I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

I've just thanked him for his support. It was one of the first replies and the response was mixed at that point.

gunsandbanjos · 18/01/2018 15:26

I’ve just thanked him too, not sure he’ll see it though through the wave of transwomen are women drivel that’s being flung around.

explodingkittens · 18/01/2018 15:30

Great poem @Barracker.

Really pleased to see Jolyon Maugham retweeting and supporting. Of course, the irony is that a white male QC tweeting in support of this campaign will make far more people sit up and think than a bunch of terfy cuntywomen have, but hey ho...all support is welcome!

Labour have changed their stance on self identity?!

explodingkittens · 18/01/2018 15:38

And...he's getting an absolute battering.

Mainly from men.

Who see no issue in telling him that it's nothing to do with him, whilst simultaneously yelling 'transwomen are women, you transphobe'. You seriously can't make this shit up.

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 15:38

Now we need to clear up the position regarding women's officers and women's delegate places.

Surely, if its the case for AWS then it should be the case across the board that self ID is no good and the people have to have GRCs? Goodbye Lily Madigan in a position that specifies that it has to be a woman?

Guessing Labour took legal advise and were told that they would lose.

Datun · 18/01/2018 15:40

Vicxy

Yes! Or rather they are abiding by the law. Such a low bar.

Geronimoleapinglizards · 18/01/2018 15:44

Really glad about JM. Although it is so thoroughly depressing to see how many women are tweeting 'transwomen are women' at him.'

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 15:44

Woman's officer job description states they must be a woman...

JaimesGoldenHand · 18/01/2018 15:55

Have you seen the latest update. Seems like great news, although I agree that the hatred from the TRAs has made me question even how GRCs can work as they currently do. However, that represents the current legal position so the LP ruling seems like a good outcome.

Vicxy · 18/01/2018 15:59

GRCs may be totally useless soon too. If TRAs get their way and anyone who self-IDs can get one Angry

MorrisZapp · 18/01/2018 15:59

Woop woop!

Get the kettle on, Lurchio

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 16:01

Yeah it's only a partial victory as they still want people to be able to get a GRC from filling in a form...

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 16:01

(Which would then again make any random bloke eligible)

MorrisZapp · 18/01/2018 16:02

Who do? Labour?

HemlockSpartacus · 18/01/2018 16:03

Great news, now I guess it's about ensuring the GRC isn't down to self ID

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 16:03

Afaik. Cross party support for the GRA amendment

LangCleg · 18/01/2018 16:06

Jolyon Maugham has taken so much shit over Brexit, he won't back down because he's been shouted at on Twitter. If anything, it'll demonstrate to him that he's taken the right decision on behalf of women and fighting back against their silencing and erasure by transactivism.

Glitterypinksoap · 18/01/2018 16:07

Bravo Jennifer!!!! And every other extremely brave woman who put their name to this campaign.

EamonnWright · 18/01/2018 16:11

Maugham will relish a fight like this.

add gender identity as a protected characteristic into the Equality act?

Err, how? It reifies 'gender' as an innate thing, rather than as a social construct enacted to oppress women.

I don't have a "gender identity". I'm female, and I conform to some of the gendered behaviours & attitudes that I was socialised into, but I am more often than not in conflict with the gender role required of women - and have been since I was about 12, actually.

I guess you (we) could call ourselves gender atheists?
