Letter from Irish feminists to British "Terfs"

Link here. All sorts of issues bound up in this, but it got a lot of traction on Irish Twitter last night.

One point it does make is that the equivalent of Gender Id has been the case in Ireland for a couple of years, and yet the sky hasn't fallen in for women. Is that the case? Can any one living in Ireland confirm that? I sort of think you're not comparing like with like when it comes to the trans community in Ireland and that in the U.K., but I'd be interested to hear other thoughts.

Indeed what a surprise.

And now we have the brave Irish feminists going all GPO on the 'English' feminists.

Ooo- Ah Up the 'RA. Nice touch.

It was organised by one woman. Good that relations between Ireland and England can be trashed by one upstart

FlaviaAlbia · 24/01/2018 16:52

Actually, I've never heard of them before, I was just working on the assumption a TIM was involved and plastering a feminism label on their views!

Just has a look at the twitter chat surrounding this. It's just pretty much a rant of fuck you English women, we Irish are better than that.

Which pretty much looks like bog standard racism to me.

Nice

MarmaladyLumps · 24/01/2018 18:21

Solidarity with any trans ppl who have to put up with this bullshit. ✌️✊

SoupyNorman · 24/01/2018 18:22

Cop on and let ppl who aren't bothering you, just live their lives.

What if we are bothered by male bodies in female spaces? Then are we allowed raise concerns?

Marmalady, what is a woman?

Can you give me a definition of what a woman is in relation to women's spaces and women's sports?

I'm not transphobic, I have no issue with transpeople living their lives however they wish, wearing whatever clothes they like. I do have an issue with men insisting they are women and demanding that they have access to safe spaces such as refuges and support groups where vulnerable women may want to get away from men.

I also have an issue with teenagers being allowed to take drugs that will make them infertile.

Do you have an opinion on any of these issues, or are you just going to shout insults at everyone?

SoupyNorman · 24/01/2018 18:29

Nice misogynistic language btw.

Can't let a few Mickies get in the way of international virtue now can they?

The Terfs will be coming up the Liffey in their dingies and and carting the transwomen off to Kilmainham

Maryz · 24/01/2018 18:31

Oh, and could your definition of "woman" include transwomen, but exclude men, especially "creep men" please.

Because as far as I can see any creep man can declare he is a woman and you will automatically believe him. So it would be helpful if you could define the difference. And explain to me how you know the difference, by a glance, between a trans and a not fucking trans person. Thanks.

ATeardropExplodes · 24/01/2018 18:36

Newsflash: if a man is pretending to be trans, he's not fucking trans. Duh

Yes that is what we are saying. Doh!

It's great isn't it? You have to have trans people in your female spaces and if you are subject to voyeurism or assaulted, hey presto, that wasn't a trans person at all!

It's a neat way to incorporate into the definition of trans "the absolute inability to to do anything wrong".

NotTerfNorCis · 24/01/2018 18:42

I've just been reading an Irish republican feminist called flyingteacosy on Twitter. Mind bending stuff. I'd love to have a debate with her if just to ask - if gender is a social construct (as she admits) how can someone be born the wrong social construct?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 24/01/2018 18:45

Oh look, another one who comes in, throws insults and then shalimars

Because they cannot defend the bollocks they insist everyone else believe

Quelle surprise.

What's that in the Gaelic now?

HairyBallTheorem · 24/01/2018 18:45

So... biology doesn't make people men or women, an internal sense of gender identity does. But (since I am not a mind reader) the only way I can tell what gender someone is, is to ask them. But now you concede some people lie about that.

So how on earth am I meant to tell?

Can't go off their adam's apple.
Can't read their minds.
Can't automatically believe they're telling the truth.

How. Do. I. Tell?

Why not teach us, Marmalady?

Show us how you know who is genuine trans and who is not. Show us how to define "woman" in such a way as to include trans women but exclude men.

Debate this, ffs, you can't convince people by shouting insults at them.
