I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

Love that gif.
The argument Transwomen are women- fact. is nonsensical.

I am tempted to comment Transwomen are not women - fact.

I have a lot more evidence for my fact. Maybe I’ll look up definitions for fact but I know these people aren’t listening

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 15/01/2018 11:55

Glittery
Brilliant analysis and I totally agree.

Momentum are one of the most regressive movements I have seen for a while. They are as bad as the Militant tendency back in the day, when the Labour party was overrun with Trots. The debates, if you can call them that, that I have with many Momentum members over twitter have mainly consisted in them calling me a bigot, while I try to put my case, more charges of being sub human etc and ending with them blocking me

ReefAndRiz · 15/01/2018 12:04

I didn't quite catch the Daily politics opening, did they say they are covering this?

hackmum · 15/01/2018 12:08

I worry about Momentum too. I find them quite chilling. I'm old enough to remember Militant Tendency and in a way they were almost sweet - they were so utterly transparent. There's something about Momentum that strikes me as better organised and more sophisticated. Maybe it's just that they've infiltrated into the upper reaches of the Labour Party, which Militant never did.

I know this has been said many many times before but the mantra that "Transwomen are women" is utterly Orwellian. It's like "Ignorance is strength". It's a mantra that is just repeated over and over without any thought at all. If you ask them to define a woman, or explain what is meant by "Transwomen are women", they can't. What I find frightening is that it's not being repeated by people who are at the bottom of the educational heap but by people who have degrees and stuff - people you might expect to be able to apply a bit of critical thought.

It's so annoying. The hard left have always had a massive problem with misogyny. But I'm on the left of the Labour Party and I desperately wanted some movement away from the market fundamentalism of the Blair years. Now we have it, I can't support it because it's hurtling towards the dismantling of all women's rights. So bloody dispiriting.

Natsku · 15/01/2018 12:13

Not getting paid until the end of the month so think I might just chuck a fiver in today and then a bit more at the end of the month. Will put my real name as I'm not fussed about hate messages or getting doxxed - not much they can do to me in Finland! I probably won't even be able to vote at the next general election (time limit for living abroad) so this is one of the few things I can do for UK politics.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2018 12:31

Nearly at £12,000 and still trending.

I've just been reading the furious TRA threads on Twitter Grin

GuardianLions · 15/01/2018 12:34

could you link one or two Empress?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2018 12:40

twitter.com/NotRightRuth/status/952304282186997760

twitter.com/eve_rebecca/status/952239185053863937

I won't post the link to the taxis for trans crowdfunder for obvious reasons. I'll just say that it ends today and has raised just over £2,000.

anonymice · 15/01/2018 12:46

I have just made a donation to this. I love the assumptions on Twitter that all the donors are rolling in money and white middle class privilege. Also that the donors do not donate to other causes....

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2018 12:51

I've just made a second donation. I think all the whatabouters should be listing the causes they donate to, to set an example.

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 12:55

...aaaaaand it's gone over £12,000!!! ❤️❤️❤️

GuardianLions · 15/01/2018 12:59

thanks empress

FundayMorning · 15/01/2018 13:15

Who is Eve Livingston? Are they trans? So much to say on the issue!

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 13:17

It's like you can only donate to one thing at a time. Some of these guys are about as bright as a black out.

It's like an addiction, watching the rage going up as the money does. It's going to leave me potless.

Akire · 15/01/2018 13:17

IM Disabled and on benefits and donated. This sort thing has so many impacts. For example right now I get personal care from agency woman do women , men do men. At least at moment if you have gone through formal process and lived as a woman and got new regonition status (cant remember exactly what it’s called) so theory I could still have a Trans carer but least some sort work on their part and have to least try and look as if pass as female.

If it goes through with self Identify then agency and like will have employ anyone who says I am a different Sex. If you are young able bodied and think great it’s fabulous. Think how your 90y old granny feel when bloke turns up to change her and if she or Agency complain you are TERF and bigot. All we are asking for is some sort of exclusions in some areas. If your granny would be fine with it great. If she’s not then why not have some exclusions and opts our in the very small areas of work or care where others would feel stressed about it. To bring it all in, in one fail swoop is huge.

Redonionricedpotato · 15/01/2018 13:22

I just looked at Twitter - lots of rage about bigots defrauding bigots Smile

MiMi78 · 15/01/2018 13:27

Has anyone else been mostly blocked on Twitter by trans activist accounts?? Grin
I'm blocked by Lily, Ruth and the like. All for saying I supported women standing up for women's short lists Confused

titchy · 15/01/2018 13:29

I agree.... next I want to see the country music awards... include hip-hop artists because they are people too and sing with instruments in hand....

Love those tweets!

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 13:30

I was told to find a thick rope and I know what to do. Did he want me to help dick his boat Hmm

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/01/2018 13:30

I hope people will feel able to donate small amounts. Imo the number of donors is very persuasive - it would be amazing if it passed 1000, so I hope if someone can only afford, say, £2 they will still do it.

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 13:30

Dock, I meant dock Confused

gunsandbanjos · 15/01/2018 13:37

I donated, glad to see the total steadily climbing.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 15/01/2018 13:41

MiMi

You will be on a TERF list. Congratulations!

They do set a low bar to be fair. You are in the company of Martina Navratalova and other fine people

Daffodil397 · 15/01/2018 13:59

Pricklyball love that link to Dave Chapelle! (page 12)
Putting the point across that there is something of white privilege in the TRA movement as well as male privilege.
Paraphrasing a bit but
‘How come it was easier for Bruce Jenner to transition to a woman than Cassius Clay to change his F name’!!
(Sorry I know it’s un mumsnetty to blank out the words but that’s just me!)
