I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

Dick his boat Grin

I'm blocked from a lot of TRAs twitters, terf blocker list I suppose.

But I'm on the left of the Labour Party and I desperately wanted some movement away from the market fundamentalism of the Blair years. Now we have it, I can't support it because it's hurtling towards the dismantling of all women's rights. So bloody dispiriting.

This is exactly where I am. I've hung in there all my adult life hoping for a move to the left. But the way things have gone I've been very close to cancelling my membership the last couple of months - something I never seriously considered before. If this attempt to halt the madness fails or gets shut down I will be done with Labour.

But then who the hell do I vote for?

Mner · 15/01/2018 14:03

£12.2k! It's absolutely amazing watching this go up... and up...

Empress, that Not Right Ruth twitter is hilarious. Whinging on about how we have too much money we shouldn't have, telling us to donate it to awful trans propaganda organisations like Action for Trans Health or Gendered Intelligence instead. Yeah mate, don't think so! And the cherry on the top is the person who set up the crowdfunder so that fabulous "trans feminine" people like Travis Alabanza can get taxis is dolefully exclaiming that their gofundme ends in a day and they haven't reached their target, obviously jealous of this money feminists have raised. We're never going to donate to pay for Travis's taxis, get over it!

Glittery - "they keep terfing even after they were told not to"

Imagine, the sheer cheek of it! I've donated, it's just marvellous to see some legal action proposed.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2018 14:35

"they keep terfing even after they were told not to"

I'm laughing so hard at my desk reading this that someone's going to ask me what the joke is in a minute. Women disobeying the men! How dare they!!!!!!!!!!

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 14:41

Have the journalist Kevin O'Sullivan saying live and let live under the Wright Stuff Twitter. I said it's live and let live untill a straight guy knocks a trans back then he's a bigot (It's about IW) He said it depends on the reason he knocked back Hmm

So I've said because IW was born a man (madness I even have to say) and that it's no better than correction therapy. Told him to Google cotton ceiling and that young lesbians are being bullied. He likely won't respond again but if it plants a seed it's better than a kick to the stones.

Gingernaut · 15/01/2018 14:42

Wasn't there an academic who was also trying to raise money for a cause?

He was censured (possibly even fired?) for even mentioning detransitioning. He was trying to raise funding for a legal action against someone (his university?)

Have I remembered that correctly?

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 14:44

Bath Uni, Gingernaut?

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 14:49

Eamonn, send this - medium.com/@LogicalMarcus/is-julia-serano-right-that-transwomen-are-female-a989dca9d026

It was linked in a different thread earlier. Can't believe I'd never read it (I even follow the writer on twitter and I'd missed it!)

ReefAndRiz · 15/01/2018 15:07

A thought I had about the "trans women are women" crowd, is they are probably the type that do as they are told and order others to do as told. They are cross at us, because we aren't doing as told. We have stopped listening to the Guardian, we have left Labour, we won't chant, we will fight for what we believe in against adversity. I guess there is an element of jealousy as much as anger at us not following the crowd, they try to bully and sham us, physical violence has been used, all kinds of threats made and carried out, yet we carry on.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2018 15:16

They're going on about how much money we're wasting. But looking at the figures, people are donating an average of £17.50. It's not about a people with a lot of money. It's about loads of people giving a bit of money. Which, if I was the TRAs or the Labour Party, I'd probably find a lot more worrying.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 15/01/2018 15:24

I'm blocked by the ruth account. Can someone give me another account in the thread?

SonicBoomBoom · 15/01/2018 15:30

Yes Ginger, you're right. His name escapes me though.

Glitterypinksoap · 15/01/2018 15:31

The inability to recognise that this is not rich people, and that this represents strength of feeling - and this may be an issue they need to face up to - just completely bypasses them. Unfortunately it just showcases over again the lack of emotional maturity going on behind the TRA thinking, and the assumption that biological women are basically 'Mum' to their endless Peter Pan Child. Nag and shout and stamp and however you treat her she'll still always put you first no matter how you behave.

Which is a keystone of misogyny. People with vaginas must always put other people first and themselves last without complaint. (And are jolly naughty girls if they don't.) You can see handmaidens of that belief on AIBU and the relationship board on a daily basis.

Mner · 15/01/2018 15:33

The psychotherapist who's research on detransitioning was vetoed by Bath talked at this meeting here and has a useful insight on it.

LangCleg · 15/01/2018 15:42

"they keep terfing even after they were told not to"

I'm so stealing that!

The thing with Twitter is that ALL the TRAs in the bloody country are on it but only a tiny % of the country is on it with any regularity, and most of those are talking about football, the latest boy band or posting cat gifs. It's not an accurate picture of the country.

The whataboutery of FOODBANKS! REFUGES! UNIVERSAL CREDIT! is also doing my head in. Like, yes dears, we know. The things that affect mostly women, of the biological kind. Which is why it's important to be able to measure women, of the biological kind. So that we can provide services.

I bet you for every penny any one of them has donated or every minute any one of them has volunteered, most of the people contributing have already donated a pound and volunteered for an hour. They're horrible little entitled bourgeois, the lot of them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/01/2018 15:59

I wish we could all have our names there but I'm a scaredy anon as well. I saw Miranda though!

Glitterypinksoap · 15/01/2018 16:06

The whataboutery of FOODBANKS! REFUGES! UNIVERSAL CREDIT! is also doing my head in.

Yes. It's the 21 century version of 'your poor husband coming home to his dinner ready for him on the table while you faff about with politics' that the suffragettes had to deal with. It also completely misses the point that foodbanks, refuges and child poverty are very much biological womens' issues, and would be less of a problem if society was less patriarchial with more women involvement in politics. Removing political seats from biological women does not in any way increase that aim! Madigan isn't going to give a crap about how many single mothers and their kids are living on the poverty line, or needing a refuge space because her partner tried to strangle her last night, or that her partner can waltz away and fudge the CSA while refusing to sell the family home so she's raising three kids alone with nothing, or that her earning potential is now zero because she took eight years out of her career to have those kids and now can't afford childcare. Madigan would joyfully tell you it was cis sexist to say those issues have anything to do with being a woman.

This is basically saying it's little biological women problems, only fit for little biological women to deal with.

BlackBetha · 15/01/2018 16:20

The "what about food banks" etc is hypocrisy, unless the people saying it have never spent even £10 of their own disposable income on something other than feeding the poor and hungry. And of course giving to one cause doesn't mean someone doesn't also support another one.

I donated anonymously yesterday, although I'm not a Labour supporter (not sure I'm even in favour of women-only shortlists, but if we're going to have them, they should be for actual women!). Either way, it's important to legally challenge the nonsense of 'self-identification', and this is as good a test case as any.

Astonishing to see how much they've raised in just over a day - especially as it's not big donors giving thousands each, but ordinary women contributing what they can. There's real grassroots support for pushing back against the trans bullies.

I shared on FB, the first time I’ve dared. Mixed responses, heartened by some.
