, caring for vulnerable elders, taking places on AllWomen Shortlists... Say goodbye to women's sports too. Yes the GRA needs revisions, but self-ID will be a disaster. Please meet some of the people who have done a lot of work on this and listen to their thoughts. At the moment we are being silenced, as trying to meet to discuss it has to be done in secret. Are people who shout down debate (see the trans tag #nodebate), who you want to listen to exclusively? The committee discussing the GRA has refused to meet women's groups, they have only heard from pro-trans groups including some which have been discredited. It seems simple, lets support people who need help, but there is so much more than this going on.’

Terfinater · 02/02/2018 01:32

I wonder how many women have now left the Labour party because of him? I quit when he was given that role.
