Here's the URL: please do the consultation. (I think this has been posted before, but it bears repeating.)
consult.gov.scot/family-law/review-of-the-gender-recognition-act-2004/
To note:

  1. At the end, you will be asked whether you are resident in Scotland, the rest of the UK, or elsewhere - i.e. you don't have to be in Scotland, though obviously it's more important to be heard if you are.
  2. You will also be asked whether you want your response published with your name, without your name, or not at all - if that makes a difference to how you write your answers, it might be helpful to know this up front. Closes on March 1st, but don't wait till then!

Done! A challenge but I did my best. Every voice helps.

AuntyElle · 28/02/2018 09:47

Bumping this as you can still join in until the deadline of 5pm tomorrow (Thursday, 1 March).

norijunior · 28/02/2018 10:38

Done.

FreezerBird · 28/02/2018 12:36

Done. I knew I'd left it late so I was planning just to click the yes/no boxes but I got so cross I left lots of comments.

It did feel good to do something rather than just getting really wound up.

senua · 28/02/2018 14:27

Done.
It was hard work - took about an hour to rant complete.

I'm kicking myself now, though. I wish I had thought to tell the Scottish Government that I self-identify as 75 years old man and would like my pension now tyvm. And if they tried to tell me that my biology says that I am several years short of that age then I would denounce them as chrono-phobic and I'll see them in court.

I'm guessing that Governments will only call this idiocy for what it is when it starts costing them money.

ArcheryAnnie · 28/02/2018 15:10

I've just done this, after being reminded to do so yesterday. I'd started it before, but then it came to the last page and the "can this be published under your name?" and I chickened out. Now I am at the point where I don't give a shit. Publish and be damned.

InfiniteCurve · 28/02/2018 16:45

Done.I don't think it was my best work - there is a lot more I'd have liked to say and I know I could have said it better.
But it's done.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 28/02/2018 16:50

Done.
My primary aged kid has a friend who identifies as a helicopter.
Kid himself wants to identify as a 30 year old man so he can leave school.
Children know this is silly.

Why are 6 people in a pressure group determining policy for a whole nation?

LinghamStyle · 28/02/2018 16:52

I came on to the Feminist board to ask for help as I'm struggling to understand some of the questions. I thought it was just me Confused

Boxesandbuttons · 28/02/2018 17:31

There is a guide here: fairplayforwomen.com/scotland/

womanhuman · 28/02/2018 17:38

Just done it.

My opening response was gender is a crock and not the gov’s business and sex is unchangeable so they know where I stand from the off. 😀

ReluctantCamper · 28/02/2018 17:43

Yes I really struggled with should we recognise non binary people? I ended up saying why the hell not? If you're going to accept gender in law why not accept all 71 Facebook genders?

I don't think it was my finest work but I did struggle with the confirmation bias in the questions.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/02/2018 17:49

I'm glad it wasn't just me who noticed them... Reluctant. I was just a tad angry by about page 4... told them exactly why in the feedback pages Smile

Whinberry · 28/02/2018 18:01

My job for this evening though the SNP vote en masse and pander to the greens to get a majority so I don't have much faith in the process.

All Scottish Government consultations are biased and stuffed with leading questions. Last year there was an education consultation where the SNP education minister (John Swinney) was forced to point out that several thousand people and organisations, including more than 500 teaching professionals, had got the answers wrong so they were going ahead anyway...

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 28/02/2018 18:04

Completed this, glad I did as I had never considered spouse agreement and grounds for divorce, it hadn't occurred to me.

shetheyhim · 28/02/2018 18:25

Done.

Not sure I answered 'right'. All very confusing but I made the most of the comment boxes to explain my overall reservations so that should come across loud and clear.

coleridge · 28/02/2018 18:28

Already filled this in but a bit regretful that I didn't talk more about specific ramifications e.g. sport, prisons, old ladies desperately wanting female carers and being cruelly gaslighted that their male carer is really female, etc.

It's the gaslighting, especially of vulnerable people, that really gets me angry. If anyone has yet to fill it in, please mention a few of these examples and how self-ID would mean you would be forced to contend with female-identified males in these positions? Thanks.

Bump again.
Any questions, the hivemind's something to behold in here!

Popchyk · 01/03/2018 10:11

If you don't have time to add any comments to the survey, that's fine. Just answer Yes/No/Don't Know to the questions.

Should be able to do it very quickly then.

Otherwise this link fairplayforwomen.com/scotland/ is really handy if you do want to put comments.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/03/2018 10:45

Also you can use it in a way that allows you to put your point across - there's lots of comment boxes including one at the end where you can give your thoughts. You don't have to be a prisoner to the awful design of the survey and you can also comment on that at the end.
