AIBU GoFundMe addiction

I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

I actually think that this argument isn't mainstream though. Conversations are being closed down before they reach the mainstream because it's being denounced as bigotry and then that's all people hear and they don't want to voice their own opinions if they've read over and over that it's bigoted.

So then to read that while nodding my head and then see arguments being put in an inflammatory and crude way feels a bit like it's going to be put down as bigotry again.

That's not the author's fault. She's doing her bit and more. But I feel like this won't go anywhere now.

What exactly is the money for? Is there a firm plan for how to spend it?

It's extremely satisfying watching the total go up (I probably gave a bit more than we can afford at the moment, but I don't care. I've felt so powerless that the thought of finally being able to help secure dd's future in some way has made me very happy)

They want to use it to take legal action against the labour party for allowing males without GRCs to take places on all women shortlists.

Any left over money they want to fight the GRA.

They want to involve donators as much as possible in decisions on how to spend, such as by using polls, and and will be transparent about what they spend the money on, posting receipts on the page.

Just been reading a reddit thread about this. Seems the majority of posters are under the impression this is about transwomen with GRCs (though personally I feel even those with GRCs should not be on all female shortlists either, but this seems to be about self-ID). Depressingly high amount of posters seem to hate feminism with a passion too

I really wish whoever that was had brought up the point about how 'self-defining woman' excludes non-binary female people. I knw they did mention women who identify as men, but non-binary seems to be the buzzword at the moment. And there are certainly more 'non-binary' people than there are transmen. Given near every person in the country is actually non-binary, and more and more are waking up to this.

It's unfortunate that only the Daily Fail are seeing this for the madness it is. I don't think the Grauniad will ever catch up.

Vicxy and the whole thing excludes women who don't "self identify as a woman" who just are women as default. I am a woman who totally rejects self-determining your own sex. I would be excluded. This point was not mentioned either.

On the topic of 'women don't have dicks' - yes, it's blunt and a bit crude, but it's also not open to misinterpretation. Something I learnt in the time I spent posting on Twitter trying to have polite discussions with the supporters of trans ideology is that everything you say will be twisted and used against you.

Mention that women have wombs? Then people who have had hysterectomies aren't women, and also you're reducing women to baby-making machines, you regressive conservative.

Women have vaginas/vulvas? A neo-vagina is absolutely identical in every way so transwomen are women. Also what about women with birth defects, aren't they women?

XX Chromosomes - massive derail about intersex people and how they mean biological sex isn't binary.

It happens every time. The worst I had was a long debate where I thought we were understanding each other's point of view and then the transactivist summarised my position as 'so, you think there are only two genders but don't agree with self-identification - that must mean you agree with traditional gender roles.' After I had very painstakingly detailed the difference between sex and gender and the GC position. I don't believe in gender at all! Either they're trolling, or they have an idea in their minds of 'what a TERF believes' and use that instead of what you're actually telling them.

It's relentless. And that is why people resort to statements like 'women don't have dicks,' because it's inarguably true. There are no marginal cases of bepenised women, and the transwomen who claim that their penises are female clearly don't suffer from dysphoria and are extremists.

Hm, there's an awful lot of liberal brogressive men that feel obligated to comment on the gofundme page about how dreadful us women are for supporting this campaign. Why the heck does gofundme allow comments from people if they're not donating?

On twitter I often resort to "look if they dig your bones up in 100 years your DNA would show you are male. Push the boundary of what is it to be male instead"

"Women don't have dicks" is actually sounding more agreeable than all the other million descriptors of "woman" you could come up with.
Although Germane Greer would add "A woman is not just a man without a dick"

Just the other day I had a brief go at Terfness on Facebook and got an eye roll inducing reply to my comment about humans are either male or female...

They didn't type anything other than a Wikipedia link to "intersex". Like that proves all Trans ideology as fact... still annoyed.

If there has suddenly been a mahoosive explosion of intersex humans, wouldn't there be some sort of medical research/crisis about why?

I hate seeing intersex conditions appropriated to bolster trans arguments...not only is it disrespectful to actual intersexed people, but it also doesn't make any sense in a trans context. The existence of the colour green doesn't mean that blue and yellow as separate categories of colour don't exist anymore. I don't see that some rare genetic outliers somehow 'disprove' biological sex.

I know the gofund me account is being reported repeatedly so I have messaged them politely explaining why it's a concern. (don't use the report function like we do on MN as so many reports might actually trigger it to be suspended). Try and be brief and explain how many people are actually gay, lesbian and bi behind this campaign, not to mention mostly all lefties. It's easy to mislead and tell people this is about hating LGBT when if they paid attention they'd see it is actually clearly is being lead by lgb people.
