Link here. All sorts of issues bound up in this, but it got a lot of traction on Irish Twitter last night.

One point it does make is that the equivalent of Gender Id has been the case in Ireland for a couple of years, and yet the sky hasn't fallen in for women. Is that the case? Can any one living in Ireland confirm that? I sort of think you're not comparing like with like when it comes to the trans community in Ireland and that in the U.K., but I'd be interested to hear other thoughts.

Keep up the delightful misogyny there, dear. We see you.

Maryz · 24/01/2018 18:52

Lots of times, actually Hmm.

Especially in medical settings. Where it does happen, and it is an issue.

Not to mention all-women shortlists, women only scholarships and women's sports.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/01/2018 19:00

There's something very masculine about marmalady's aggression.Hmm

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 24/01/2018 19:03

Thanks Soupy and hoping you are not calling me a vile Brit terf bitch

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 24/01/2018 19:06

And, ooops, he's protected his tweets

Seriously? Trans women are women.
if a man is pretending to be trans, he's not fucking trans. Duh.

How do I tell the difference? Which one can I safely challenge if he's in my space?
Which one can a Muslim women remove her hijab in front of?

Sure dude.

Xenophile · 24/01/2018 19:24

No one but trans whacktivists ever say they don't want trans people to exist or believe trans exist. It's such a complete straw man that I have to now assume you don't know shit about shit.

HairyBallTheorem · 24/01/2018 19:25

Of course trans people exist. Don't be bloody daft. No-one's questioning the existence of trans people. I may disagree over the ideological interpretation of what it is to be trans, in that I don't believe transwomen are literally, indistinguishably women.

What I do want is to make sure women don't find themselves in prison with male sex offenders (Paris Green), or confronted with a transwoman doing their cervical smear, or doing their rape kit after sexual assault, or finding themselves facing a 16 stone, 6'4" male bodied individual in the front row of the opposing team's scrum in a game of women's rugby.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 24/01/2018 19:26

Expecting a new name change Aoife anytime soon....

Maryz · 24/01/2018 19:29

I don't want them to not exist. That's ridiculous. I'm a supporter of trans rights, I just think that it would be helpful if transpeople took into consideration that women's rights have been hard fought for and that some (not all) transpeople are trampling all over them.

I'd also prefer them (and you) not to call me names (cis, terf) and I'd prefer if you (and they) would discuss things instead of threatening violence and claiming persecution.

But that seems too much to ask for.

UpstartCrow · 24/01/2018 20:08

MarmaladyLumps

You didnt answer my question about how this affects women such as Muslim women.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 24/01/2018 21:20

Why were so many posts deleted?

FlaviaAlbia · 24/01/2018 21:23

Lots of reports I suppose. That's only the second post I've ever had deleted

Bit of a pointless deletion though as it's been screenshotted on twitter Grin

NotTerfNorCis · 24/01/2018 21:24

Anything that named the fella. He's obviously been onto MN.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 24/01/2018 21:31

You have to admit it's class tactics. Get all your libfem pals up in arms about the 'imperialist' English bitches and make it all about the invasion of English TERFS.

And Irish feminism not being like that dontyaknow

And shove your Brexit up your arse too (because we must ALL support that too)

SaintEyning · 24/01/2018 21:35

If a woman can't SI and become a priest as specified in the legislation, is the reverse also true - can a man SI and become a nun?

Vicxy · 24/01/2018 23:04

Ah the bullshit about not wanting trans people to exist. I have literally only ever heard that said by transactivists. Arguing against something that 'terfs' never say in the first place. Why on earth would anyone want trans people not to exist? Its just silly.

InionEile · 25/01/2018 01:17

That's something I was wondering about too SaintEyning. As a girl growing up in Ireland, I always wanted to be a priest and was pissed off that girls weren't welcome in the Church except as nuns. I wonder if this gender self-identification business cuts the mustard with the Church.... maybe I can finally realize my childhood dreams... Grin

I am guessing the Catholic Church stood firm on getting that one excluded from the legislation though, just as the UK GRA bill as currently drafted excludes transgender FTM daughters from claiming hereditary titles.

Evidence again, as if more were needed, that this gender SI stuff is all about expanding male rights to encroach on women's spaces and reducing the rights we had to fight for and continuing to protect male privilege and power.

InionEile · 25/01/2018 01:17

'*while continuing to protect male privilege'... that should read

MmmmmmBop · 25/01/2018 02:46

There is a public consultation underway in Ireland on the 'Gender Recognition Act', on issues including provisions for children aged 16 and 17, for those under 16, and provision for 'nonbinary' identities. TENI (Trans Equality Network Ireland) are on the advisory committee.

Submissions can be made by email before 5th February to [email protected] with 'Submission' as the subject line.

One thing I learned from reading up on the current legislation is that in order to get a GRC in Ireland one cannot currently be married or in a civil partnership.

How does the 'Rose of Tralee' pageant get to opt out of allowing TIMs from entering?
