I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

Barracker, I think it can already be demonstrated in the way that "transwoman" is thought of as a category of woman, which then leads to "okay, well we're biologically female" and "well we're biologically female too"...

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 12:54

AllMy, all of my best friends are metal heads too Grin

BarrackerBarmer · 18/01/2018 13:00

Exactly. We're the target, no matter what word we come up with for ourselves.

Its naive to think that we could cede this particular word and the outcome would be "ta very much, feel free to distinguish yourselves using a different word and talk about all the ways you are not the same as us now"

(Although I do think several times a day about exasperatedly letting them have it and retiring to Mars.)

Their game is to prevent us from distinguishing ourselves, from pointing out what we actually are.

Our job is to keep factually demonstrating how we are not the same as transwomen. Over and over.

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 13:02

Count me in for that mars colony!

Serial123 · 18/01/2018 13:06

Just seen this, it's amazing. 970 people!

busyboysmum · 18/01/2018 13:10

Forget Mars - can't we have a nice little Mediterranean island instead? Set up our own lovely community there....

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 13:11

I'd agree with a post I saw on this board a few days/weeks ago that suggested that gender non-conformity be a protected characteristic rather than gender identity, in a similar way to how being part of a subculture is protected as a result of work done by the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

That would cover trans-men and trans-women, as well as non-binary and agender people, drag queens as well as any woman or man who 'presents' in a way not usually associated with their sex but who doesn't identify as trans or as any other gender and those of us who believe gender to be a load of shit.

Definitely agree with this.

On TRAs managing to own the word woman...they will never be happy as we will always need a word for adult human females, so whatever adult human females call themselves, TRAs will want that word. So it will go on forever.

Datun · 18/01/2018 13:21

BarrackerBarmer

Brilliant rhyme.

And spot on analysis.

We may as well keep woman because they will want the next name too. And the next.

Hence the desperate blurring of its biological characteristics. To strip it of meaning.

Chest feeding instead of breast.

Pregnant person

Parent not mother.

The 'cis privilege' of abortion and miscarriage to not be spoken about.

Lesbianism doesn't exist.

And, of course, the converse of lady penis. And transwomen being as likely to get pregnant as any other woman who isn't currently ovulating.

So yeah, I'm keeping the word woman as adult human female. Not delusional misogynist.

EpicBellend · 18/01/2018 13:22

We need to call ourselves uterus-bearers so that they need to chant ‘trans women are uterus-bearers’ and see if that sets any bells ringing with the brocialists - evidently ‘woman’ is not womby enough to give pause.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 13:46

Bellend - if you mention uteruses they harp on about excluding women who've had hysterectomies. Honestly it's painful watching them argue.

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 13:51

Ah yes, those women who probably argued for years for their hysterectomies, and only a lucky few get them when they need them -most get the pat-on-the-lady-head, there-there, now go away dear...

Took me five years to get my (relatively easy in comparison) prolapse repair. And trans people complain that they have to wait for surgery Hmm ...welcome to "being a woman" Hmm

BlindYeo · 18/01/2018 13:52

And you'd get Lily Madigan types going on about being only a step away from having a surgically implanted uterus so that's basically the same as having one blah blah

BlindYeo · 18/01/2018 13:52

Great poem barracker

Yup.

Any reference to actual female biology draws cries of 'some women are born without vaginas' 'what about people who have had their wombs removed, are they not women?! Haha, I caught you out' kind of rubbish.

The only thing we could possibly call ourselves to stave off all this rubbish is...adult human females.'Transwomen are adult human females' doesn't have much of a ring to it does it? Grin Though tbh, the word woman already means adult human female anyway and they still try to take it. Sigh

Soubriquet · 18/01/2018 13:59

Fantastic poem. Really sums it all up

The names are really cheering me up.
Without creating a victim or harming anyone else, women have used humour to expose how ludicrous this is.

Reddit men could learn something from that.

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 14:54

Another jump £16,535

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 15:02

Jolyon Maugham has supported and retweeted this. This is great news IMO!

Redonionricedpotato · 18/01/2018 15:06

Wow, I wonder if Jolyon can put Jennifer and the others on to someone who'd do this pro bono!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 18/01/2018 15:10

Brilliant poem, Barracker!

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 15:15

He's donated £100 but his retweet of the campaign is what's more valuable. He has a large follower base and is well respected.

Datun · 18/01/2018 15:16

Can anyone who is in twitter go and support Jolyon Maugham on his post?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 15:20

I have just thanked him for his support

Datun · 18/01/2018 15:21

Well done girl.

Thank you.
