I'm collecting phrases that help explain the issue aka peak trans a man.

Dh isn't especially interested- he's sick of labour and struggles with the other parties for other reasons. He's been tired of the guardian on and of for these reasons too; not any feminist reasins.

He's one of 3 boys and a very patriarchal family, though very kind and relaxed - mother never worked, never raised her voice etc. (In fact I'm not sure what she's actually interested in, no hobbies just loves grand children and the church).

If I discussed all this with him I do think he'd agree but not see any wider political impact till I pointed it out.

So he's simply not tuned into how life is for women. We have a boy and another on the way, so I've resolved to absolutely make sure they are aware of things as they grow up.

I also have issues about how all this (patriarchy, gender stereotypes, masculinity etc) impacts young boys as I really do think many of the issues we deal with in feminism can be tracked back to those early experiences for boys and girls.

'We've begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters.' Gloria Steinman (and insert many more of her quotes here!)

This one is apt for me at the mo:

'The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.'

Yes the sports thing is very good for peak transing men,

Show them this clip from Joe Rogan

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 10:29

DH was raised by a single mother from when he was fairly young and I've been chipping away at his male socialization blinders for 20 years so he got it right away when I started talking about this stuff. For men for whom trying to see things from women's perspective is a new thing it will probably take a woman or girl they know getting caught in the crossfire for it to sink in.

TheNerevarine · 27/01/2018 10:42

@Crusty, this list of rights women are set to lose really put things into perspective for me. It doesn't seem to have been retweeted that much, so it might have got lost along the way.

I totally get why people are leaving Labour. My current position is stay in the party and vote for sense to be restored. But I can't vote for a party that is doing what Labour is doing at the moment.

crustychristmastree · 27/01/2018 10:50

Thanks @TheNerevarine and assigned that joe rogan thing is great!

Thermostatpolice · 27/01/2018 10:53

My DH got it straight away but was totally unaware until I told him.

Re. Labour, MIL was a Labour activist for most of her life. His first reaction was sadness that, in the end, the party she was so committed to would have so little respect for women.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 10:53

I don't know if it's since been deleted but there used to be a video online of the fight where Fallon Fox broke his opponent's orbital bone. You could hear the crowd cheering him on. If that doesn't peak trans any reluctant men there may be no hope for them.

AlllWomenShortbreads · 27/01/2018 11:00

AreyouorHaveyoueverBeen seriously i don’t understand how Labour MPs - shadow cabinet members- stooping this scandalously low is not front page news.
It’s behaviour massively below the office of an MP and surely there are rules against this? (I am not saying private individuals or party members are Ok to do it but holy fuck, MPs?!!)
I am livid and will be writing to my Labour MP about it.
I am not a party member but I am a lifelong Labour voter and have spent days helping them with delivering leaflets for local and GEs. Fuck that utterly.

Labour HQ need come out fast with an absolute unequivocal condemnation of this shitlist and all the self ID bullshit.
What an utter shower.

Great article flaps thanks

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 27/01/2018 11:29

There was a drop the T petition (that I have plugged at every given opportunity!), but I think it has expired now?

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 27/01/2018 11:31

Here, actually it doesn't look expired (though my change.org thinks I'm Spanish for some reason, so it's hard to check Grin )

TheNerevarine · 27/01/2018 11:42

Yy, excellent article, Flaps. thanks for sharing. The Fallon Fox video was still up yesterday as it was one of the links I sent my mum. I can dig out the link if anyone wants it but think I searched Fallon Fox + occipital to find it.

pamish · 27/01/2018 12:20

This article has just been sent my way and we dont need more than this. Just send to all MPs etc.

Am rushing out or i would do a summary.

TheNerevarine · 27/01/2018 13:46

So many intelligent well-reasoned articles starting to come out.

Like the new username?

Ah, are you my sibling? Grin

ReluctantCamper · 27/01/2018 17:43

Someone yesterday was saying that they'd like to see more 'old school' Transwomen objecting to self ID and the current Transwomen are women' mantra. May I draw your attention to this rather magnificent twitter thread where a TW politely and respectfully challenges a virtue signalling trans ally, who could not back off fast enough. It cheered me up no end.

flapsDentata · 27/01/2018 17:47

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5319953/Labour-female-activist-suspended-party.html

The Mail are on the case now. Excellent.

Butterymuffin · 27/01/2018 18:03

Debbie Hayton is marvellous. She is so articulate. Great trans woman to have no side.

Butterymuffin · 27/01/2018 18:04

'On side' I meant, not 'no side'..

ReluctantCamper · 27/01/2018 18:06

yep, seriously impressive. calm and articulate.

sexnotgender · 27/01/2018 18:22

I’ve commented on that daily Mail article, let’s see if it gets published!!

BeatriceJoanna · 27/01/2018 18:27

I discovered today that I've been blocked by a lot of LP members with whom I have never interacted (including a certain women's officer) and so I'm thinking I must be on at least one list.

I've been dithering about cancelling my membership - I was reluctant because I've been a member for years and have voted Labour all my life. I mean even Blair and Iraq didn't make me feel as hopeless as this. But I'm thinking if I'm going to get suspended at some point anyway there doesn't seem much point in continuing. So many people in Labour are just calling 'bigot' and blocking.

Not much comradeship there at all. Sad

blackdoggotmytongue · 27/01/2018 18:39

Eh? That mail article says JJ was removed for using social media, which is in breach of the party’s rules.
So, erm, wtaf was the Labour Against Transphobia group? Anyone got a link to the actual social media rule related?
