Most of the comments on daily Mail article are backing Jennifer.

OnTheList · 27/01/2018 18:42

The Guardian is going to have to report on this soon surely, with most other places doing it. I wonder how they will spin this as nasty feminists, when even the gofundme page says that we support transpeople..just that 'self defining' woman is ridiculous.

TheNerevarine · 27/01/2018 19:05

@blackdog, I think it means it was the content of her tweets that was in breach of the rules. That threw me too, but I think it's just poor wording. It's great that they've covered this, and she comes across as sensible and rational, but did anyone else get a bit of a sitting-on-the-fence vibe from the article?

@Beatrice, I reckon it's worth staying on a bit longer yet. Things are starting to snowball and I think a lot of people aren't aware of the implications of self-ID yet.

The blocking thing baffles me though. It just seems so unprofessional and cowardly to block people purely because you don't agree with their (civilly worded) opinion.

Ekphrasis · 27/01/2018 20:05

I didn't look much this week but there seem to be more men listed on the go fund me page... wonder if that's the media?

womanhuman · 27/01/2018 20:24

I bought the Times today and left it sitting. Came home to DH excitedly telling me that my ‘transgender thing was in the paper’.

Well done everyone who has got it out there. 😀 👏 👏 👏

bellabelly · 27/01/2018 20:45

That is great news! We will not shut up!

thebewilderness · 27/01/2018 21:20

For the men who do not seem to understand how it would affect them I suggest Jazz Jennings as a cautionary tale for them.

LadyDickHead · 27/01/2018 22:24

Well after DH pretty much writing me off as a bigot yesterday, I think I've just successfully peak transed him, thanks to the hunger striking prisoner Marie Dean.

Whinberry · 27/01/2018 22:54

Big'ot n. Person intolerant or not receptive to the ideas of others (esp. on religion, race etc.)

It always amazes me that it is those most strident in their views and most closed to any conversation are the ones who call others bigoted.

Mner · 27/01/2018 23:02

It is amazing how many people are picking up the story now! Really well done!

pamish · 28/01/2018 00:46

The gofundme site now has a list of 50+ anti-self-ID Labour people who have outed themselves on the front page.

I'll add myself in the morning now I've had a bit of a think. If we could make it 1000....

boatyardblues · 28/01/2018 00:52

I noticed the Daily Mail included the GoFundMe link in their article, which may well boost donations.

RedToothBrush · 28/01/2018 01:18

David Davis @ davidtcdavis
My “transphobic” view is that having a penis makes you male. You may disagree but implied use of word a “cunt” is abusive & misogynistic. You’re an official Conservative group. We are against social media abuse. I’ll be making official complaint to @BrandonLewis on Monday.

Wow!
Something of an irony alert this is coming from David (the welsh one not the brexit one) Davis, but fair play to him.

Could this be the beginnings of a revolt? Are the people going to rise up against the ridiculous regime that calls people 'transphobes' for saying a penis is male..?

I'm hopeful.

Having read more and more about this over the past few days - I feel the TRA's actions here have been underhand, in trying to sneak through legal changes - and yelling 'transphobia' at anyone who wants to discuss it.

The implications of the GRA and self identification have not been properly thought through - and most people seemingly have no idea of the repercussions. I'm convinced that most ordinary voters do not autogynephiles in the changing rooms with their teenage daughters. Or any woman come to that.

TRA's have now yelled TERF and transphobe to so many people that the words have lost all meaning.

AlabamaShakes · 28/01/2018 09:41

Just delurking to say that this what just mentioned on the Andrew Marr show during the newspaper article discussion.

I think it was The Times article. Isobel Oakshott (sic) was very sympathetic to people who are trans and said that, at a guess, the numbers wanting on an AWS would be small but they shouldn't be allowed to apply. The general feeling I got from that before Andrew Marr swiftly moved on was that this issue is not a good look for the Labour Party.

Butterymuffin · 28/01/2018 10:01

Good for David Davis (more things I never thought I'd say (I know it's the 'other one))

SisterNotCis · 28/01/2018 10:03

Watching Andrew Marr & almost wonder if JC understands self-ID. He plays it as empathy with someone who been through a huge trauma.

WouldntTouchItWithAShittyStick · 28/01/2018 10:03

AlabamaShakes
She wasn't against it she was very much it's "they a tiny minority and they put themselves through so much, so why not?"

Andrew Marr then went on to ask the conservative He was interviewing about the self identifying bill, and whether a man who hasn't had surgery, but says he identifies as woman is a woman? go Andrew! I wasn't listening fully but I'm sure he used himself as an example.

He has also just asked JC the same. JC said yes. But will talk to Linda Bellinham about her views and worries. Andrew Marr said but if you have already decided what's the point?.

AlabamaShakes · 28/01/2018 10:06

Ah I must've misheard her then. In my defence I was too busy reading these threads during that segment Grin

Good point Andrew Marr made. Why does JC want to talk if he's already made his mind up??

WouldntTouchItWithAShittyStick · 28/01/2018 10:12

Yes unfortunately she showed she didnt have a clue about what its all about, as she said something like, she had been watching itv transformation street, and believed no one would put themselves through that to get on a short list.

So completetly missing the point of self ID

TheNerevarine · 28/01/2018 10:15

Scrolling back through Twitter posts and saw this article shared. It's from October 2017, and is about the researcher whose work into detransitioning was blocked by Bath Spa University.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/01/2018 11:23

I discovered today that I've been blocked by a lot of LP members with whom I have never interacted (including a certain women's officer)
Interesting because in today’s Mail on Sunday, it states that Lily Madigan claims to be ‘only vaguely aware of a list’ . Hmm

BeatriceJoanna · 28/01/2018 11:52

TheNerevarine Perhaps you're right, I'm really still conflicted. However, after hearing Corbyn this morning, I'm not optimistic. He can't really back down now, can he? It seems a done deal as far as Labour is concerned despite the legal uncertainties.

Interesting because in today’s Mail on Sunday, it states that Lily Madigan claims to be ‘only vaguely aware of a list’ Just to clarify - (as far as I know) I'm not on the list. I just meant some kind of bot block list. It's really weird because tweets from people you've never heard of are suddenly showing as not available and when you click through you find you've been blocked.

This has only happened to me since I've been openly 'TERFy' on Twitter.

WouldntTouchItWithAShittyStick · 28/01/2018 12:01

I'm not on Twitter at all, but sometimes if I click a link to a tweet from here it tells me I'm not able to view this account or content. But if I Google the person I can find the tweet.Hmm
