Another article in the Times - Women shelters to get transgender staff.
Can’t copy and paste at the moment as going out the door. Justine Grening says that this time they might need to listen more... Hmm

Oh does she now? Good of her.

Justine Greening, the former equalities minister who drove the sex-change reforms, admitted for the first time last night that the concerns of women’s groups must be taken more into account.

She told The Sunday Times she still supported change, but stressed that the government should be “absolutely listening to the voices of women’s groups in all this and their concerns”.

LangCleg · 04/02/2018 10:00

Amber Rudd on Marr - after a lot of slightly worrying waffle - just unequivocally confirmed that the Tories won't be removing single sex exemptions from the Equality Act, whatever the outcome with the GRA consultations.

Battleax · 04/02/2018 10:01

That's something.

DodoPatrol · 04/02/2018 10:29

Thank heavens for small mercies.
I would happily support the idea of having a small number of peripatetic transgender staff specifically to support the different needs of transgender people who have been attacked, but I can’t see how the logistics would work.

titchy · 04/02/2018 10:35

Never thought I'd line something Amber said!

Slight sidetrack - but given that transwomen who need rape counselling will themselves have been raped by a male, wouldn't they also be unhappy about receiving counselling from a male, albeit a trans one?

YesItsADebate · 04/02/2018 10:53

Front page of the BBC News website this morning. Aargh! Why is this being presented as women vs. trans? I don’t feel like it’s getting across very well that it’s women vs. men seeking to take advantage of self-ID.

DodoPatrol · 04/02/2018 11:00

I don’t honestly know, titchy. I can’t pretend to speak for any trans woman, as I’m not one. I suspect it might depend on the individual.

LangCleg · 04/02/2018 11:08

Honestly? Don't know. Don't care. They can sweat blood and tears for their own services and organise them how they like. Nothing to do with me.

But they won't do that because they are such a bunch of narcissistic self-serving arseholes that they all just have their own GoFundMes and Patreons instead of raising money for dedicated services for other people like them. They just colonise ours instead.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/02/2018 11:28

Yeah. That Women's Aid thing isn't 'an extraordinarily difficult decision' is it? Just don't do it. Precautionary principle innit? There, solved it for you.

DickTERFin · 04/02/2018 12:51

against - That was interesting, thanks for posting.

Well that BBC thing made a good job of framing it as "whining women" against "progressive young woke people". Shouldn't really expect anything different from the beeb though.

hipsterfun · 04/02/2018 14:41

Late to the news but pleased to see young Tara finally had their collar felt.

Battleax · 04/02/2018 14:48

Precautionary principle innit?

That would make a good t shirt Grin

Whoever is TurfyMcTurfFace on Twitter - loving your work there Smile

BelaLugosisShed · 04/02/2018 16:45

I think we should have some kind of mumsnet marker on our twitter id’s .
It’s funny, I always use David C Page’s work in my arguments with the scientific fantasists, every single time I am either blocked or ignored.

AreYouOrHaveYouEverBeenATERF · 04/02/2018 16:57

I'm surprised we haven't had more TRAs over here - but perhaps the fact that this is a debate forum - and their #NoDebate just won't work here - and they can't block us - keeps them away.

They actually have to talk to us here - and very quickly their mantras are deflated.

OvaHere · 04/02/2018 17:18

I quite often want to link some of the clear, concise threads here when I am arguing elsewhere but I usually just repeat some of the points.

I'm sure many TRAs are aware of MN but I'm always wary of bringing a boatload of GF to this space. I don't often see MN Fem threads linked by others either so perhaps we are all of a similar mind.

pamish · 04/02/2018 18:21

I sent a link to the thread to Pilgrim Tucker. She needs this sanity.
.

thebewilderness · 04/02/2018 19:16

On the thread about the right to request medical practitioners of the same sex, a few weeks or days ago, a number of men said they always ask for a female doctor for reasons of personal preference which may have something to do with childhood experiences that are nobodies business.

nauticant · 04/02/2018 20:54

I've seen it happen on other forums, with the cocky idea that "we're better than them, we'll out-argue them" but what happens is that the GF invaders don't want to argue, they want to spoil, and eventually they succeed because decent posters see the good being drowned out by shit and walk away. Never invite arseholes to come and stay.

NotALabourMemberImAfraidLads · 05/02/2018 00:10

Full list of those involved in the breach of Labour members' data now published:

www.gofundme.com/fighting-for-female-representatives?viewupdates=1

Any update yet from the ICO or the police on this crime? Have Unison or Unite responded about their officials' involvement in this and how they are planning to meet their legal duty to ensure their members' data is protected?

OvaHere · 05/02/2018 00:16

That's a lot of names Shock

Is it a good idea legally speaking to have published those? Will it be viewed as problematic as the Terf List? I realise nobody is trying to kick out the people on JJ list but just wondering.

NotALabourMemberImAfraidLads · 05/02/2018 00:36

I'm definitely not an expert but I think one of the key issues re the list they have been compiling is that they have people working in Labour's membership services department who are misusing the official Labour membership records to access and then publish sensitive data on who is a Labour member (along with positions held, constituency etc). The Labour Party as an organisation is bound by rules on how it handles the information provided to it by its members.

OvaHere · 05/02/2018 00:46

Thanks for the explanation. That sounds pretty bad if so.
